    This is still one of the best games i ever played it helped me learn to be oke with being alone irl. This was mainly because the game slows down life when you play it and you forget about the hectic experience and chaos outside. Its also the only game ever that made me 'feel' the cold and made me 'feel' the fear and hunger but also made me 'feel' relieved when at peace even when i was Dying if anything it made me help accept death IRL and helped my depression. I know im just speaking to the void and most wont understand it but if you do it's always nice to know your not alone ;)

    Great vid, for flares throw them when the wolf is already angry ( very rarely it doesnt work), the "factory" is a DAM, there is actually a lot of loot its just hidden. They updated the prepper caches now they spawn in specific locations now. If you plan your cards right you can have 45 kilos of carriyng capacity (moose hide satchel, technical backpack, well fed bonus), revolver is key!!

    If you use the red flares they will stop the wolf from attacking for some time but you need to keep them in your hand and face the wolf the whole time (same as being followed without the flare, this might not work if you have meat or guts on you). The blue one (military) can actually scare the wolf and destroy pack morale if you throw it at them (as well as shoot at them or similar). Fire is still one of the best ways to survive and is a valid method for hunting both bears and wolves... Flare gun is an instant kill for a wolf if hit in the head...

    @@YellowscorpionxIn the Ash Canyon, in the middle of the lake there is a house called Angels Den (this is also one of the valid locations to live in in this region), if you follow the river towards the falls (Broad Falls) there is a hobo stove to your right. When you see it, follow the path to the right and you will start climbing and will quickly reach the small lake. Follow the lake (watch out for doggies!!! There can be 2 of them). Follow the river and if you go straight, there is a cave in the cliff. Enter it and go to the other side. Once you exit the cave, you will see a wood bridge. Go over it and just keep going. You will then pass the second and third bridge (it is a curved path but it is basically top of the mountain so you can only go one way and cant get lost). There is a cave to your right where you can camp if you need to (this region is extremely cold and has low amounts of food, that is why I generally start my playthrough here XD ). On the left you will come to the crossing, go right (you will enter a cave that has a exit on the other side). If you follow the other exit to the cave, you will see a mine in the area below you. There is a place for the rope to be tied down so you can drop down. If you do not have the rope, you can go a bit further (around 100m) from the rock and find an one way pass to the bottom where the mine starts. Once you are down enter the mine, the gear is inside (including climbing gear that helps you climb ropes easier). Other side of the mine has two ropes so be prepared for that and sleep in the cave. A moose can spawn down there as well. Download the map from wiki and follow what I said, you will find it no problem. Also, Broad falls cave part is one of the most important routs since it opens a path to all the other houses in the area... Sorry for the long one, the path is a bit tricky...

    Best way to deal with wolves is carrying a torch/flare and then aim something at th wolf (can be just a stone). The wolf will charge but then get scared by the flare that you dropped at your feet. Also, you can cook any type of meat directly without a cooking pot. It just takes longer. Loved the video!

    Tips: -You don’t need a pot to cook meat, place it directly on the cooking slot. -coffee is a super valuable survival tool especially when making long treks -for faster travel use the sprint drift method ( sprint till you have 50% sprint left, walk for 20 seconds, repeat ) -always shoot bears on rocks, they have a hard time navigating. -scare off a wolf by using a flare then presssing 2 to equip a weapon -you don’t need a rope to get to the tower if you go behind the gas station there is a road that can lead there. -you also can’t use rope at the bottom of where you are trying to climb unless it was already placed up at the top. I love this game this was a very entertaining watch

