Reviving The Beast: Porsche 911 Carrera First Start After Major Rebuild - Part 11

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Finally it's time for my Porsche 911 first start video. After an involved engine teardown and cylinder head rebuild this engine is ready to spin. I was tempted to start this engine on my Zalex test stand, but I decided to put it in the car right away. Unfortunately, I discovered a clogged fuel injector, but that won't be too hard to remedy. Thank you for watching this series.

    Congratulations, Tom. No matter how many times you build an engine, it never gets old... nothing duplicates - or replaces - that sound when it lights off the first time. Now, if rebuilding a four cylinder pushrod has become something you could do in your sleep, and the six-cylinder no longer presents a challenge, it's time to do a type 547, four cylinder, four-cam engine....

    Thank you! You send me a four cam and I'll do the videos 😀 I do have one more 616 engine to build for my 356.

    Looking after Your family (and yourself) is important, still it was fun to watch the engine running again. You must have spent a lot of time cleaning, polishing and painting the engine, it looks as if its brand new. Well done.

    Thanks for noticing the hard work on the engine. I didn't fully restore everything, but I did the easier stuff. I must say it does look good in there even with all the extra stuff Porsche cluttered these engines with.

    It's well known that the 3.2 motors are one of the most robust and reliable motors Porsche has ever made. I should know I have one in my 73 911 ;)

    Next time you have the motor out, put in a momentary switch to the starter circuit so you can crank it from the rear. Over in the left side is a good spot. Being able to crank and reach the throttle from the engine compartment make life easier sometimes.

    Thank you, she is determined to get back to her usual life and will be back soon! Good observation about the throttle body. It does leak on the throttle shaft, but I couldn't feel and play so I left it alone. It's on my list to keep an on it. The smoke is incredibly small and sneak through the tiniest of places. I did find a broken vacuum line under the car too! I love the smoke test machine.

    Can you run some test leads to that dead injector and do some quick taps on the battery posts to exercise it to bring it back to life? It's a Jag trick. Another classic car huh? Glad you finally bought a Jaguar! 🤣 Well done on the engine install.

    I have a little Matco fuel injector pulser that does the same thing you mentioned. It pulses very fast though. I ended up taking it out and pulsing it while in the ultrasonic cleaner and it started working perfectly again. Jag is a good guess always wanted one😀

    Any downside to leaving the plugs in, other that engine not spinning quite as fast. I am about to do this on my '88 and, as I recall, I did not remove the plugs when I rebuilt the engine 10 years ago. I have recently dropped the engine to replace the clutch components and ready to fire it up.

  • @GarageTimeAutoResto

    The only downside is more pressure on the bearings during oil pump prime. But if you didn't take the engine apart, then mostly likely a nice oil film still on the bearings. You could remove the ignition coil wire and at least prevent it from firing. That is where the combustion pressures really go up.

    If I recall correctly you were having an issue with the reference and speed sensors not being compatible with the flywheel. How did you resolve that issue?

  • @GarageTimeAutoResto

    @GarageTimeAutoResto

    3 ай бұрын

    Right, I had two issues with the flywheel sensors. The original speed sensor was corroded into its bracket and I damaged it getting it out. The new one fit just fine. The second issue was the aftermarket Patrick Motorsports lightweight flywheel had the mark sensor pin in the wrong place so I was concerned about the ignition timing accuracy. They agreed to take it back and have a look, but in the meantime I put the stock flywheel and clutch back in. This car doesn't really need a performance clutch package and my understanding is the clutch pedal feel is harder, so I will probably sell the patrick hardware to someone who wants it more than me.
