***Spoilers for Mistborn at the end*** I loved how Cultivation beat everyone without ever showing her face. She did it in a way that was so true to her shard's essence. She planted seeds years ahead of time gifting Dalinar, Tarivangian, and Lift to encourage them to grow into exaclty who she needed them to become. She doesn't fight like a warrior but like a gardener. I also wonder whether she misjudged Taravangian, he is so much more terrifying than Rayse. I always felt that Odium seemed far too incompetent to be the big bad of the series, now we know why. It was all a set up for the real villain. This is just like in Mistborn when you think the emperor guy is bad until you discover Ruin. Sanderson at his best.

Yeah, the ending made it pretty clear that Cultivation made a huge mistake. Also Brandon's reading of the sequel to Sixth of the Dusk gives possibly a clue to how things will go in book five based on the contract. At least that's what my mind assumed when the contract was finalized.

That whole scene reminded me of a movie, I just don't remember what. Maybe the Matrix? Maybe a marvel movie? Its a scene where a bunch of bad guys are giving a dude a hard time, and he turns on the real skill and drops everyone. I feel like the guy knocks people out of their bodies and changes gravity on them maybe? Possibly iron man, where he uses the parts of his suit to tie bad guys together? It is right on the edge of my mind. Spiderman, maybe? Where he hits a bunch of guys with webs and hangs them or locks them down with fluid ease. Maybe it was Thanos in Endgame or Infinity war just wrecking the avengers on Titan. Possibly Donny Yen in IP Man. I feel like this is the one. He ties his enemies up seemingly without trying at all. He just puts them down like a bunch of over eager puppies. Damn, it will come to me at some point.

Some of the other channels have great info as well but you come off as 100% genuine as well as knowledgeable. I hate when people pick apart and hate on these books and it's so refreshing to see someone that, like me, just sits and enjoys every single word and is just overjoyed to have new content. Like others here, I'd love to see you do more in depth videos about the greater cosmere connections between the different books. All in due time though. As a one-two punch between books 1 and 5 Tien is the most powerful cathartic arc. But its nature as a flashback played out in my mind as a kind of greyscale slow-motion shot. There was a sense of inevitability from the moment Kaladin is able to see Tien from across the battlefield that somehow, in my opinion, makes it easier to swallow. It happened in the past. As a reader you could see it coming. There was no chance of salvation. But Elhokar's death..... that was devastating. Seeing him struggling to fight through his wounds with so many surrounding enemies, you kinda brace yourself for someone important to die- but then you see him speaking the first ideal. You see a nearby spren ready to give him strength. You lower your guard and begin to hope. And then WHAM! It was all just a feint by Sando before the brutal, cold-blooded murder.

Great wrap up! Man, I forgot how much was in this Part! The Jasnah/Wit relationship is so interesting. I couldn't tell if they were "involved" before (and was kind of hoping they weren't) but their dynamic is so unusual and somehow fitting. I loved the part where Kaladin is reunited with Syl and she just makes a beeline for him. I love that she's also recovering from her own struggles along with our boy. The fight with the Pursuer was mind-blowing, but terrifying to me, with Kal under the influence of Odium. I also just ate up how El called the Pursuer "Defeated One" at the end. Like he was just completely shut down and disgraced. (Also, is El being set up as the Big Bad for the next book?) Teft losing his spren was heartbreaking, but at least he didn't have to love without her... :( It was so tender to see their moments together before the end (painful foreshadowing in retrospect) Man, the scenes with Kal falling and the reunion with Teft. I was bawling. Heck, just listening to your recap made me tear up! Such a beautiful way to close that circle and give him some much-needed healing. I love how Rlain has come from a forgettable side character to become a major player in events. I was so pleasantly surprised at the twist that the weird cremling following him around was the spren waiting to bond him! I guess after "Dawnshard", I look much more suspiciously at every mention of a cremling... :| The part with Ishar trying to steal Dalinar's bond with the Stormfather?? 8-O And the spren experiments, sooooo damn creepy. The slow reveal in that part is terrifying. What the heck has he been up to? I agree, I loved the setup for Szeth in the next book. Sounds like we're going to hear much more about the Honorblades and Shin society. The conversation between Taravangian and Cultivation was awesome. Just mindblowing how his intelligence and emotions were a setup to take over the shard of Odium. Though it seems it may not all go according to plan. Can't wait to see how that plays out. I hadn't considered how that changes the stakes of the upcoming confrontation with Dalinar. Should be an incredible scene to read!! Leshwi is another super interesting, multi-faceted character. I am so intrigued by the Fused and their ambiguous motivations. It's cool to see how the Epilogues have shifted from "Wit witnessing important events" to "Wit being the center of important events". I had no idea he was going to become such a central player in this story. Thanks so much for making this such a fun experience to read along with you! Can't wait to watch your next lore videos. Maybe we'll all be back in 3 years for Book 5 :D