    some tips. 1. The normal wolves you strungled with are easy to scare, simply keep a flare or a torch on at all times, when a wolf comes near/spots you ignite the flare/torch run towards wolf and throw the flare/torch. this will always scare the wolf soo long you arent over weight (dont run for long, just a 1 sec run to activate the animation then throw flare/torch) 2. Theres a path to the fire watch, it isnt a bad place it has a chance for a gun if I remember right. 3. Dont attack bears head on, in your case id wait in one of the fishing huts for the bear to get close, go outside to get it to attack me and sprint back inside, bears cant get in the fishing huts so you can get an easy headshot by doing that, but dont get too near the entrance. Another way is to climb one of those big fallen trees that you arent suposed to climb, its a bit dangerous as you could fall down or a blizzard might come but its worth it. 4. Dont haverst anything when damaged, if you get very low on hp just pop a stim and run for safety but always make sure to bandage your wound if you have one and disinfect it. Then eat and drink and sleep for a few hours, then if you can stay full on hunger and thirst sleep more, i wouldnt go out until fully healed but if you start running low on supplies go find a new place where you can get food and water. 5. When you get attacked and lets you have bleeding and infection risk, careful because choosing to use disinfectant on the bleeding does nothing, you have to choose the right injury to use the threatment on. 6. Dont be greedy, when you find yourself with a lot of loot far from home, just divide it into 2 or 3 or how many needed batches and bring once at a time, yeah i know its slow and boring but being over loaded puts you at danger. 7. If you ever play survival, I suggest you make bases with some supplies and especially leave some supplies on long trails that you use (just a little bit in case of an emergency, you can resupply them afterwards) tho this is for a long term game plan. 8. Life above resources, most people die because they didnt want to waste resources, those stimpacks, birch bark teas and accellators will be deleted when you die soo better use them while you can. 9. You can craft or find a moose hind statchel which gives +5 kg carrying capacity, theres the technical backpack i think it was called that gives another +5 kg and avoiding starvation gives +5kg (disclaimer: having 2 moose satchels wont stack the effect sadly, soo only make one) 10. Prioritize clothing and survival equipment, you can stack on food and water and fire material later on, but first you want to make sure you wont die while exploring and getting such items.

    My one tip to you - don't run back and forth between regions like this. You could create a "mini-base" in each region - leave supplies there, only take what you need now - don't have to travel with all of your stuff. especially back and forth. Sure you can come back. At some point, maybe even multiple times. But no point sticking to one base. What if you will travel to Forsaken Airfield or further? All this world is yours - means you have to distribute supplies, not hoard them in one remote location. *** Unless you want to make it a challenge; in this case - sure, go for it. There is no one right way to play, but some ways are definitely easier then other :)

    1. A nigh on foolproof method of avoiding wolf struggles (more effective than throwing your flare) is the torch and stone method. If a wolf begins to stalk you, light your torch or flare. Under most circumstances (proximity sensitive) this is enough to prevent them from charging and you can just keep walking with them on your tail if you don't mind and the flame is not in danger of being blown out. But for the purposes of getting the wolf to leave, now drop your torch in front of your feet and position yourself behind the torch exactly opposite from the wolf. Equip a stone. Now raise the stone and aim it at the wolf as if threatening to throw. The wolf will begin a charge. Steel yourself, and continue to aim and threaten. But do not throw, or lower the stone. Moments before the wolf reaches the fire in front of your feet, it will cower and leave. Choose torches first under favorable weather conditions. If the wind is bad, the flares will not blow out. Campfires will also work. In place of a stone, any ranged weapon will function as a substitute for this method. 2. If you are carrying meat or fresh guts, predators depending on their smell radius (which can be quite distant) and the direction the wind blows, will begin to walk in your direction. If they have not noticed you and begun their stalking state yet (accompanied by growls and foreboding music) dropping all your meat and guts should be able to lose their attention. Like a lightswitch, they just turn around and walk away. Guts are useful crafting materials. But I prefer to cook and leave meat at the campfire by the corpse it came from. It becomes a cache, securing routes for travel without needing to carry much food. If you absolutely must carry the meat or guts (like in the case here where you are trying to fulfill challenge food requirements) the torch and stone method should suffice to deter wolf attacks and can be repeated many times on the same torch if necessary. But the bear is not as easily dispatched. And I would recommend dumping your smells before it becomes a problem, which can be done quickly by using the "drop decoy" function repeatedly until there's nothing left, default as the 3 key on keyboard. 3. If you're going to try to take out a bear (or moose), you should understand that unless you are incredibly lucky, it is not likely to go down in one shot, and will charge. However, if you can interrupt the bear's pathing, by for example climbing up a dead tree trunk sticking in the air, or standing on a genuinely unreachable rockface, or inside an ice-fishing hut, or retreating inside a car, you should be able to land a shot, and avoid the charge. The bear will begin to bleed, and may flee. Provided the bear doesn't get an opportunity to despawn, which primarily occurs in blizzards, it will eventually bleed out and die. Then you can go search for the corpse. If in clear enough weather, it will be apparent by the crows flying overhead. Knowing the bear's regular patrol may be useful for the search. It may have resumed and died on its route, if it didn't die in flight. Unfortunately however, Moose do not die from bleeds. You will have to simply be patient and shoot them enough times to down them. 4. When butchering animals in the outdoors, it's best to have a lot of fuel for fire, hours upon hours, fuel for days. And if you can manage it, start the fire where it will be protected by a windbreak, so it won't blow out so easily, and also in heat range of the corpse. You will be protected from the cold. And thawing the corpse will be easier on your tools, depending. And in the case of something as large as a bear or a moose, it's advantageous to gradually expand the number of campfires as you can to accommodate more simultaneous steaks on the fire and get the job done more efficiently. Because otherwise and even if, the ordeal can become a multi-day task. And you're gonna need water too. Be sure to stay ahead of thirst by boiling a bunch of water.

