Zoolander was honestly my gateway doc. I get why people mistake a lot of the fashion icons featured in the film as other american celebrities, but that's just because they don't get the time in the lime light that they deserve.

Some British Designer documentaries I recommend, alongside McQueen, would be Westwood: Punk,Icon,Activist (2018) and Paul Smith: Gentleman Designer (2015) I think the juxtaposition of those 3 designers really helps map out some of the history of British fashion. As someone who doesn't really care for paul smith's worth I actually really liked the documentary and just hearing the way he works as a creative, compared to someone a lot more extreme like Alexander.
Alber & Lanvin by Loïc Prigent is an amazing snapshot of the last 48 hours to a fashion show

Loic has such great snapshots! I would love to see him deep dive even more
The Battle at Versailles documentary left out....American vs. Paris designers in 1978, including the advent of black models used in runway shows, documentary should be required viewing!
Watching the True Cost changed my life. It's one of those movies you never forget. If you watch any of these Documentary's, The True Cost is one to consider. You the customer are more powerful than you think, your money is power, be careful where you shop and support small businesses or invest in quality items that wont wear out as fast it really makes a big difference.
thank you so much Bliss!!!
Thank you!!! Great content in every video
I’ve been waiting for a video like this.
This video just kept me in the house for the next 2 days while I binge all these docu's...thaaank youuuuu!!!!
I was just binging all your videos and I got a notification for a new one ;)
Dries is single handedly the best fashion documentary of all time. I remembered taking a euro bus from Paris to Bruxelles just to see the film premiere because I didn't want to wait for a year or so before it became available in France (that was what had happened with Dior and I).
Fabulous video! I am confident that with your passion, talent, and breadth of knowledge about fashion, you’d create a documentary worthy to be compared to the ones you reviewed. I look forward to it! I was surprised to see the omission of a number of Loic Prigent documentaries such as the excellent Signe Chanel. Also, since you included Unzipped, Catwalk was another 90’s fashion video, which was my gateway drug into the world fashion.
Thank you so much for this breakdown
Hi Bliss, a great documentary about renown bespoke suit maker, Antonio Liverano: il Colori di Antonio. There is also the documentary if the Neapolitan bespoke masters: O'Mast. As you can tell, I'm into bespoke suit making! Even if you're not, it may give you an insight into his technically skilled these guys are and how neapolitans turned traditional suit making into something softer and more stylish. Great video and list of docs!
You’re a G for this sir.
Thank you for this Video! I will have hours to watch this weekend
Yves Saint Laurent : the life story of the man who re-imagined women’s fashion: Contains ; HIS LIFE & TIMES and. 5. AVENUE MARCEAU 75116 PARIS ( I own most of the fashion documentaries you mention ; this is a MUST . I look at it more than DRIES…. & I worship dries .)
There were some movies that I didn’t know because they haven’t been released in my country JAPAN. So thank you for introducing ☺️
Well, this creator gets it. Brava to young experts imparting a point of view and full understanding of the industry, craft, and it’s community. Full breath of fresh air. Xx
Bliss.... thank you so so much.
thanks so much!!! I don`t even know where to start. Now I got sooo much content to watch

Start anywhere! Watch as many as you can, wait a few months, then watch them all again!
Love all these! There was also “Baring It All: Inside New York Fashion Week”. However, I really wish there were more Fashion Business/Retail/Merchandising/Buying Documentaries in the world 🙁 I want to learn more about people like Ken Downing etc.
Great video! I would've also loved to see you mention the Halston documentary as well.
Bliss Foster I’m so glad I discovered you
Gia (1998) is a good one. Biopic of Gia Carangi. I personally don’t know too much on model culture, and after watching this I spent a week looking up everything about Gia and all other supermodels.
This is a goldmine! This is insane, I can't wait to get my paycheck so I can support you, not so much for the new content but for this as well I feel like I should be paying to watch this fantastic video!

That means so much to me, Ingrid 😊 thank you 🙏 🙏
Versaille '73 is literally the greatest documentary I've ever seen which. tells the tale of what may have been the greatest fashion show in history. Definitely a must watch!
Isaac Mizrahi is one of the few designers I knew of before I started watching a ton of Fashion KZread. I remember that he was on Project Runway for awhile, and also that there was a (set? line?) of Isaac Mizrahi tissue boxes.
Bliss, I discovered your channel a couple of days ago, and this is only the second video I've watched here, and I am subscribing to your Patreon. This is incredible content; thank you for making it. Looking forward to learning more.

Rarely do I ever watch a movie, let alone a documentary more than once. Now, it’s even rarer for me to try because of a movie. Watched McQueen 4 times already and cried every single time. Truly brilliant!
Yeah!!! You missed a really important one!!!! -- CATWALK
LOVE THIS
Another one I’d recommend which you didn’t mention is Celebration (2007) about the final shows of Yves Saint Laurent.

Catwalk is one of the best fashion documentaries. Portfolio is one from the 80s that is great.

Yes, thank you! Catwalk was my gateway video into the fashion world. Stylistically, it’s very similar to Unzipped (very 90’s), but better!
Huh. I was just googling ‘fashion documentaries’ 6 hrs ago & here you are.
my favorite doc is FASHION! by Olivier Nicklaus which includes Golden Eighties, ANTIFASHION and Go Global, i have the DVD and the Extras are magnificent!
Ty Bliss 😵💫
Don't forget about the YSL documentaries such as Celebration!!
I watched a doc about Zac Posen and it was great. He still lived at home with his mum in a New York apartment and he made all the clothes there. He didn't have a proper studio. I haven't finished the video so I don't know if you mention it here yet. Edit: you did- House of Z
Dapper Dan needs a documentary.
Model by Frederick Wiseman. Very detailed and granular look at a modelling agency in the 80s. Amazing doc
Great content as per usual. Please suggest/recommend sites (preferably free) where we can stream these documentaries. thx.