there are so many little things that stood out to me in the last part of this book. when kaladin goes into his frenzy he was described as erupting in a red-gold light reminiscent of something not revealed entirely as the sentence was cut off, navani learning to listen for the rhythms and understand them immediately as a singer would, raboniel and navani actually singing together to combine lights, raboniel turning on moash in the end and doing everything in her power to keep him from killing navani out of sheer respect and will to end the war, nightblood actually drinking rayse's investiture until they were full, deadeyes besides maya being implied to be recoverable, just so much stuff to think about. and I didn't put it together that thaidakar was who he was until you mentioned it and I am absolutely reeling at the implications of what that means considering exactly the kind of person he is and what he's capable of. I know this comment is super scattered and rambly but my head is spinning right now as I only finished the book a few hours ago

I'm reading Secret History again now, really enjoying it with some new insights. I'm so glad you finished with RoW, because I was really looking forward to your reaction. I've been underwhelmed by a lot of other booktubers reactions, and yours really summed up a lot of my feelings about the book. I know I'm going to be in the distinct minority here, but I read the First Law trilogy and really didn't like it that much. It was engaging enough to keep me reading it, but I just didn't have any strong feelings about it one way or another. It was just kinda "meh" to me. I'm sure I'll give it a reread at some point, but I'm much more interested in Cosmere and Wheel of Time than anything in First Law. Thanks as always for a great recap and reactions video. Looking forward to more lore and theory videos! I'm gonna hype your channel in a few fandom groups I'm in and hopefully build up your subscriber numbers for you. You're so genuine and fun to watch, I really thing you should have a bigger following. Thanks again!

I'm glad you could connect with my feelings on the ending man! I respect the opinions of others who weren't as blown away by this book as I was but I really cannot hide the excitement this final part gave me! Oh okay, that's cool to hear a different angle of First Law. For me, what made me fall in love with fantasy again was A Song of Ice and Fire so based on that alone, I think at the very least I'll enjoy the character work in FIrst Law, so we'll see. (Don't worry, Cosmere and SA videos will still be happening :)) Thanks so much for the kind words mate and sharing the channel in other domains, that really means the world to me!

Kaladin is a beast. He bested the Pursuer multiple times in that fight when he had access to only 1 of his surges and wouldn’t have been able to heal himself if he had been badly wounded. The thing that really got me about Kaladin jumping off the roof of Urithiru was when Dalinar and the Stormfather were watching him fall and Dalinar thinks “It wasn’t the bearing of a man who was fighting. Nor was it the bearing of someone who rode the winds. It was the bearing of someone who had given up.” Ugh. Punch to the gut. Kaladin’s vision with Tien and Teft’s death both made me cry. Love Teft ♥️ I was a little underwhelmed by Shallan’s conversation with Mraize to be honest because he has been built up to be a mysterious and frightening person whom you don’t want to mess with. But Shallan just makes him look like a chump. It kind of took some of the impact of his character away for me. I hope he is able to do something big in book 5. I feel like too much needs to happen for the story to wrap up in 10 days! I really enjoyed that whole section with Ishar. I had a feeling Kaladin would end up getting involved with helping heal the broken minds of the Heralds. I really hope he can help Taln specifically. After seeing what an effortlessly lethal fighter Ishar is with the Bondsmith Honorblade and then the Stormfather says Ishar is an average fighter compared to the other Heralds, but Taln is by far the best. Damn. If a sane Taln could get hold of that Honorblade and end up being Dalinar’s champion, that would be nuts. But again, his brain won’t be fixed in 10 days! I’m assuming Dalinar will somehow fight with that blade. But can he fight with an Honorblade if he is bonded to the Stormfather? I don’t think so. I’m assuming Taravangian still looks like Rayse because Wit called him Rayse and didn’t seem to think Odium looked at all different, just that he acted different. I thought Odium had just taken Taravangian’s body but he still has Taravangian’s mind so I’m not sure how this works. Does Odium just give you his strength and desires but you still stay yourself as well? Couldn’t quite wrap my head around that. Kaladin using his shard plate to shield others, Leshwi abandoning Odium and fighting for the Radiants, The Sibling being restored, Moash going blind, Rlain bonding a spren. So many great moments. Can’t wait for book 5 ♥️

@@carlsmith4568 it will be interesting to see what the shard wants. Syl made it sound like it's the hate of god while Rayse called it passion. Regardless, it seems like the part of Adolnasium that desires revenge. Oddly enough, that set Rayse against his coconspirators, filling him with the desire to destroy those that caused the shattering and those that would stand in his way. Taravangian was prepared for the shard through the diagram and accepting the need to destroy all, even his friends and innocent children, who would stand in its way. Does the shard seek the destruction of the other shards, or was that powered by Rayse's knowledge of the shattering? Is jealousy in Passion's portfolio and will that fuel the need to either assume or destroy the other shards. Taravangian did seek to become the supreme ruler over all Roshar. Will be follow that path with the whole Cosmere?

