Rex Rabbits on the Homestead

Well, it's about time we tell you about our rabbits ...or rather, Madison's rabbits.
Back in California we had a Holland Lop who was, unfortunately for the little guy, named Sir Peter Bun-bun, Elsa Tickle-Smootch Holt. Haha. We Loved having a rabbit and Madison participated in our local 4-H and practiced her showmanship with him. Unfortunately he was fixed and therefore she was never able to breed him, which was something she had been interested in doing. Well, she learned a lot about rabbits through that project and he was gifted to friends of ours when we moved. He is happy and healthy with a new family.
When we settled here in NC, Madison got right to work building herself a whole new rabbit operation. She didn't waste any time and when we had only been on our new land for one month she was ready to bring home new bunnies.
Madison drew up the plans based on research she had done and had dad help her build the three compartment cage for her breeding rabbits. She had a mishap with an unhealthy rabbit we purchased but ended up finding a replacement buck. Today we share with you Madison's Rex Rabbits!
Enjoy!

Whoo hoo Maddie! Way2Go on making that wonderful cage and getting bunnies. I have a buck bunny named Peanut who I believe is a Mini Rex. He was watching your video just now with me and seems to recognize your bunnies. It was so cute! They are all adorable. Sorry for the other male that didn't make it.

Good luck with your new project:))) Make sure to have something under to collect their manure, they say it's so good for the garden, can be used directly, without having to age. Have a happy, healthy, prosperous 2022:)))

To cool!!! Love rabbits... sold ours to OZ Farms... which ended up at Singlethred. Be sure there is 1” of space between the cages. Rumor is that they can breed through single wire... as always love your content!!! 😀

Just trying to catch up with your family. I ran across you from "Sow the Land". It's is very interesting watching from your journey from living in the RV in Oct to right after Christmas. You have come along way. Keep growing and I'll keep watching. I'm learning as you'll progress. Thanks for sharing.

Yes of course. Madison takes very good care of her rabbits. She learned through 4H, which if you aren’t familiar with the organization, 4H is very thorough in teaching children.

Please consider working with Madison to watch the old series about raising rabbits from the Living Traditions Channel. They do raise thier rabbits for meat but the care, conditions, breeding, kitting, and separating the rabbits are all the same. Living Traditions stopped doing rabbit for a while but are currently getting back into it complete with beginning a utube series. The new series woild be good to watch too but, you have the rabbits and should have some additional insight now.
