Rhesus Factor Incompatibility

A potential problem with a rhesus negative mother.
If a Rhesus negative woman is exposed to Rhesus positive blood as a result of syringe sharing, the resultant Rhesus factor antibodies will be;
a. Ig A
b. Ig B
c. Ig F
d. Ig G *
Haemolytic disease of the new-born is a possibility when:
a. Mother is Rhesus positive and father is Rhesus negative
b. Mother is Rhesus positive and father is Rhesus positive
c. Mother is Rhesus negative and father is Rhesus negative
d. Mother is Rhesus negative and father is Rhesus positive *
If a mother is carrying Rhesus factor antibodies in her plasma and her foetus is
Rhesus factor positive then:
a. Maternal Rhesus factor antibodies will cause agglutination of maternal red blood
cells
c. Maternal Rhesus factor antibodies will not cross the placenta in to the foetus
c. Maternal Rhesus factor antibodies will cross the placenta in to the foetus
d. None of the above

    I am absolutely addicted to Dr. Campbell’s videos. They are the best videos I have ever seen. I have no medical background, but I am learning so much. I stumbled across them while looking at utube, and now can’t wait to find time in the day or night to watch them. There seems to be a large amount of them, and I hope I can find the time to watch them all. Keep them coming lol. I watch them while having breakfast and just before I go to bed. Thank you for sharing an incredible amount of knowledge.

    Nothing. Because mother’s body will not identify rh factor as a foreign thing thus it will not produce antibody against it. So normal pregnancy

    Most informative explanation. Im O-, have 3 children with my husband who must be RH+/-, since my 1st born is also O-, but my 2nd and 3rd are O+. I received the Rhogam shots, but my 3rd child was born with jaundice. What they need to tell O- pregnant women is that if there is any type of injury while pregnant, you need to seek medical treatment. I fell down with my 2nd (O+) child. I think the shot should be given earlier in the pregnancy.

    Thank you so much for explaining rh- mothers and rh+ babies . I am 65 years old and well past my child bearing years . lol But I never had this explained to me where I understood what that meant could happen to my children . Me being rh- . I am O- and my first child was born I don't know her blood type ,but I think she was 0 +. They might have gave me the shot for it ? I'm not sure, they gave me a few shots 😄 . My second child has a different father who was rh- , she is A- . So he must be an A- right ? Well anyway just wanted to say thank you. Dusty

    If the anti D injection is given immediately after or during the first pregnancy, which then ensures the mother is free of rhesus +ve antibodies before the second pregnancy, what now happens during the 3rd pregnancy? I know you said “somehow” the anti D prevents fetal blood from the second pregnancy from entering the mother’s blood stream. How does it do that really? If it does, what happens during childbirth then, where fetal blood from placenta could get into the mother? I JUST WANT TO KNOW……. Can the mother produce fresh IgG antibodies during a second pregnancy which could endanger a third? Are are these Anti D injections given at every pregnancy? Thanks a lot.

  • @dustycrum

    @dustycrum

    That your husband is B+ and you need the shot for your future babies and should have had it right after birth of your son. If not make sure you have it during or before your next birth. Your son , he will be fine . It does not harm the first child .Your body goes after the next child . And as long as the father is rh+ you need the shot before the next child . Useless it's a different father and he's rh- then you will have a rh- baby with no problems. But rh + father will always be a problem you can fix with a couple of shots. Okay hope it helped .

    @@dustycrum thank you for the explanation, but I want to still ask, I'm Rh - and I gave birth before with a different man so I later got married and gave birth again with my daughter (rh+ with the father). Now,it was after giving birth to her that they said I was supposed to take that Rhogan shot which I didn't take because they said it was late then. Now, after that girl, I have not been able to get pregnant again upon several trials. I want to know, is it because of the rh- in me and that I didn't take the shot that is preventing me from getting pregnant again? Also, if I eventually get pregnant, will the child survive or not? Please I need some explanations. Thanks

    The problem with the Rhogam shots that you did NOT mention is that they carry severe and deadly adverse events - Intravascular hemolysis (IVH) leading to death has been reported in patients treated for immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) with Rho(D) immune globulin. IVH can lead to clinically compromising anemia and multi-system organ failure, including acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), acute renal insufficiency, renal failure, and disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). Alert patients and closely monitor for the signs and symptoms of IVH in a health care setting for at least 8 hours after administration for ITP. Perform a dipstick urinalysis at baseline, 2 hours, 4 hours after administration, and prior to the end of the monitoring period. If signs and/or symptoms of IVH are present or suspected, post-treatment laboratory tests should be performed. Hemolytic reaction includes hypotension, nausea, chills, headache, and a decrease in haptoglobin and hemoglobin. Disseminated intravascular coagulation, Intravascular hemolysis, hemolysis resulting in death, clinically compromising anemia, extravascular hemolysis, hemolytic reaction, Hemoglobinemia, disseminated intravascular coagulation, vertigo, Tachycardia, hypotension, erythema, pruritus, Increase in blood pressure, Cardiac arrest, cardiac failure, myocardial infarction, etc.

    You get the matching antibodies directly after the birth of your first child? A miscarriage could have different reasons (stress) too. Possibly you could try a Rh- man for your next child.

But I later on had a set of twins and my body aborted one of them at about the third month but one hung on until the 25 th week 5 month when my body aborted the other but he was a viable healthy young man with a family of his own I am very happy to say but he started out life at 1 lb. 10 oz. and was 10 inches long . And no one ever mentioned about our blood types maybe being different during that time . I guess just keeping him alive was more important . But I would like to know if that was the cause maybe their rh was different a + .
