One of my favorite bands. Always nice melodies, great vocals. They have one of their albums with Sir Christopher Lee as a guest. Very suitable for the Fantasy themed songs

I had my huge powermetal phase between 97 and 2003... I think I was almost buying a new album every month. Rhapsody was among my favorites. I remember I thought many of their songs had a hint of Warcraft II music in them.

That period was the golden one, especially for Rhapsody. The entire *Emerald Sword Saga* (first 5 Albums) was released in that period: _1997 - Legendary Tales:_ *Warrior of Ice* , Virgin Skies, Lord Of the Thunder *_1998 - Symphony Of Enchanted Lands:_* *Emerald Sword* , *Eternal Glory* *_2000 - Dawn Of Victory:_* *Dawn Of Victory* , *Triumph for My Magic Steel* , *The Village of Dwarves* , Holy Thunderforce _2001 - Rain Of A Thousand Flames:_ *The Wizard's Last Rhymes* , Queen Of The Dark Horizons _2002 - Power Of The Dragonflame:_ Power Of The Dragonflame, The March of the Swordmaster, *Agony Is My Name* At the same time the composer had a really similar side project *Luca Turilli's Band* : *_1999 - King of the Nordic Twilight:_* *Kings of the Nordic Twilight* , *Warrior's Pride* , *Knight Of Immortal Fire* , *The Ancient Forest of Elves* , The Legend of Steel *_2002 - Demonheart (EP):_* *Black Realms' Majesty* _2002 - Prophet of the Last Eclipse:_ War Of The Universe, Rider of the Astral Fire, The Age of Mystic Ice.

That was fun (both song and reaction), and I totally agree with the viewpoint you expressed at the start. The only reason I've heard of Rhapsody is because when they had to add "of Fire" to their name for legal reasons, fellow Italians Nanowar added "of Steel" to theirs, in either solidarity or parody. I saw NoS live last weekend, in a goofy, extremely low-budget show which was huge fun. This is the first time I've heard RoF; I was drawn to this reaction because of that concert.

Great reaction! Haven't seen Conan in ages, need to go see it now :) As for intros like this one, "Epicus Furor", they have intros like that on all their albums basically. Probably the ones that have the most similar feel to this one would be "Lux Triumphans" from the 2000 album "Dawn of Victory", "In Tenebris" from the 2002 album "Power of the Dragonflame" and "Dark Frozen World" from the 2010 album "The Frozen Tears of Angels".

While not the biggest fan of it, it certainly has its place. We used a lot of this sort of music along with Manowar, the LOTR and Conan soundtracks (amongst others) as background noise for our DnD sessions. Sometimes the music would line up perfectly with what was happening in game.

Ah...Rhapsody (yes, just Rhapsody), this really takes me back. When I was power metal junkie I used to love these guys. The reason why you found that resemblance to Conan OST, is because the main songwritter for Rhapsody loves epic movie soundtracks, he actually initially called Rhapsody's style "Symphonic Hollywood Metal" for that reason. I lost interest in them after the 4th album (3rd one was interesting cause it was a bit different), but with 4th and moving forward they were releasing the same music album after album, and you can care so much for dragons and magic swords (actually in a previous request list for Sistah I requested a song by these guys, but then removed it cause I considered it was too cheesy). They became that influential that they spawned a horrible ammount of copy cats bands (similar to what happened to Nightwish). Despite of not considering myself a fan of them since many years, I went to one of their concerts a couple of months ago, baited out of nostalgia, and it's safe to say it was a really good concert and they performed live better than I expected. As for Epic Soundtrack music style, names that come to my mind (in no particular order): Two Steps from Hell, Antti Martikainen, AudioMachine, Dol Ammad (later named Dol Theeta, if you want epic space music, instead of epic fantasy), Galactic Empire (Star Wars music, but metal style), Gleb Kolyadin, Kyle Morrison (Pianometal...yes, pianometal), Nox Arcana (epic gothic gloomy style), Seth Angerer, SvaDaRa (epic Hindi music), Yossi Sassi (Middle Eastern epic)...and many others I cant recall right now.

During the intro I was just thinking "Where do I know that melody?" Then you immediately made the Conan connection. That gets a sub from me for sure. And you're absolutely right that power metal is all about the headspace. I primarily listen to darker music but power metal gives me such a feeling of escapism when I'm in the right headspace. Great reaction, cheers brother

#WolfKain I loved Ultima 8 in particular, played it in the mid 90's while listening to mixed tapes of ol' 70's Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Zeppelin stuff. :) If you loved Conan stuff? Well, have you heard the swedish band (no longer existing) Lost Horison? They did a song called "The Highlander", which has a bit of that epic warrior touch, and the song is an effin masterpiece! That one, along with "The Accolade" with Symphony X. Those two songs will change your view of the genre of prog power symphonic metal stuff ;)

I never understood how someone one can connect with only one type of music. For me its like 99% depending on my mood. Metal, I can always listen to regardsless. But sometimes im feeling nostalgic or missing my parents, then I can listen to ABBA or Roxette all day long. If Im sad or Depressed I listen to Björn Affzelius (A swedish component who wrote kind of melancholy pop mixed with with a little bit of folk music. If Im angry or frustrated metal always works, ofc... But with some specific angers I can prefer other genres. When I pissed with the government punk does wonders. If Im angry with people in general, then I often go ton"conscious rappers" like Tom MacDonald or Hopsin (or the old Eminem tracks) these are rappers who call out, mostly but not limited to, other rapper who are bad role model pushing booze and drugs or whatever with their music. To me only connecting with one specific genre or type of music is literally the same as only liking a single type of meal. I fakking LOOOOVE Sushi... But If it was literally the only thing I ever ate, moning, lunch, dinner every day my entire life I would probably end myaelf. This is not a critique of you btw, what friggin business of mine is your taste in music? Absolutely fakkin none 🤣 You do whatever makes you happy, naturally. This post is just pure curiousity. I genuinely do not understand how that works... Cuz in my mind its actually impossible.
