I've played for 44 years. I have to agree with Gere, there's no perfect guitar. Guitars have personalities like people. They're flawed, but like people there's "something" to love in every one. Sometimes you have to look hard to see what that "something" is. Often the problem is mine, not the guitar's. I'll be forcing it to do what it wasn't meant to do. Like I'll be fed up with a guitar, then one day it dawns on me, set it up for slide. Only then will it share its sweet, soulful inner voice.

Whether he knows how to play or not , we all play differently , and as he says here there is no wrong or right way to play , but a guitar in its case wont play itself .

@gingerbeer9146 жыл бұрын
7:47-7:49 "The frets are on the right place... the intonation is right" IF there is an intonation problem, it's either a matter of filing the nut slots OR a matter of wrong bridge placement. I never heard of A-brand guitars with fretboards withwrongly placed frets. They simply followed the template, so they were always right. Gluing the bridge a the wrong spot is something that sometimes occurred, but before you start working on that, you should take a good look at the nut slots. Too high slots cause intonation problems too.
@snoo50
4 жыл бұрын
Not true... Even nowadays, now and again, I stumble across guitars with tuning issues, not because of setup, fret height or anything, but because of the POSITION of the fret slots. And yes, this includes Fenders, Gibsons and top brands. Never seen it on a PRS or EBMM, though.
@gingerbeer914
4 жыл бұрын
@@snoo50 That must be guitars from before the CNC era. kzread.info/dash/bejne/moapr5aTaNO3lqg.html I cannot imagine that Fender or Gibson would not use these (or better ones) today. If you program it right, you can't go wrong. Unless you start with a cracked fretboard like the one in the demo of course.

I wonder if any of those Martins ended up in Vince Gill’s collection.
I love it Richard says of the L O Gibson you definitely want to play it with a pick and play it hard GE picks it up and makes it sing finger picking style. LOL!
Hope I never become like him! I’m 65 and started taking lessons several years ago, I can read some music too. I got a Yamaha then a Tele but now I play a 12 string Martin which I play the most. It’s crazy to have that many guitars unless your a professional musician. Make some noise Mr Gere!
Great unique guitars !!! (but the strat one was with the pickup too high at the high E string) asHUasHUasHUa...
Wow
Owning a vintage guitar collection and not being able to actually play them is like a blind man with an art collection.
''Listen... just listen for a minute... the sustain listen to it''!
the reason everybody is so into the old guitars is because the wood has had time to settle and realize it's a guitar. guitars always sound better the older they get.
The guy playing the guitar is G.E. Smith... he played with Hall and Oates at their peak. He has a big endorsement deal with Fender; he's a big tele guy.
Flying V...Dave Davies.
the blonde haired guy is g.e smith a top guitarist used to play on the road with dylan
the licks around 8:15?
Ive had all the guitars a man could want , but a man can only play one at a time , i currently own five but none of mine are in its flight case and all are played at one stage in any given day and not stacked as high as the ceiling , millions of Dollars can buy any instrument , and still only one can be played by one man at once . Whether he knows how to play or not , we all play differently , and as he says here there is no wrong or right way to play , but a guitar in its case wont play itself .
Didn't know Gere was a guitar fioend..I have more respect for 'im now. Love GE's music and advise too. Old guys and old guitars.
good guy. must be a gibson fan
No burst???
FYI Mr Gere Firebirds were designed by same guy that designed Avanti cars
Thanks for sharing. dmitriyezh
GE Smith looks very Gentle
Nice videos. Gere should have played a guitar.
I’d of kept the old firebird and the black Gibson w the white pickguard behind gere
He bought these as an investor. More fun than mutual funds or stocks bonds I guess.
G.E.Smith is the man here, excellent guitarist

+Dennis Johnson (dwj) It's really Willem Dafoe.
I’ll show you my guitars but don’t ask me to play one
Damn, I could have bought that Martin for $62,500!
''Well dont look at it''!
Is that David Carradine?
at 6:00 he actually 'almost' played one .... geeeesh 'the frets are in the right place' wtf does that mean where else should they be ..... geeeesh I hope he gave one of the guitars to G.E. at 9:26 he almost played it again but just held it ...... geeesh
Richard Gere could play Roger Waters in a movie....He would just have to go a couple weeks without sleeping..

Not true... Even nowadays, now and again, I stumble across guitars with tuning issues, not because of setup, fret height or anything, but because of the POSITION of the fret slots. And yes, this includes Fenders, Gibsons and top brands. Never seen it on a PRS or EBMM, though.

@@snoo50 That must be guitars from before the CNC era. kzread.info/dash/bejne/moapr5aTaNO3lqg.html I cannot imagine that Fender or Gibson would not use these (or better ones) today. If you program it right, you can't go wrong. Unless you start with a cracked fretboard like the one in the demo of course.
actually its not Dafoe..it is definitely that actor that played the joker...yeah thats def him
Kinda weird that RG doesn’t play at all.....I assume he can
gotta think about Johnny Winter when you see that Firebird.

Don't think he was selling them- wasn't it just an exhibition, to get them out of their cases?
GE Smith plays now with Roger Waters. Wonder if he was thinking "damn, they look the same!".

AWESOME !!! 😅🎈😅🎈😅🎈😅🎈😅🎈😅🎈😅🎈😅🎈😅
Looks like he's the guy who buys all the guitars. From guitar of the day (norms rare guitars). Every day mark says something like. That 0-18 from Friday. It's gone. Mark should be saying. That 0-18. Richard gere bought it.
Richard Gere is like a friend of mine. He spends millions on these guitars for others to play. In case he does the same with women, which I believe he does... Wassup Richie, wanna be my friend?