  • @survivalhawkins
    @survivalhawkins6 ай бұрын

    Wolves won't approach you if you have a flare out. They'll just follow you but won't attack. Same with torches. Red flares for regular wolves. Blue flares for Timberwolves. Also you can't get climbing ropes to climb up. The rope either has to be there already or you need to find another way up, which there is another way to that tower if you go around to the other side up the hill.

    This game has 2 things that make it absolutely amazing. First is a rather simple one and its that loot doesnt respawn, this very simple mechanic(or rather the lack of it) make this a very unique survival game as the only other survival that does this that i know of is Project Zomboing. The second thing is that this game is indeed very punishing and unforgiving but always fair, never in my history of playing this game have i died to bad luck, only from my bad prior decisions. A single mistake in this game is rarely deadly, but making a second one often is. For example getting attacked by wolf almost always doesnt kill you(unless you made some prior bad decisions) but failing to treat the wound or going exploring in a weaken state may will probably kill you. Its also important to remember that the fact that you tried something stupid and did it successfuly doesnt mean that its a good idea. (I learned that the hard way on my 100 day save) :(

In your case you passed that fire tower on the way to the railroad out of the region.... Just needed to make a right-hand turn somewhere along that road up the mountain 3) this was very fun and well narrated. I hope you get to try again.

    the way the wolf fear mechanic works for regular wolves using flares to scare them off is like this. Wolves in TLD have 3 "modes" (1.passive- just roaming their spawn point) (2.stalking- they have noticed you and begin moving in closer at a walking speed and growling.) (3. chase- the wolf has began chasing you at a full sprint and will begin barking) in order to effectively scare away a pursuing wolf. you have to wait to throw your torch/flare/stone during the STALKING stage. if you do it in either of the other 2 it will do nothing, with the exception of if you actually hit the wolf. regardless of what mode it is in, hitting it with a thrown projectile will always deter it. Hope this helped.

    Use 1st fire to make travel water and a stack of torches. Food is pretty free when first visiting each zone and your weight is low at the beginning of a run so the more water the better. Use flares as a last resort during bad weather. Drop flare > aim stone = wolves run away. Doing this with torches that you carry with you is ideal as they are renewable. This method lets you travel even in blizzards on the hardest difficulty if you need to.

  • @holybakedbunslol3417

    The best strat with the wolfs is to have a flare or a torch (this one is better as it lets you to reignite it) and a rock. You light the torch and switch to a rock through a radial menu. Your character will drop the torch at his feet and you need to aim the rock at the wolf (no need to throw it). Wolf will run scared 100% of the time. One more thing. In survival mode (so to any other) experienced players collect torches from the campfire as much as possible, and switch them as soon as one go low, that way you save on matches to ignite it every time. Every torch from campfire takes about 15 min of burn time of the first one, so 1 hour equal to 3-4 torches.

