why are some people so envious , it is his money and in a free society he can buy as many bananas or guitars as he wishes, he is taking a very good care of these fabulous instruments and even shares them with the public, thank you Mr. Gere
"Every guitar you pickup makes you wanna play differently." - Richard Gere. It's amazing how true that statement is.
Take away the fact that Richard Gere is a rich actor: who paid his dues getting there. He is a person with a passion for music. He was fortunate to be able to have a beautiful collection like this that he shared.
To all of you who are saying that you hate him because he spent his money on guitars, grow up. If someone earns a lot of money, then after tax they can do whatever the hell they want to with it. You want a room of guitars? Go out and work hard for it...
Thank you Mr. Gere for sharing this with us. I applaud you for your collection and it shows a side of you that is sensible, responsible and with depth.
Wow, never figured him for a guitar collector......Good man!
G.E. Smith barely speaks but when he does... "there is no right (or wrong) on a guitar" gotta love the man
My personal opinion of Richard Gere just increased by 98%
The other guy is GE Smith, an absolute legend. Richard may be a good player but GE is a great player. Deferring to someone like GE is pretty cool of him, shows that Richard isn't an ego maniac.
Richard Gere is such a gentle soulman !
Kudos to Richard for having a great collection. And it's awesome to see the great G.E. Smith plucking away.
When I was a kid, the Sears catalog had a Silvertone f-hole acoustic guitar with case for about $40. When I ask my dad if I could get it, he said we'll get you a "good" guitar. So he took me to Yeager's on Eastern Ave. The salesman took us upstairs to the stock room and sold my dad the worst POS guitar you could imagine. I eventually got the Silvertone which I loved. Fast forward a number of years, decided to give the Silvertone to my young kids. They destroyed it in about two days. Lesson learned: if you want to give your child one of your nice old guitars, wait until he/she is about 60 years old.
That's a sick guitar collection. I had no idea Richard Gere even played guitar.
Great collection !!! Love it .
Gorgeous collection.
Great to listen to guitar lovers...much respect to Richard Gere and G E Smith
When they say "there is no right way to play guitar" I was at first thinking it was a bullshit statement. Of course there is a right way and a wrong way to play. I have had lessons at an early age and was all the time being corrected by my teacher. But as I grew older, I began to realize that as long as the notes come out and it sounds musical, he is right. There really is no wrong way to play. Like playing golf. If the ball goes far and straight, who cares what the swing looks like? Right?
I went to kindergarten through high school with his sister.
Did not know he played ... love the collection. and the piece, with GE was excellent.
Ever notice how all these very wealthy collectors says "the guitar spoke to me" so I aquired the piece. You never hear,"man that 78 Japanese LP Cortez copy spoke to me". That MIM Strat really sung so I knew I had to have it. I am torn betreen 2 emotion when watching these vids. On one hand its great the guitars are being preserved and one day after a long custody battle or reading of the will they will end up back in other's hands. But on the other its sad to see what is essentially a guitar graveyard where they spend their lives in the dark. I have around 50 and display as many as possible and try to play each at least a few times a year.
