This movie was my Empire Strikes Back growing up. It came out the summer I was about to start high school. I’d already been a big comic reader for most of my life, Batman was my favorite character and I loved Begins so I was already in the bag for this movie. Nothing could’ve prepared me for what was about to unfold though. I couldn’t believe what I was watching. Nolan took the thing I already loved and elevated it to another level. A perfect amalgamation of great filmmaking and comic book fantasy. After I saw this I started looking at films as more than just entertainment and really tried to analyze them. Im sure The Batman will be great and there will be other great Batman films but this one and this trilogy in general forever has a special place in my heart. Loving the re-watch series and the new channel, keep up the great work!

You just perfectly articulated my feelings regarding this movie and the Nolan trilogy in general. I was born in 1978 so naturally my GOAT franchises were Star Wars, Rocky movies, Donner’s Superman 1 & 2. Nolan’s trilogy is up there as my TOP contemporary comic book movies, even above ALL marvel movies

Some people thought that the Two Face character was rushed in the film but I disagree. Harvey clearly had psychological issues prior to his transformation into Two Face. The whole scene where he interrogates one of Joker's men highlights that. Also Harvey already didn't trust Gordon's unit because he knew they were corrupt. Even after losing Rachel and having his face burned, it wasn't until the Joker got in Harvey's head that the transformation was complete.

seeing TDK opening Thursday at 10pm with a packed crowd and terrible seats next to the EXIT sign is still my favourite movie going experience ever. TDK is my second favouirte movie of all time and second favourite comic book movie ( Black Panther holds the number one spot for many reason.) I bought a Heath joker poster in Oct of 2008 and he has watched over me as a sleep since then, it's nice knowing his close. I ended up seeing it in theaters 8 times, 4 of those since I worked at a dollar theater. Once I went while they were having Oscar runs in January, me and only two older men were in the theater watching it. That was a great trip too. 2008 is such a good year in movies. It makes me sad that we lost Heath so young. My heart goes out to his family and daughter. Very happy his work didn’t go unnoticed in this film, for me Heath Ledger and Mark Hamill have set the bar for the best Joker in live action and in animation, they’re both funny and terrifying simultaneously.

@@ChrisWoodburn83 aaron eckhart acting is one of the weakest parts of the movie. His turn as dent is rushed and doesn't have any weight to it. The chemistry between the new rachel and bruce and harvey doesn't feel believable. I hear the same thing all the time about the dark knight that ledger performance is incredible and the way it is shot. I think if you take ledgers joker out its just a mediocre action movie. The gordon death scene doesn't do anything for the story cause they reverse it a couple scenes later. The story is all over the place and some of the dialogue and conversations are cheesy but its written by a guy who's written alot of poorly recieved movies. Hahaha
Definitely my favorite of the Nolan Trilogy, and possibly my favorite Batman movie. I think what I like about the movie is that it doesn't *feel* like a superhero movie, or even a "traditional Batman" movie; it feels like a crime drama that just so happens to have Batman in it. While the movie expands the canvas a bit to focus more on Joker, Harvey Dent, and Gordon, at the end of it, it still feels like Batman is still the focus, and we get a sense of what he's lost, and how much he's had to sacrifice, just to stick to his convictions to ultimately prove Joker wrong about the human condition. I always maintained that even though the city of Gotham doesn't have that traditional Gothic look in these movies, I argue that Gotham feels more like an actual character, as through the characters like Gordon, Dent, and random citizens, we get a sense of what's at stake. What's had to be said about Ledger's performance as the Joker, has been said. It's GOAT status, period. While Ledger's performance is Joker rightfully takes the spotlight, I think Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent gets unfairly glossed over. He was a GREAT Harvey Dent, and did a great job of getting you to sympathize with him a bit. Comic Book fans know what's up, but I loved that his transformation into Two-Face wasn't just some going-through-the-superhero-story-motions plot point; his descent into villainy really feels tragic. By the time we've reached the end with him, Gordon and Batman confronting each other, it really is a sad moment. While Marvel has spoiled us with how much they embrace the comic-booky nature of these types of movies, I feel that "Dark Knight" is a unique animal. It really is gearing itself to be the opposite of what people expect from superhero stories/movies, but it still fees true to the characters that we've read about/watched in the original comics and other superhero stories. I love "Batman Begins", but this movie really does make it look more "standard issue", for lack of a better expression. "Begins" is the origin story, so I guess it's unfair.... but with the shackles of having to walk the audience through basics completely off, "The Dark Knight" feels like its exercising its creative freedom, and just going for it. It doesn't even feel the same in tone, as it just has a more visceral and unnerving quality. Fucking love this movie.