It’s tough to do that bc they’re constantly changing 😕 Just Google around, you’ll find em 🦾
Bliss, have you seen "Rick, Michele, and Scarlett" (dir. Jan Sharp)? An unorthodox fashion doc. It's available on YT.
Another one I would suggest is the Chanel episode of 7 Days Out on Netflix. I guess it’s not technically a “documentary” but I think it’s a really good look into the behind the scenes of a Chanel show production and really highlights the seamstresses in the Chanel ateliers.
Bergof Goodman is still in business
Hi Bliss 🎉, sooooo…. Instead of the movie McQueen ( which sadly really wasn’t so good) I would like to mention the documentary”McQueen and I”. Much more detailed and interesting (in my opinion 😊. That movie did for me the finale push to study and become a fashion designer 🕺🏻. You are doing magic by the way you work and describe and I love your channel so much. Thank you for that ❤
If you have BBCiplayer I found Cutting up Rough a 1997 McQueen documentary that follows Alexander Mcqueen doing both his own and the Givenchy collection. You see his process and he explains in his own words. Also in the same place Slate Julien Macdonald Similar format to the McQueen doc and speakx directly with the designer.
The best one is a BBC series from the 90's called The Look. It's on YT! Interviewees: EVERYONE. Armani, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Isaac Mizrahi, ISSEY MIYAKI, tons of fashion journalists... such a gem. Quote on New Yorks 7th avenue rag trade: "Whatever its designers artistic or cultural pretentions, the fashion industries amalgam of cheap labour and artisinal skill, serving planned obsolesence, makes it a paradigm of the workings of capitalism." Great stuff!
with love xo.. 2009 Coco before Chanel, *2013 Fabulous Fashionistas, 2013 House of Versace, 2007 Lagerfield Confidential, 2002 The legend of Leigh Bowery, 1983 Style Wars, *2007 The Secret World of Haute Couture, 2010 Ultrasuede in Search of Halston, 2011 McQueen and I Thank you for your list, I'll definitely be checking them out
did you ever get around to watching the manolo doc? highly recommend.
Heya, love the list and defo need to check some of these out. Ones that I watched and loved are: -Halston (2019 documentary by dogwoof) - obviously there is the netflix series, but this documentary is great! -Le jour d'avant (series by Loïc Prigent for ARTE): list of designers include (Fendi, Lanvin, JPG, and more). -Signe Chanel (another by Loïc Prigent) -Loïc Prigent's youtube channel (he has an amazing ability to make designers feel at ease around him and you get to see a range of labels from Marine Serre, Botter, Fendi and Chanel and many more) -L'amour Fou (the story of YSL) -The Editor's Eye (Vogue doc on editors past and present) -Westwood (tbh not in love with it but insightful) -Margiela AW20 process film (documented by Nick Knight and Showstudio team): interesting process film
McQueen and I, for me, eclipses the more recent McQueen, albeit they are both phenomenal. Great list though, and cheers for compiling.
RIP Iris, a rare bird indeed.
The Manolo documentary is one of my absolute favorites.
Is there a reason why paris is burning is listed in the description but isn't mentioned in the video?
Is 'Paris is burning' some kind of easter egg? It is the first documentary I noticed in the list but it is not in the video.
Where can i find these documentaries? There are only a few in torrent.

You should have national pride!! You have the Antwerp six, Martin, Demna went to school at the royal academy, and Jan Jan! There’s so much excellence that comes out of Belgium!
not a doc, but “The Phantom Thread” is a film about a director of a fashion house and his new lover and it’s a really slow-burning, but extremely beautiful movie!
Maybe also check out: 7 days out, there's an episode on Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld (rip) Phantom Thread, not really informative about fashion but still a really good film about a dressmaker
Don’t forget about the vivienne westwood one on prime!
Anyone know where I can watch Yohji Yamamoto: Dressmaker? Can I buy it somewhere?
Anyone got good suggestions for fashion movies? Like, I love “Who Are You, Polly Maggoo?” And “Prêt-à-Porter.” Sidenote: I think Maison Margiela is referenced at the end of Prêt-à-Porter.
Anyone know I can watch Yoji s Dressmaker in the UK? Also recommended the Vivienne Westwood documentary and the Ozwald Botang
Was anyone able to find Franca: Chaos and Creation? I have been searching for it everywhere for the last month and can’t find it anywhere.
Hi! where can I watch all these documenatries, I am from India and its not available on amazon prime or Netflix? how can I watch them?
Isaac Mizrahi 😆 I remember he did a Collab with Target and Oprah had him on her show promoting it. Yea I'm old
there is another doc on mcqueen called mcqueen and i, it's on youtube. I always kinda likes it more than the new mcqueen, probably bc i watched it first but yeah. Def worht watching.
hi guys anyone knows where can i watch any of these?

Idk if you'll read this comment but it's worth a shot. What would you recommend for someone who knows absolutely nothing about fashion? I started learning how to draw when the pandemic started and I think that learning about fashion will make me a better artist as I'm starting to come up with my own characters.
