Reykjavik Eartquake - Iminent Volcanic Eruption - Unprecedented Situation

I will add it to the description if something new happens and make a new video later on because it's just so shaky situation here in Iceland. The video explains it but here are the links I mentioned.
Update February 27th 14:30 GMT - I'm translating this statement from the Cicil Defence Agency. Link to source:
www.mbl.is/frettir/innlent/20...
Its time to call for the craftsmen:
It is important that people take good care of their homes and workplaces, fasten cabinets both upstairs and downstairs and do not store heavy items on shelves. This is what Víðir Reynisson, chief police officer at the civil defense, says. The greatest danger of the earthquake in Reykjanes is not a possible eruption but that objects fall on people in the earthquakes and injure them.
"We are very serious about people looking at their surroundings," says Víðir. It's not enough to take down large statues or paintings and plan to hang them up again when the tremors have finished, as he has seen on social media.
"It does not work that way. Although there earthquakes tremours going on now and there is a greater chance of large earthquakes, large earthquakes can occur without warning so people have to think about homes and workplaces based on that. Now people need to call in craftsmen to the workplace and have these things reviewed. "
Danger levels are in force in Reykjanes, the capital area and in Árnessýsla due to seismic activity on the Reykjanes peninsula, where thousands of earthquakes have occurred in recent days, the largest 5.7 on Wednesday. Víðir says the message therefore applies to all those who live in the danger area, and in fact more. "People all over the country who live in earthquake zones must always be thinking about this."
No evidence of magma intrusion
The civil defense met at noon with scientists from the University of Iceland, the Meteorological Office and representatives of municipalities in the southwest corner, as well as representatives from the electricity and telecommunications sector, where the most likely scenarios were reviewed. "It was a good meeting and a lot of information, as there were close to 130 people who came to it in one way or another," says Víðir.
He says the scenarios due to the seismic activity remain unchanged. On the one hand, the earthquakes continue measuring over five and objects can collapse from shelves or move around and cause injuries. However, there might be an even larger earthquake in the east with more impact on buildings and interior fittings. However, it is not considered likely that houses will collapse.
The response to an eruption was not specifically reviewed at the meeting, as there is no evidence of magma intrusions. However, scientists continue to review the situation. Updated response plans and evacuation plans for urban areas in Reykjanes are available.

Sure. Activity can happen anywhen and can stop for 300 hundred years. At Nice in South of France, nobody is prepared for a big 7.2, 7.5 earthquake that they know will happen anywhen from now. 300 years ago it happened. But it is sure that nothing is prepared and nobody is aware of what to do. It will be a big disaster. Be safe.

That can still mean that there are more earthquakes in certain specific areas, of course. Hang in there, and really hope you all will remain safe.

Be Prepared,Iceland is extremely expensive. They should warn you in the travel agencies. I stopped there for 3 days. I always wanted to go. My hotel wanted $20 US for breakfast for 1 person so I didn't include it. I should have. The restaurants in Reykjavik charged $50 US for the cheapest item on the menu, ala carte-no soup salad etc. we ended up ,like a whole lot of other tourists buying gas station sandwiches at Seven Eleven for about $10 US each. It is a beautiful country but even the Park charges $5 just to use the bathroom! A one day tour cost $300. In Ireland I took a one day tour for $3US on a bus. Not trying to be negative but just trying to prepare you for sticker shock.

@@rayne.1778 sure! I have no problem sharing info! Since mid february we are in the middle of an eruption. It’s kinda on and off because they are paroxysmals so they go off for a couple of hours with huge clouds of gas and ash, high lava fountains and lava flows but then they stop and begin again a couple of days later. We currently experienced 8 paroxysmals events in less than 2 weeks. (Also sorry for the english most of the scientific terms are unknown to me!)

@@rayne.1778 oh no! It’s not dangerous at all! We are very used to the etna being in constant eruption. One of the most active craters pushes the lava flow into a big depression called “valle del bove” and it stays there. It’s also pretty high! It’s very uncommon for etna to threaten the small towns built under it’s feet. At least not with eruptions, earthquakes are another matter but they are usually very small and not so frequent. I live in the city so i’m 40 km away from it

Despite the fact that even a single lost life is a tragedy. Compared to the immense power which exploded and reshaped the St Helens, its a small miracle that 'only a few dozen' people perished in this violent and powerful eruption! The landslide that preceded the initial eruption was shocking to see already. The entire eruption reached a size of VEI-5, comparable to about 1/3d of the fallout of the famous Vesuvius eruption in 73, that buried Herculaneum and Pompeii, in Italy. Approximately 1 cubic kilometer of volcanic ash and fine pumice went atmospheric and wreacked havoc on the entire area! Several people were caught in the volcano's pyroclastic surge, including a(n amateur?) geologist who was covering the eruption from his mobilehome. All they ever found from that was the framework of the mobilhome, not a sign of the person himself who was expected to be totally evaporated by the extreme heat of the pyroclastic ashcloud hitting his position. He sacrificed his life for scientific information. Still he should have gotten away sooner! Ofocurse always 'easy' to say in hindsight: his life wasnt worth the information he gave. valuable as it was, his life was worth more!

I'm still far more concerned about getting shot than The Big One or the yearly winter storms that topple 6+ story trees into bedrooms in the middle of the night. But no, earthquakes are not fun. At least when I lived in other parts of the country with hurricanes or tornadoes, you had some kind of warning other than the floor underneath you suddenly moving like you are at sea on a boat.