I don't think Dalinar is looking for another perspective, so much as a challenge to his ideas. Think of his book like an army of ideas. Each one must be tested against an opponent that wants to destroy them, and only when the dust settles can you determine who remains standing unbroken. It fits his mindset and personality. He has always sought out the strongest opponent in battle, and Jasnah is the strongest mind on the planet. If she can't break his ideas down, they must be unbreakable. Dalinar's book is a sword forged using a lifetime of knowledge. He wants to see if his blade will crack and shatter when used against the armor from a legendary armorsmith.

I've seen a lot of commentators not especially love Wit and Jasnah. But it makes sense to me. Jasnah has exactly one intellectual equal on Roshar, and none when Wit world hops away. She has the stature of a queen, but it must be noted that THAT ISN'T ENOUGH. She's already begun reforms, as if she intends to bring about 400 years of liberalization single handedly. That is much closer to the scale of action that Wit could consider than any other mortal on Roshar except the max-brilliance Taravangian that created the Diagram. If she has romantic inclinations at all, Wit IS the worthiest figure on the planet. Especially since he has understood her long before Radiants became commonplace again. F--- Moash. The Pursuer was a fantastic 1-off villain but I'm glad he died for real at the end. Kaladin came genuinely close to giving in to Odium and I believe that if Moash hadn't been driven off by his anti-lighteyes passion (or is it a Passion?) he would have broken Kaladin for good. Even if Kaladin had begun to stand up and recover, the immediate death of Lirin would have left him desperate to die or, more likely, ready and willing to accept Odium's offer to take his pain. Raboniel best girl? Raboniel best girl. #NavaniKholinisbestKholin I loved the look at the Listeners, and I'm very very into the promise we've gotten of Listener Radiants. R'lai as a Truthwatcher is soooo right. 10 days. Taravangian is terrifying, WAY scarier than Rayse. Because he believes he is right. And he is clever and devious. Anyone expecting Todium's champion to be a defenseless child? Or somehow be Elhokar's son? Taravangian is a really wonderful villain, because he is Dalinar's true philosophical counter. Odium will either not be a back-5 villain, or he will be a Cosmere-wide threat to a degree never before seen. But I trust Cultivation. Wit and Taravangian. Oh boy. I think Wit got played, but Wit isn't the story teller. Sanderson is. Whatever happened to Wit is the way that Odium is going to be broken, if he is. I love Nightblood so much. So many things have pointed at Nightblood being the most powerful item in the Cosmere by some serious measure. It CASUALLY kills a Shard vessel. Nothing like that has been shown before. Like, at all. The Bondsmith scene though... Yikes. Book 5 is going to be crazier and more intense than anything we've seen so far. (I won't say it since you didn't, but he's back! Its crazy and weird and Thaidakar is going to be terrifying.)

I think she has not only achieved revenge by orchestrating the death of the one who killed her husband/lover, but she will also succeed in cultivating a very strong ally in Taravangodium, and I'm speculating now but I think the 'Contest of Champions' will become a moot point. I expect Dalinar to fight alongside both Gods willingly, not as friends, but as allies of necessity. I expect book 5 will quickly end the Rosharan War and begin the Cosmere War.

I felt like she mightn’t have anticipated the more sinister side of Taravangian but the scene was so brief it’s hard to say. I think you’re correct that the later half of the series will definitely lead into a Cosmere scale war (which would be amazing!)

Great videos Christian. It's great to see people passionate about books. The whole arc with Kaladin in this book, reaching back to book one, was amazing. I was a bit worried for a few minutes that he was going to take the same path as Moash, but instead he swears the fourth ideal! I'm really glad Shallan did not go through with killing Kalak; I think I would have checked out on her if that had happened. Loved the parts with Dabbid and Rlain. I totally agree with you on Rabonial. She was a great character that made you want to pull for her even though she was supposed to be a villain. Was the drop about Odium being the one to get people to use lashings new? I haven't read the first 3 books in a while. Overall, really enjoyed ROW and now the long wait for book 5. I'm currently reading Warbreaker so I might have to go on a re-read of Stormlight and Mistbord after that. Looking forward to your next video.

