    I'm impressed with the aptitude and understanding ear for the voice of the instrument Mr. Gere has. Very rare in the sales force today. Folks seem to be in such a hurry nowadays, there's no time to let the guitar speak. I want the new Ibanez RC365H but will not buy one until I hear it. Very well filmed interview. ..very glad I found them...my compliments. ..WELL DONE!

    GREAT collection...Richard's got great taste! Hope that he is still at it... The L-4 looks suspiciously like the one that passed through my hands around 5 years before this video was made...The tone was smallish, and flatter than a pancake, UNTIL you started fingerpicking old blues on it- and it would come to life Lol!

    If it wasn't for "rich collectors" we wouldn't today be able to see da Vinci's "Mona Lisa" or Botticelli's "Venus". When I saw "Venus", I was struck by the thought that for all the centuries since it was created, there had always been at some time, a person who valued it enough to look after it.

    Yeah, he's like family now... It justifies my own guitar addiction. It helps when your wife is complaining about you having too many guitars... I just say: "Just look at Richard Gere's collection... and what he sold it for..." Then she "knows" I'm doing the right thing, which I already knew of course ;) Another thing: my stocks gave me lots of stress, but my guitars don't. Besides, money is very boring too.... they're all the same pieces of paper with different serial numbers on them and they all sound the same unless you wet them... seriously... I find money so boring that I keep trading it for food and stuff...

    Wow,,, just a non-exclamatory wow. Every guitar has its own song and story. I love listening to the story being told while that guitar is singing its song. Tks for letting us have a look and listen. There's nothing we can take away from you this way. 😉 Really would be nice to see another story telling session. Hope you can let some of the others have their moment. One last question. Are you bringing into your collection the recent guitar makers such as Mr. Paul Reed Smith, and the fine, individually handcrafted classical guitars by luthiers of today? Tks again. This was nice..

    Honestly, one of the best playing modern 'Stratocasters' I've ever played was a Squire that a luthier friend of mine Jon Holland reworked just to prove a point to potential customers. Here was a $75.00 reject that played better than a $1000.00 guitar. If he were to install his hand wound pickups the sound would have been equally up there as well. (allowing for the lesser quality wood and hardware) Still, you get my point. GE Smith playing the guitars, yeah, I get YOUR point. Richard was in awe.

    I've played for 44 years. I have to agree with Gere, there's no perfect guitar. Guitars have personalities like people. They're flawed, but like people there's "something" to love in every one. Sometimes you have to look hard to see what that "something" is. Often the problem is mine, not the guitar's. I'll be forcing it to do what it wasn't meant to do. Like I'll be fed up with a guitar, then one day it dawns on me, set it up for slide. Only then will it share its sweet, soulful inner voice.

    Ive had all the guitars a man could want , but a man can only play one at a time , i currently own five but none of mine are in its flight case and all are played at one stage in any given day and not stacked as high as the ceiling , millions of Dollars can buy any instrument , and still only one can be played by one man at once . Whether he knows how to play or not , we all play differently , and as he says here there is no wrong or right way to play , but a guitar in its case wont play itself .

    7:47-7:49 "The frets are on the right place... the intonation is right" IF there is an intonation problem, it's either a matter of filing the nut slots OR a matter of wrong bridge placement. I never heard of A-brand guitars with fretboards withwrongly placed frets. They simply followed the template, so they were always right. Gluing the bridge a the wrong spot is something that sometimes occurred, but before you start working on that, you should take a good look at the nut slots. Too high slots cause intonation problems too.

  • @snoo50

    Not true... Even nowadays, now and again, I stumble across guitars with tuning issues, not because of setup, fret height or anything, but because of the POSITION of the fret slots. And yes, this includes Fenders, Gibsons and top brands. Never seen it on a PRS or EBMM, though.

  • @gingerbeer914

    @gingerbeer914

    @@snoo50 That must be guitars from before the CNC era. kzread.info/dash/bejne/moapr5aTaNO3lqg.html I cannot imagine that Fender or Gibson would not use these (or better ones) today. If you program it right, you can't go wrong. Unless you start with a cracked fretboard like the one in the demo of course.