    Avoided this game for years. Was put off by the art style and always thought i wouldn't be able to take the game seriously. Being in my 40s and being a gamer for many years I now tend to go for the realism look and tld always looked like a game aimed for the younger generation in the clips of it I saw but I can honestly say it's totally the opposite. Recently started the game on survival mode and after a few hours I am absolutely hooked. The art style almost becomes realistic due to the realism of the rest of the game and u really appreciate the uniqueness of it. I've never had a game that gave me such sense of feelings either like tld does. Just a simple example for instance., I was walking to escape a blizzard with hypothermia kicking in then found an abandoned cabin and Lit the log burner to warm up while still hearing the blizzard outside. It doesn't sound much but i could feel the warmth of that fire.. what im sayin is the game does an incredible job of making u actually feel the situation your in. The sound effects and music are incredible and really add to the immersion aswell. The exploration is also excellent and really makes u want to go further. I've now found myself boiling water and stocking up with food and sleep before leaving a safe building and going on a long trek just to see what equipment and places to explore i can find. It really makes u plan and prepare for your next trek. I also think the crafting mechanics are great there actually fairly basic which makes the whole experience less frustrating. I've played numerous survival games and some of them are so over the top they become a chore but this is very relaxed in that sense. I'm in day 9 on survival mode without death and I am absolutely loving it. Fantastic gaming experience 👌

    I play The Long Dark. Always pick up your bullet casing you can reuse them. Save the blue flares they're the only ones that work on Timber Wolves. You didn't need a cooking pot to cook food, could've done that right on the stove. Mystery lake was probably your best bet you should have stayed since it was a lower level area(not as hard), has fishing shacks for food, has plenty of workbenches, and a forge is just one region over. A good place to shoot bears from if ones nearby is a hunting stand, just lure in the bear and pop it in the head typically only takes one shot with the pistol to the head.

    Thanks for the video, it was very entertaining. The long dark is by far the best survival sandbox I've ever played, but it has its design flaws as well. The wind mechanic is a strange one throughout the gameplay, it almost always turns disadvantageous for the player. Killing wolves just to clean the area is pointless, since the game logic respawns them pretty quickly. If you have a wolf struggle and you can use a melee weapon, the wolf too will be wounded, and eventually die within ours, you don't have to follow it. (Which also means, wolves don't learn in the game. Wow.) What I've seen so far was, that in the easiest gameplay (Pilgrim) all the predators flee when they sense me, but in all the other gameplays (Voyageur, Stalker, Interloper) they attack, no matter what. It's unbalanced, so recently I've chosen to play Custom game mode, and the only change was to entirely disable wolves. And I really don't understand, that there are many houses without fireplace. Someone said once, that "The island was mainly for summer vacation, according to the game concept". Surely, that's why there are a lot of ice fishing huts in the game....

    flares work as long as they actually hit the wolf, if they are a bit too short and the wolf wasnt already agro, they will do very little, but if a wolf is on the other side of a flare growling and you have something to aim with, regardless if its a gun or a rock, just aim for a second and it will run away, but ONLY do this if you have a flare between you or you are at a fire or they will attack immediately!

    Not sure if it was for entrainement purpose of if really don't know the game but you died because you didn't eat and drink before going to sleep. If all your meter are ok (except fatigue obviously), you regain condition during your sleep, but if they are in the red you lose condition whether you're asleep or awake, 20% condition loss per hour for the warmth in the red, 2% condition loss for the thirst and 1% condition loss for hunger.. Looks like you had approximately 3 hours worth of thirst/hunger in the white, which means you may have regain like 4% condition... and then for the 9 remaining hour, you lost 27... and died. What you should have done is: sleep one hour for the immediate threat of dying of exhaustion (1% condition per hour also), then eat and drink and sleep the rest. Also the maps are now outdated, the prepper cache used to be randomly places, now they have a fixed place 1 per region but 75% of them are randomly empty. And finally, you didn't need the rope. You have to place the rope at the anchor point when you're at the top to climb down. If you're at the bottom of the climb, you can't use the rope. But they is a way if you follow the path. Good luck on you next trial.

    Hard to tell if how you died from cold/tiredness or if you did sleep fast enough you would have died from thirst or hunger. You should have done a 1 hour sleep. It would have been faster fixed cold/tiredness and food and water would have been fine. I die for the same reason though, hubris and greed. You did well for not having played in a while. The trick with wolves is drop the torch/flare and equip a rock and aim in at the wolf. Only one wolf will key on you at once so if there is a second, it will key on you once the first is scared. You can also just walk away and sometimes just walk away without torch (They will follow but is done right won't attack). Of the 4 status meter can have 1 in the red (As long as it isn't tiredness) and not freakout too much. 2 in the red means you need to go home. Don't let tiredness go red. It is just so many negatives. Carry coffee, energy drinks or stims in case you get too tired and find yourself in a jam. Always bring an Emergency Stim. You become super man for a minute or so. After it wears off you still get some extra health but will need to sleep immediately.

