    Also Vern was making Hulkamania shirts while hogan was in Japan (hogan made them and sold them himself), hogan came back and found out Vern was selling them without his consent and Vern wouldn’t give him a penny of it either. Then when Vern did offer to put the belt on hogan he said he wanted to keep doing the merchandise with hogan getting 0 plus he wanted a percentage of hogans Japan money.

    @@gregorylevi1826 hogan invented hulkamania, he made the shirts himself. When he left Vern sold hogan merchandise, with his trademark and gave hogan 0% of the profit…… How is that okay? Imagine you got famous and someone started selling your brand and likeness for profit and gave you nothing

    Gregory is a moron. That decision helped push Hogan away. Many other talents as well. Vern would rather put the belt on himself then Hogan, even with Nick Bockwinkle begging Vern to put the belt on him.

    @Ted Bell Verne had no way of knowing Hogan would go back to WWF especially since Vince Sr. kicked him out. Vince Jr. talked to Hogan sneakily in Japan so Verne didn't know. As far as Verne was concerned Hogan was coming back so legally he could sell Hogan Merchandise. Until Hogan left and officially went to WWF. That's what happens when you don't know the Law.

Came back to life somewhat as a heel in 1996, 1997, and 1998 but was a coward in the NWO. 1999,2000, and 2001 more turd years. 2002 wwf nwo wasn't that great at all, his match with the rock was the only highlight and that's when he should have retired because everyhting after that was terrible. That was the St. Paul Civic Center which is today the Xcel Energy Center home for the Minnesota Wild hockey team. Hogan vs. Bockwinkel was so popular that not only was the Civic Center sold out, but the Roy Wilkens Auditorium next door was sold out to watch the match on Closed Circuit. Hogan had a major problem with Verne selling Hogan merch while he was in Japan (which is completely normal in any promotion). Verne claimed that he gave Hogan his cut, but Hogan claimed Verne stiffed him on the pay. Both stories are believable.

  • @FerretJohn

    @FerretJohn

    More believable is that Verne stiffed him, he was kind of "old school" as a promoter with a habit of trying to take a personal cut out of his wrestlers deals.

    The St. Paul Civic Center is my favorite venue for classic wrestling. The AWA presentation in that building was PERFECT! And I am from NY. When we got the AWA starting in 1984 it was awesome. Too bad Verne lost his footing after the AWA/NWA partnership.

He got the role because they needed a big wrestler and he fit the part. Hulk actually got fired by Vince McMahon sr for taking the part. He said he didn't want one of his guys doing movies so he gave Hogan an ultimatum that he either turn it down or he's fired. Then when Rocky came out Hogan became a megastar.

    Ric is the better overall package in terms of character and in-ring skill combined.......but Hogan was smart enough to understand that making himself popular with a preteen boy audience is where the most money was at. Hogan basically got himself over as a real life 80s action hero, right next to the Ninja Turtles, Batman, He-Man, etc. He bridged the worlds of professional wrestling and comic book merchandising, which would lead to toys, video games, etc.

    The 2 biggest stars of the 1980's. Imo ric flair was the better all around performer. He's the greatest to ever lace up a pair of boots. I rooted for both as a kid but as I got older I realized how bad of an in ring performer hulk hogan was. Wwf was selling to kids with hogan's say your prayers, take your vitamins and drink your milk. Nwa was selling to men with ric flair. Everybody wanted to be ric flair with his sex and alcohol gimmick. Jet flying, limousine riding. Flair oozed charisma. Wrestled 1 hour matches monthly. Hogan maybe wrestled a few 1 hour matches. It's not close in my opinion and hulk hogan's either

    Sylvester Stallone created Hulk Hogan. Putting him in that Rocky movie gave him the exposure that Vince later leveraged to mainstream pro wrestling to the general public. Without Stallone's influence, Hulk Hogan would have been just another big mediocre wrestler, like John Studd or Blackjack Mulligan....
