Rice Husk usages in Gardening - Excellent Benefits to plants

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Rice husks.. a sustainable byproduct of Rice crop, these are easily available and are very economical.
Instead of discarding the rice husk we can use these in gardens thru several ways.
In this video I demonstrated the methods of making Carbonized Rice Husk (CRH), this is an excellent fertilizer and a soil conditioner.
Apart from CRH, rice husk can be used as an ingredient in Potting media and also as mulch in gardens.
Using rice husk in garden builds the soil by supplying organic manure and Organic carbon and also nutrients to the plants.
It's safe and its use is organic.
Happy Gardening.

    Sir, Apart from what has been said there is a major advantage of use of CRS in garden soil ie of adding practically indestructible soil organic matter (SOM). Normal SOM is from humus ie sourced from farm yard manure/green manure/compost/vermicompost etc. These are broken down rapidly by soil bacteria and are effectively finished in temperate regions in about 3 years. Under Indian temperatures SOM remains should reduce to near nothing in half that time. Charcoals like CRH last almost indefinitely. They will continue to provide cation and anion exchange ability in the soil as long as they are not physically burnt out. A high cation and anion exchange capacity is what distinguishes fertile garden soil from infertile soil with little organ matter. --DR

    I like your simple approach! How could we prepare risk husks for use in hydroponics? Currently there is high temperatures and toxic chemicals used to extra the silica. There must be a water-based way at more accessible temperatures!

  • @SimpleGardening

    @SimpleGardening

    6 ай бұрын

    Firstly, rice husk is sterile and it will not hold any chemicals. However, if there is a chance of holding any sort of chemicals the carbonization process will deplete the levels of chemicals on the husk and make it more sterile and free of chemicals. To be on the extra safe side, soaking the carbonized husk in water for 2 days will help in dissolving any present chemicals or CPA's on it and will become viable to use. Hope your query is solved atleast a bit. Happy Gardening 😊

  • @SimpleGardening

    @SimpleGardening

    2 жыл бұрын

    That's a great question. Firstly, Rice husk take long time to decompose and its main constituents is silica. By carbonizing we are making the nutrients avaialble to plants thru husk. Secondly, CRH decomposes quickly. Regarding the emissions of smoke and use of resources like coal....yes that's a point to think about.

  • @SimpleGardening

    @SimpleGardening

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks a lot for Subscribing. Rice Husk acts as Perlite when added to garden soil or potting mixes and the additional advantage is it slowly decomposes and makes the soil so porous. As you have clay soil this will be a best amendment to make it loose and friable. However to change the soil structure permanently it takes a long time with continuous addition of amendments like husk, farm yard manure or worm castings etc. Along with husk you can add even river sand to your soil as these both help making the clay loose and it prevents caking when dry to some extent. If you prefer to add rice husk to your soil you can either use uncarbonized husk or carbonized husk (Decomposes quickly). Hope it clarifies your question.

    Yes u can use. That mixture u are planning can be termed as potting soil. Whereas potting mix is different as it doesn't contain any soil. I'll give you a ratio of Potting Soil, try it. Cocopeat - 30% Vermicompost or cow manure- 20% Red soil- 30% Rice husk- 10% Sand - 10%. U can change the ingredients ratios as u wish but don't exceed the red soil to more than 50% composition as it may increase the compaction in pots if it's more. Happy Gardening

  • @SimpleGardening

    If there is an availability of wheat husk u can try it, it works the same. Using straw/ hay under carbonization will turn the majority to ash but the whole straw will not be achieved, as the straw has hollow structures it in so when u carbonized the air in those structures will react and catch fire and will be burnt off. However u can give a try and kindly let me know the results. Thanks for watching the video.

    As with my experience and observations, I never had the problem of fungal growth in my potting soil. Secondly, rice husk is sterile so it does not attract any fungal growth. But we need to Remember....to decompose any substance the main heroes are fungi and bacteria which in turn are useful for soil life and plants too. If you had observed any fungal growth in your potting soil, I think it's good and your soil life is alive. Thanks for watching and happy Gardening 😊

  • @SimpleGardening

    @SimpleGardening

    When any potting mix is mixed with river sand or perlite it improves drainage. Perlite is a naturally occurring byproduct of volcanic glass, it aids on better drainage in agriculture. Where as river sand is available near rivers which is a bit coarse and is a cheap substitute to perlite. Any one of these added to soils improves good drainage and minimizes soil compaction. As per my knowledge, rice husk doesn't cause fungal growth as its sterile and it does not act as moisture absorbent but its a great alternate to perlite which works as a good drainage in pots. Any plant unless they are indoor plants they require a minimum of 4 hours sunlight hence ensure the plants gets ample sunlight. When no sunlight water the plant minimally and very less times whenever plants need only.

    Hi Madam, you can go upto 50% Rice husk, river sand 20%, use vermicompost or cow manure 10%, use peat moss or cocopeat 20%. Using both vermi compost and cow manure is not required. As a matter of fact vermicompost is quickly available to plants than cow manure. I would advise to use some bulking matter like peat moss or cocopeat so that seedlings will grow well. In the absence of peat moss or cocopeat increase river sand to 30% and use garden soil 10%. Happy Gardening

    The soil mix ratio is perfect, u can make redsoil 30% and that balance 10% u can add sheep manure or well decomposed cow manure apart from vermicompost. Carbonized husk acts as a organic fertilizer,though you add 40% of uncarbonized husk it takes months to years to get decomposed and the mode of decomposition is very slow, so this burnt husk can be used as fertilizer which adds nutrients to the soil within a week of application.