    Some tips: Shooting wolves close up will not guarantee that they run away, they can still fight you Dropping a light source by your feet (torches, flares, fire) and aiming with a weapon, even a rock, will cause wolves to run away Using matches to see in the dark isn't recommended, use a lantern or just look very hard😂 Picking up torches from a fire is very useful, torches are actually super helpful. They help fend off wolves, and help save matches During the aurora, wolves, bears, and mooses are very aggressive and unpredictable P.S. BEARS ARE RUTHELSS, but run like babies if you shoot them from afar, however they are really unpredictable

    Hatchets are useful, but for long term play, its all about collecting hundreds of sticks. No knife or hatchet needed and can still keep the fire going just fine. As for food, couple stones, crouch in front of a hopping bunny, when it gets close, hit it right in the face. Not hating, just sharing for any potential new players

    One of my favourite games... few tips never store food in a container itll ruin quicker, always make a campfire asap and pull torches grab stones.. if wolf approaches drop torch and aim rock at wolf... it will run away... you dont need a rope to climb to ranger tower you just walk there... you cant attach a rope from the ground up a cliff😂 you not indiana jones 😂...

  • @darkwillow1451
    @darkwillow14516 ай бұрын

    so.. advices: 1. NEVER throw your torch. Instead, press the weapon key, this will drop the torch at your feet. Let the wolf get close (he will stop close to you like a mexican standoff) but wont come nearer because they are afraid of fire. Now aim your weapon at him (rock, pistol, bow, rifle.. doesn't matter). he will 100% flee. That way you are not disarming yourself of your flare, and also you are saving ammo. DO NOT TRY THIS WITH BEARS or any animal during an Aurora. 2. You dont need a Pot to cook meat. You can just put it directly on the cooking spot where the pot goes. Grilled wolf meat.. yummy. 3. You cannot anchor a rope while being at the bottom. Ropes can only be deployed from the top. The watchout tower in C. Highway is accessible without a rope. just follow the roads up to it. 4. All animals except the moose dies from bleeding. One bullet is enough to kill. They ran off and die somewhere. 5. Try killing a bear while being on top of a place it cannot pathfind you . Like on top of a fallen tree, or a rock formation that he cant climb. Same for Moose. Else its basically guaranteed to be mauled since the Crit chance to insta-kill him is like... 25% max?

    I dont know about bears in north america, but dont they go into "wintersleep" at some point? The bear also looks like a black bear and those are "climbers" and smaller and would avoid humans, while brownbears and icebears are the type that messes you up if they're hungry?

  • @conStellarium

    @conStellarium

    6 ай бұрын

    this is true in real life, yes! black bears (north american ones included) usually go into hibernation for the winter months, i think that's the "wintersleep" you speak of. but there is an in-game explanation for unrealistic wildlife behavior; their natural behaviors are somehow disturbed by the same geomagnetic storms that prevent electricity from working. so the wolves and bears which would usually leave humans alone become irregularly aggressive in the world of The Long Dark. hope this helps! :)

  • @i-will-bite

    @@conStellarium @DreaMeRHoLic well, irl bears also sometimes break from hibernation too early (or barely enter it). I don't know English term for it but we call them "roaming" bears. It usually means that the poor thing didn't have enough food to have sufficient fat deposits to last winter. Roaming bears are very dangerous. I mean wouldn't you be when you are hungry and sleep-deprived?

  • @conStellarium

    @conStellarium

    6 ай бұрын

    @@i-will-bite this is an excellent point! in The Long Dark, the apocalypse event is an endless winter that gets progressively colder, so it's actually realistic that they're all awake--every bear would eventually run out of energy stores and be forced to break hibernation. And they would all be tired, hungry, and perhaps desperate enough to attack a human. ...still doesn't explain the wolves though, ahahaha.