I remember going to Batman begins and Batman’s first fight scene he looked so fast compared to what I was expecting. We all jumped lol it had that Bourne quality to it with the sped up stuff at least compared to other action movies prior. Going back and watching those scenes now they aren’t nearly as fast feeling as every one does it now. But man do I remember loving the more visceral Batman fight style. Oh and the line from raz where he’s like you fought 8 prisoners we can teach you to engage 600 was badass. Like this is Batman’s peak if needed. He was trained to take on a village. By himself or Through force multiplying we don’t know …..

Definitely the best of the three. I think if I were to have any complaints about it it would probably be the hand-to-hand fighting not being visible enough and Christian Bale's Batman voice being hard to understand sometimes. As for Batman Begins, one issue I have with it is Ra's al Ghul not being Arabic as he is described in the comics. Also, the name Ra's al Ghul is Arabic for "the Demon's Head". The Arabic pronunciation for the first syllable is "rah-us". The character's creator however chose to use the Hebrew pronunciation "raysh" which is the one I was most familiar with from watching Batman the animated series growing up and I wish that's the one they had gone with.

I hear it a lot!
Pennyworth is my favourite comic-book show, I'm really happy it moved to HBO-Max so more people might check it out.

I can't wait to see The Batman on March 1st and I give it a very real possibility that it could dethrone The Dark Knight

The guy Joker said reminded him of his father at the party was a real life senator, not a producer. He's a big Batman fan and was also in BvS

In my opinion, the best iterations of Batman in media are the animated series from the 90s, Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy, and the Arkham games from Rocksteady. I hope Matt Reeves' movie will join that group. I hope you all talk about other amazing things about this movie other than Heath Ledger, because that's all everyone talks about. Very understandable, obviously.

I'm a little late to the party listening to these rewatches on Spotify, and for some reason I chose to listen to them backwards. Why?..I wish I knew.

This is one of those films that is so monumental that most people remember what was going on in their lives at the time. I was stationed in Okinawa for the AF and i still recall the line around the block on opening night which is unheard of at a base theater. You could tell everyone was into it. A great, classic film. Almost everything just works. Love the relationship of Batman, Gordon, and Dent. Bale is great...except the bat voice, especially in the final scene, but he really is fantastic in this film even though Ledger (rightly) gets most of the praise. I also think Eckhart is pitch perfect as Harvey. My only nitpicks are every line of dialogue uttered by cops/SWAT in this movie are so horribly campy and bad, i thought Nolan hired Bernard the Butler from Raimi's Spiderman films. I also wish they hadn't killed Dent off right away. Very small gripes with a genius film. Two years after this, Nolan would make his masterpiece, imo, Inception, and you can see that smart but fun blockbuster from Begins and TDK in its DNA. We need more Kristian, Winston, and Coy in the world right now. You guys make it a happier place to live.

P.S. Thank you, Coy for your Ledger rant. I never got the feeling he was an addict anyway, but when i looked into it, it hit me so hard, because i deal with anxiety and insomnia and when i saw what he took, i realized how desperate he was just to sleep, and how easily the same could have happened to me. Taken far too young.

Bale is a great actor but I don't know why he had to pick the throat-cancered voice as Batman in the Dark Knight, when his lower toned raspy voice in Batman Begins was better.
My only critiques for The Dark Knight is that their's an editing error in the garage scene when you see Batman for the first time and I do prefer Katie Holmes over Maggie Gyllenhaal
