Most students and new graduates don't know the conventions and expectations of a professional finance resume. Candidates should focus on writing detailed bullet points, highlighting their technical work, and having strong formatting consistency. In this video, I am going to go edit the resume I used when recruiting for investment banking internships in my junior year. This resume includes all of my sophomore year experience.

Hey Matt I’m going into my first year at UWO with AEO and studying BMOS. My goals are to work in BB IB or EB IB then move into PE. Do IB recruiters care what you did in your first two years; should I switch to something like economics or cs to increase my chances or is there no real difference. Thanks!!

No real difference, I did BMOS and so did tons of other people. I think CS is the best double degree but if you only do first two years it doesn't really help.

For deals with undisclosed financials, is there a rule of thumb for how wide a range you should put for the transaction value, or would it be better to leave numbers off completely? E.g. for an $8bn deal, is $5-10bn too wide? Also, are you still offering resume reviews? Thanks!

If it's completely undisclosed, I'd just leave the number off and put "multi billion" or "large-cap", something else that communicates the magnitude. Nope, no more resume reviews!
Should there be a skills section?

I personally don't like a skills section unless you have truly differentiated skills, like coding or unique languages. I would also just have a bullet point for skills. Having a full section is going to take up too much space. I always roll my eyes if someone puts Microsoft Office or something very very common under skills. It's better to just pepper your bullet points with mentions of different software if you want to do that.
How would you approach writing a resume for a role with no prior finance/investing professional experience?

First thing is to try and get easy finance experience. Write articles for Seeking Alpha or join a finance club. Second, just try to think about the finance or business impact wherever possible. If you're at a startup, talk about the funding aspect. If you're in an operations role, try highlighting whatever software you used.

How would you approach building a resume for someone who already graduated college and only interned at 2 search funds. Didn't go to a big elite school. All of my applications are being rejected.
