Rhythm Roulette: Brasstracks | Mass Appeal

Ойын-сауық

When we took Brasstracks to Norman's Sound & Vision in Williamsburg for Mass Appeal Rhythm Roulette, they ended up with Gene McDaniels' 100 Lbs. of Clay!, The 5th Dimension Live!!, and Jack Ü's self-titled album. After they find their initial loop with 5th Dimension's "I Just Want To Be Your Friend," they quickly get to work and bring their idea to life. Then a slow piano progression on Gene's record catches their ears for another beat. No love for Jack Ü in this episode of Rhythm Roulette.

    You don't always have to be THAT "great" at doing it either though. Because you can always just play around randomly on it and then just resample it yourself and then chop or manipulate it like you would anything else when sampling something off of a record and ect...

    Dowdy Beats ... the standard bar. 9th Wonder, Just Blaze and a handful of other Rhythm Roulette were on this level...but the inclusion of multiple live instrumentation actually played by the producer is simply next level.

    I mean j dilla didn’t play instruments on his records I believe he was mainly a sample based producer but he’s one of if not the greatest producer of all time and he changed not just hip hop, but many genres with his drums so I don’t know what real producer means

  • @poet215

    @poet215

    7 жыл бұрын

    Pretentious isn't really what I'm trying to accomplished with the statement. Look, almost everybody say they are producers but don't live up to the title. Folks use it as a badge or honor and a bit of self confidence, but in reality they are just making beats. These dudes not only flip a sample, but added their own flare to the mix. Using live instruments and proper guidance to the song. Now, my statement may have ruffled some feathers but at the end of the day, it's all love and respect. If anything, I'm happy that people are making music even if it's on a maschine, FL Studio, or even in a band. So for those that took the statement to the heart, my deepest sorrows...