Hmm I think that may have been new information with Odium but I suspect it is probably mentioned in a sentence hidden in The Way of Kings somewhere lol! Appearently it is a lot like game of thrones but I think it would be so cool to see what you can pick out of the WOBs about Eshonai in a separate video. Gosh. What an epic book - this book was so rich, and set up sooo much for the future!! My cry-my-eyes out moments were Maya (yaaayyy!!!💖) , and The Kaladin/storm scene in part 5. Oof. Just, wow. I'm actually really stressed to think about the Wit implications, and it's so exciting I did NOT foresee the Taravangian arc, AT ALL, arghh!! My poor brain Stormlight has been my absolute favourite series since the moment I saw Way of Kings on the New Release stand at my old bookshop...I just knew it was something special! If you've not listened to Graphic Audio's version of the audiobook, please do it!! Such immersion! Btw, it's such a good feeling, the way all us 'SanderFans' talk so excitedly about the series 😊

Few things "Confident and somehow still full of hope, Teft died." That moment and that line is so powerful that even though I've finished the book three weeks ago, it still makes me cry when I think about it. Second, I don't know if you noticed or not but it was said in the endnote that keteks written by singers have more focus on the last part. Same as so much things happen in part 5. This book had so much weightage on part 5 when it comes to major events. And I think that detail is cool. Then a question for you, I thought you had only read Mistborn era 1. So if you haven't read Secret History how did you pick up on Thaidakar's identity? Lastly, I just finished The Last Argument of Kings few days ago. And Abercrombie has become my most favourite author along with Sanderson. Can't wait for your thoughts on the First Law books. Cheers!!

I'll be honest, I can't entirely wrap my head around Kelsier running the Ghost Bloods. I know he survived and all that, but the Ghost Bloods always came across as dangerous and villainous. Admittedly Kelsier was always a morally grey character, but I assumed after Mistborn Secret History, and his helping the Southern Scadrians survive the post-Catacendre climate, that he was now more morally good. Running the Ghost Bloods, trying to seize investiture for fun and profit and employing dangerous sociopaths like Iyatl and Mraize seem to imply my view on him becoming less grey was wrong. I can't see Kelsier condoning putting Lift in a cage, for instance, and essentially selling her to the Singers. Will have to see how Sanderson plays this, but yeah.

I really love your videos! Your perspective is so fresh and real. I watch and like many other reviewers of RoW too but you convey things more as a fellow reader just having a chat and not so critical of the minor things. I love this! I hope you don't mind that opinion :) There are a couple of points that I have not heard anyone talk about. Maybe these are so obvious to others but I wanted to get some people's ideas to see if I'm on the right track. Why did all the dead eyes show up in Shadesmar? Was this a timing thing. Or was Maya somehow able to send a telepathic beacon of hope to them? Or could they sense change coming. Are all the new deadeyes due to Ishar's experiments? This seems obvious to me, but no one has talked about it so I wondered if I have this wrong.

  • @fireymissile

    @fireymissile

I don't think that the deadeyes came about because of Ishar's experiments. They started appearing after the Recreance. For Ishar's experiments to be the cause, it must mean that he would have started these experiments around the time of the Recreance. That doesn't seem to be the case though, since he'd definitely have made much progress since then. Although it is a possibility. If that turns out to be true, then that would be truly horrifying.

@@fireymissile Right. I was referring to the "new" deadeyes that are being created (based on the market scene where the spren was recently turned into a deadeye). So it is only these "new" deadeyes that I think Ishar is creating. And then the others...all the existing deadeyes have been existing throughout shadesmar for ages all over the place (even at the bottom of the ocean) but suddenly there is now a crowd on them at Lasting Integrity (did I get that name right.)

My impression is that the unfortunate sprens ending up on ishar's operating tables got yanked wholly out of the Cognitive Realm, and thus them being dead there is likely true death (albeit with a carcass left behind, unlike a voidlight-caused annihilation), instead of the body just being a physical realm manifestation with their cognitive self becoming dead eyes. Narratively it feels more horrific this way rather the more hopefully recoverable state of being dead eyes.

I've always liked Lirin too. I feel like in so many other fantasy books I have read, there is this common trope of the main character being orphaned or at least having one parent. Even having villainous parents is a thing that isn't unusual. I feel like it's convenient for why the main character has trauma and little guidance so they can be easily swept up into the fantastical without much consequence. Lirin is kind of unexplored territory for so many readers, like how is a father of a young adult who is single handedly flipping the world on its head supposed to act? He has a baby that he would like to raise in peace and a wife that he would like to protect from violence and a profession that plays in to much to his personal values. He is written so well
