Planned obsolescence!! Gotta love it!! Seriously though I wish there was more visibility about the absolutely horrendous maintenance aspects of some of this landscaping equipment. Shitty plastic parts that are designed to fail after a couple years and the replacement is damn %15 of the price of the original equipment. Shout out to John Deere for this, will never buy their equipment again. Thanks for this video, definitely gonna shoot it my wife's way lmao

I had the same issue and replaced I don't know how many wheels to the tune of about $25 apiece. Your advice about speed and height is sound. I would add - keep your turn radius wide, narrow turns cause the wheels to spin at significantly different speeds. Either way, it's my ex wife's problem now 🤣

Right?! The problem is they are all like that, pretty sure one factory is making them all and they just paint them different colors for the different brands. I have another video you might like that shows the capabilities of the Agrifab sweeper a bit more, definitely watch the picking up sticks part, it’s pretty cool. I like that Agrifab has a bunch of serviceable parts cause I’m hard on my tools, haha. kzread.info/dash/bejne/i6Oal5d-m7TPZ9I.html I should have links in the video description of the EXACT sweeper I’m using in the videos if you want more info. Solid unit overall, few things that could be better, I’ve had mine for many years.

@@suburbanacreage thank you! Turns out I won’t need those videos because I went to Lowe’s yesterday and they had the 44 inch Agra Fab. I bought it, brought it home and took a couple hours to assemble it using the very basic “diagram-only” instructions and put it right to use. I think it’s gonna be perfect for my needs!

If they used metal wheels they would also need to be lubricated or you would have to replace them as well at a much higher cost.

It’s not a great design but follow the tips at the end of the video to help keep them in good shape. I have a link to the exact wheels I used if you click on the video description. They were a perfect fit and while more expensive than I wanted them to be, I like products that fit right in and work perfectly.

Metal gears wouldn’t last forever. They could actually be a disaster. Plastic gears are supposed to be a fail point that protects everything else. I hit stuff with my self powered push mower wheels on full blast all of the time. Have spare gears on hand for this reason. It’s weird that the gear is molded into the wheel here instead of a separate part. But I suppose the plastic wheel is probably cheap enough and it saves Agri-Fab from stocking multiple parts.

@jhillmotorsports hey Jordan, I remember now. Did you see my box scraper video? I talked to Josh’s Green Garage and he recommended the one I bought. Josh is in Alaska, but the guy that builds them is in MN, small world. So I drove down and picked it up. You were trying to level an area for a play set I think, so it might not work as good as it does for driveways.

@@suburbanacreage yes I did, thanks for that! And you are correct... Ended up leveling the area manually with a leveling rake and a lot of sweat. My back wishes I invested in the box scraper! I'd recommend putting some heavy duty high temp grease to the wheel gears before reinstalling. With the height adjustment of the sweeper you've made, the grease should help you not melt the gears at moderate speed.

I noticed the fact that all of them have plastic gears, which helped me make the desision not to buy one. But now I want one anyway (kinda need one) I am looking at purchasing one again. Used ones more than likely have worn wheel gears so unless I get one cheap and replace the wheel shortly after ($70) I might just as well buy a new one.

That’s the problem, they’re all like that! Still amazing tools and if you follow the tips at the end of the video you can get more life out them. Drive slow, easy on the turns, and don’t set the brushes too low. I always try to scrape up acorns in the fall by setting the brushes down aggressively and it’s always a bad idea.

I like mine. I wish the wheels were made of rubber instead of plastic, There would be (I think) a lot less wheel dragging when the ground is not perfectly dry. Like in the Fall, when we use them. lol

Is there even a relationship between favorite and leaves? Okay, maybe the first day is fun with sweepers, blowers and rakes and seeing that beautiful green clean grass at the end. Only to wake up the next day to see it looks like you did nothing. It gets really old after about a month of repeat. However, to answer your question, I think for me this year what seemed to work best was combination of collecting with the rear baggers, raking out where I couldn't get close and sweeping seemed to get the chopped up branches that were left behind. I do think my favorite way ended up being to use the leaf blower though and I even tried a couple of different types of stationary mulches to clean up the piles afterwards. I think the snow we got here finally knocked the rest of the leaves off and when it melted, well, back to square one, hopefully this wind we now have will dry them out and blow them into piles for ne. That would be my ultimate favorite way!

Are you me? You’ve described my annual fall battle perfectly. Did those stationary mulchers work at all? I’ve seen them and wondered. I have woods I can blow leaves into so that seems easiest for me. Thanks for watching!

  • @canadiansparky64

The mulches work if you have patience. The first one I got has a metal flywheel with metal blades meant more for mulching twigs up to 1-1/2" and it will do dry leaves but the opening is about the size of your fist, I found that the old electric Toro blower/vac combo worked faster for mulching leaves but not so good for twigs. The second one is like an upside down weed whipper that handles a goid pitch fork size of leaves pretty well and reduced my enormous pile to large (25 gallon garbage can)? Of shredded leave fir mulch, but the twigs wear on the nylon string to about 1/2 length after one bucket and I was trying to separate what I could. The first one is a yard work brand at about $250.00 Canadian, the second was from Princess Auto here for about $80.00. My favorite way is probably to load them on the utility trailer and haul them to my 8 foot diameter Binford 2000 incinerator, lol. Back door from a steam boiler, just add some full size pallets, get er stoked and good bye wet leaves and branches of all sizes. I live in the country though so probably not allowed in the city.

  • @suburbanacreage

    @suburbanacreage

The wheels will lock and skid any time that the force to skid the wheels is less than the force to turn the brushes. With brushes in a super low setting like you’re using, it’s really hard to turn them so the wheels just lock. You can add tongue weight to remedy this problem, cinder block or bag of fert on the tongue of the sweeper. Just keep in mind this method puts stress on the gearing of the wheels and it can be a fast way to wreck them.

If your gears on the wheel are wearing out, you're going way too fast and your brushes are set too low. Those teeth are not made to be pulled at higher speeds (you found out why) And the metal gear WILL wear out also, but not the gear part. It will wear out inside where the slide pin engages onto the cogs. The cogs and pin actually wear out and need to be replaced eventually.

You are 100% correct! I mention those user tips towards the end of the video. Slow speed, easy on the turns, not too aggressive with the brush height and it’ll keep those gears working longer.
