Who cares? Seriously I’m not a Leafs fan but the Bruins scored with .1 seconds left in a game which was 2-0. That one goal makes absolutely no difference whatsoever and Woll should be given the shutout because he earned it. I would feel differently if the Bruins were only down by 1 or if it were tied but they were down by 2 so a goal with .1 seconds left DOES NOT MATTER.

Talking about the criticism, as an Avs fan watching the Jets fanbase do what they did, I honestly think its a culture thing. Canadian fans are different than US fans (mostly) in that they take hockey to a personal level. Everything is highly emotionally charged and usually pointed at a scapegoat, hence the targeting of individual players on the Leafs instead of say Pasternak on the Bruins. In the Avs/Jets series, I agree with Hellebuyck... he did play some of the best in his career but the Avs as a team were so strong. There are indeed times that a team loses simply because the other team was better and not because one single person sucked.

Sorry; I wrote my first comment before watching the review; so I'm glad Shannon and I are on the same wave length. Honestly; would not be at all surprised if Montgomery is fired even if they win game 7. The dude lost 5 straight elimination games, and the team has been SOOOO bad at the start, he's clearly not getting them ready to play. Back in 2010 when they got reverse-swept by the Flyers, they came back and swept the flyers right out the next year; so they learned their lesson the year before, and came out on the better end. Having blown 2 consecutive 3-1 series lead, thats a problem. Yes, boston needs the players that are getting paid to start doing something (Pasta, historically has been dreadful in the playoffs. Zacha has been straight 0s all series long, same with Coyle. When Trent Frederick is leading your team in goals in a playoff series...you have a problem. Also doesn't help they can't win face-offs to save their lives. Winning 35-ish % of the face-offs for the entire series is inexcusable

Could you imagine had Nylander not scored that breakaway goal and Boston would've tied it with ,01 seconds left. The entire city of Toronto woulda jumped off the CN tower led by Steve Dangle. As it is Toronto has what you need in the playoffs, a hot goalie. Woll's gonna take Toronto to the promise land.

It’s 2013. The Toronto Maple leafs are down 3-1 in a playoff series against the Boston Bruins. They win games 5 and 6 by a score of 2-1 off the backs of two great goaltending performances by James Reimer. They head back to Boston for game 7. Up 4-1 with 5 minutes left in the third, they blow the lead in one of the worst collapses in the last 20 years of sports, and lose the series in overtime. It’s 2024, the Toronto Maple Leafs are down 3-1 in a playoff series against the Boston Bruins. They win games 5 and 6 by a score of 2-1 off the backs of two great goaltending performances by Joseph Woll. They head back to Boston for game 7. The hockey gods have a prophecy to fulfill. The curse will be broken.

I can’t generate excitement for these guys when they play well because I know that in a game or 2 they will go through a 3-game bout of amnesia- they won’t know who they are or what they’re doing. At this point, wanting them to win this series feels like a vestigial emotion.

the reason why this series could be done is because the leafs unlocked the ingredient to beating boston. boston is an elite defensive team and they have elite goaltending. but they do not have anywhere near an elite offence. their 5 on 5 numbers are not good at all. so how do you break boston's elite team defensive structure? you're not going to do it going straight up against them. you have to induce boston into a high tempo up and down game. the leafs started to get much more aggressive with their defenceman in the offensive zone. they started pinching and supporting more. the defenceman started stepping up more. but the leaf forwards are covering the pinching defencemen, which has the added benefit of the leafs having a ton of motion going on on the ice also. now if the pinch doesn't work, but a forward is supporting the pincher, then you have a winger and defenceman back. boston would then try to counter and take advantage of the situation. however, if boston doesn't score on the ensuing rush, then they are probably going to have 1 or 2 guys stuck deep in the leafs zone and instead of 5 defenders (team defence), boston will only have 3 guys back, and now the leafs will counter bostons counter and up and down the ice they go. boston cannot win that sort of game against the leafs. the problem for the leafs is this: are they going to stick to this playstyle? this is a playstyle you use when your back is against the wall and you have nothing to lose. but this is how the leafs should always play. if you have an offensive team, then employ an offensive system and just go with it. through the first 4 games the leafs were trying to play a "responsible" game. the defenders were sagging off in the offensive zone and they were playing very conservatively. hopefully they will just go with this approach in game 7 and beyond if they win.
