Analytics are good for a 162 game season, but throw it all out the window in the playoffs. Different sample set. Also - while McCormick's catch was pretty, the game saver was Mancini with 2 outs in the 8th. That ball gets by Trey, and it's extra bases and two runs score. That was clutch!!!

The thing is, numbers don't lie -it takes the heart and soul out of the game but nobody can argue that trotting out a bullpen full of 100mph flamethrowers isn't a better option than letting a tiring pitcher stay out there. Same thing with stolen bases - unless you are successful stealing at a ridiculous rate (like 85%+) it is better to just stand there and wait for a home run than be aggressive. It HAS made the game one dimensional and boring, but it's also proven to work.

Verlander doesn't get as much flak as Kershaw because Verlander can still pitch in the ALDS and ALCS. But for some reason can't pitch in the World Series. Kershaw can't pitch in any round of the Playoffs well.

were the Cubs and Astros winning the World Series in 2016 & 2017 fluke wins? sadly, the Astros have lost two more WS since after they beat the Dodgers, they lost to NL East teams Nationals & Braves. Astros lost 3 world series at home, before beating the Dodgers they got swept by the White Sox, whom by the way had home field advantage, after beating the Dodgers, Astros had home field advantage. Go figure. It'll be a miracle if the Astros win the 2022 world series at home, otherwise, same crap as with 2019, go 3-2 in the WS after game 5, and then they lose yet again, in 7 games as they did in '19, this time to another NL East team, Phillies.

Since then, there's been one or two World Series game 7's with road team winning each of them.
Baker got lucky, and if he was really " Old School ", he'd have left Verlander in longer, he was only trying to get Verlander through the 5th to get him credit for the win, as is usually the case, there was nothing mind blowing or outstanding here
