For those who say the Canes don't show up at playoff time, this is why Canes fans love the playoffs. Win or lose, it is intense and interesting, and we have won our share of series in recent years. The Rangers have a strong team. Two more wins is still a huge challenge, but I am proud of the fight in this team. They really don't give up.

it's easy when the opposing team does not show up. Usually these Ranger skids last 5-7 games. It's possible a reverse sweep is in the making.

Rangers turtled in the 3rd and for the life of me I cannot understand why teams do that. The Rangers certainly aren't the only team to have done that against an opponent. Allowing any NHL team to do what they want for a full period is a recipe for disaster.

It says a lot about how well Shesterkin is playing AND how well the Hurricanes have been playing that everyone universally understands that, despite giving up 3, 3, 2, 4 and 3 goals in this series, Igor has been standing on his head. Big stat for the Canes tonight: 4 goals despite their top 4 forwards of the playoffs so far(Aho, Guentzel, Svechnikov and Jarvis) being held off the scoresheet completely. Their depth has finally woken up these past two games.

I’m not disappointed by the result. I’m disappointed because I thought the rangers would play with urgency and determination to close out the series. Instead, that was a nearly identical performance to when they got eliminated last postseason. The rangers’ defensive structure vanished entirely. Every Carolina goal was scored when multiple players were flatfooted and/or out of position. That was complete and utter choking if I have ever seen it. I could live with a 4-1 loss at home vs Carolina, had only the rangers even tried to make it look like they cared at all.

This was the first game in this series to not be decided by one goal. Also, the first I would almost consider a "blowout". Wow. What a 3rd period...Checking the app and seeing the Rangers up 1-0 going into the 3rd I thought; alright, well I guess this series ain't going to 6. Tuning in, I thought the Canes just looked done and was sure it'd end that way. And then old man Staal decides to just light the fire all by himself and score one of the nicest goals I've seen in a while. And just like that, suddenly Carolina came to life. 1-1 became 2-1 and then 3-1. Suddenly the Rangers' net was empty on a faceoff, something I didn't realize as I complained "Don't ice the damned puck again!" only to see it hit the empty cage for 4-1. Four unanswered goals in one period is almost an absurdity in a series that has been so close up until this. I'd say it's a statement, but who knows if this still just ends in Raleigh. I think, if you're New York, you MUST end this in Raleigh. Because I think if you let this go to 7, Carolina is winning it.

The reason why the comeback feels like it is possible here is because this has been a very close series. It could have been Car up 2-1 after the first 3 games. So not much changed in game 4 and Rangers lost in what was similar to the first 3 games. But now, in game 5, the Rangers looked flatfooted and not generating much of anything, especially in the 3rd period. All of a sudden, Car looked dominant. If the Rangers can't step their intensity back up, if they will continue to play defensively like they just need to hang on, and if they won't generate much, this could be a blowout for Car in the last 2 games.

Gonna be hard to do anything cause Fox's knee is only going to get worse. If Laviolette doesn't draw up a better game plan the Rangers will be stuck in their own end. Without Aho falling down and incredible faceoffs the first two periods this could have easily been 5-0. Rangers didn't even hit a post tonight.

@@brianowen4151 at some point we have to hold the “leadership” on this team accountable. The entire coaching staff was blown up after last year’s first round debacle (and rightfully so). But this core of Trouba/Mika/Kreider/Bread is on its third head coach, and they still can’t find a way to win after taking a 2-0/3-0 lead in the playoffs. It’s as if they get complacent with the lead, and when the other team pushes back, they panic. Fox is obviously dealing with knee issues and doesn’t look like his elite self, so I’ll concede that.

After taking a few breathers, I have faith Game 6 will be an amazing game for Mika and Panarin. They got two days to figure it out and with how they’ve played after losing streaks in the season, they always respond. That will be the determining factor if this team is for real or not.

That’s now 2 games in a row where they looked like the tired team at the end of the game.

If carolina wins Thursday, the Rangers may just be finished. gonna be a TON of news about giving up a 3-0 lead and getting reverse swept and it may be too much for the rangers and with Carolina’s home record, this very well may be going to 7. Nonetheless, LETS GO CANES!!

Embarrassing effort by NYR. Coasted through two periods. Lucky to get that shorthanded goal for the lead. Completely backed into a shell after that. Frustrating to watch. To have been 20 minutes away from a sweet and now heading back to CAR with only a 3-2 series lead… disappointing.
