Reviewed 2014 Lincoln MKZ AWD: Solid Luxury Sedan

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

If you read much of the enthusiast press when the Lincoln MKZ came out, you would have though that this was just another forgettable effort from Lincoln.
We came in to this review with pretty low expectations, not only in in reading other reviews, but also talking with other colleagues who'd driven that car.
Our experience was quite different, OK, maybe it's not the best in class, but it's a very solid effort, and very competitive if you are looking more on the luxury side than the Sports Sedan side of the ledger.

Own this model and year. Best car purchase of my entire life. Hands down. People are sleeping on this car. This kind of review is the product of modern society. Rather than show the product. “Look at me look at me” 🙄

One of the most beautiful cars Lincoln has ever made. One of the best cars on the market, albeit poorly marketed and susceptible to biased reviews. So WTF are we looking at salesman for 15 minutes?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?

Great, honest review. But for 15 minutes, we'd rather look at the car, not the driver. No offense ;)

The 3.7 MKZ is a joy to drive, and I love the design Lincoln as done to the car. Can't wait for the aftermarket accessories to catch up!

Thx for the review. Kinda down to the MKZ or the Lacrosse. Honestly it may come down to pricing for me. My main thing is AWD I live in the NE and definitely want to make sure I'm set for the winter weather. Moon/Sunroof is something I really like to but not necessarily a deal breaker. Which one do you think has better options along with the AWD. Again dont need fully loaded. Just want the most bang for the buck after I get my AWD.

Been looking at these and I can't find a strong case to buy this over the Regal GS awd, or even a Ecoboost fusion. After all the MKZ is a CD4 chassis which is the Fusion chassis, is available with the 2.0 Ecoboost and transmission from the Fusion, other Ford base parts, Focus stalks, dated center console, dated looking gear selection buttons, the Hazzard button randomly placed on the right side by itself. Put the MKZ side and rear body lines on the Fusion I'd buy one in a second. I can't stand the MKZ front end

Interesting comment as I have the same thoughts about this car. I like the lines of this car very much but the cheesy front grill and touch surface center console turns me off as well as the unusually narrow front seats.

Rudy F Ya, you can get a leftover 2014 Fusion Titanium with leather interior, awd, the ecoboost, etc for about $10k cheaper than a 2014 MKZ, and the Fusion looks better. You can buy the more powerful more luxurious, Buick Regal GS AWD, and have 270hp vs 220hp, huge Brembo brakes, nicer interior for the same price as a MKZ. Also to throw another zinger in you can get a Cadillac ATS Luxury 2.0t AWD cheaper than the MKZ and Regal GS. The ATS is probably the best in this segment.

I just don't understand why Ford/Lincoln think this MKZ is good enough to compete in the turbo, awd, luxury segment especially for $44k+. I never see these on the road and the dealers are swamped with them. That said if they offered huge incentives and a blow out price I'd buy one for that rear end alone in the Dune color.

kyle7300, l still love the shape of this MKZ over the Fusion, ATS and Regal except what I mentioned but I think there are incentives these days on the mkz if you check out the dealers. I was quoted 0% financing and 0 down w/ @ 399.00 mo. on leases the other day on one of these.

Really happy to see some one do a honest review of the MKZ I would like to ask 1 question its just totally based on ride quality, I want a luxury car to flow over bumps and poth holes just like its on Alladins carpet and the MKZ with CCD continuously controlled dampers claims to have achieved it In my opinion the BMW 3 series has the best ride quality after the Merc C Class, I let go off Japanese competition cuz I dont like them my question is is the Lincoln MKZ anyway near as good as the 3 series or the Merc C Class, I mean atlest 75% as good as a BMW or Merc, some reviews say its 90%+ as good as the Germans but I doubt their honesty, what do you think?

I have not been in the latest gen 3 Series, but I would say it's going to be smoother and less "sporty" than the BMW, and yes about 85-90% of the C Class Merc depending on some options. If you want the smoother ride don't go for the largest wheels with the shorter sidewalls.

Thanks for the reply, but I believe the MKZ is a FWD car with AWD traction only if it detects a slip and so basically its FWD, so if you have driven any Audi like the A4 orA6, which are FWD do you think its handling/ride/comforts is as good as Audis, just 2 know as a 3rd persons perspective, I drove the MKZ hybrid and for a FWD car it handled pretty darn good and in my mind better than an Audi A4

jandj Godwin I think the over refinement of the Audi's is better, the only current gen A4 I've driven was the allroad. I do prefer the Audi's over the Lincoln, the A6 really is the next size up in class and cost. The A4 is about to replaced so that will change the picture shortly. All that said, if you buy the Lincoln I think you'll be happy.

undefeated2012 sadly no, I happened to test drive the new 3 series and the new Audi a3 sedan and even though they were entry level cars they felt better, the 3 series was a gem 2 drive and was more comfy than MKZ and had better brakes and much more user friendly infotainment ,the car that was even more impressive is the Audi a3 sedan, its the cheapest Audi money can buy just 36k for a fully loaded a3 with AWD and with just 227 hp 2.0 turbo it was as fast as Lincoln MKZ 3.7l v6 ,the gearsgifts were much much more faster and it was a hoot to drive ,the MKZ felt heavy in comparison and ride comfort was easy match for MKZ, another surprise was space,Audi was as spacious as a Honda civic ,that's brilliant, still it looked small from outside and with my hard driving of around 40miles it averaged 28 mpg, much better than what MKZ turbo was able to deliver, Lincoln is a good brand but America is a generation behind Germans in terms of technology, comfort, luxury, power, effeciency, dynamics, etc,I felt Lincoln's effort pathetic, in front of even the cheapest Audi,I think American car industry has not grown enough to challenge Germans

Lets be honest the GERMANS win in all automotive fronts. Americans can still be Americans as the MKZ is but ill tell you that knowing the BMW's MB's and Audi's exist if you don't bring ride handleing and technology to the for front, I know a few brands that will readily take my money. Are Americans intelligent? Ok, then we should have cars that portray that and the MKZ is the first relatively relevant sedan from Lincoln in along time. Moving in the right direction just push the envelope into the mailbox, not under the rug. To compete you have to bring it, we know that so lets get the equation correct so that it appeals to more than my grandmother, because i love the looks but will i love ownership and getting from A-B as much as I would in my BMW. Realistically the German's hold the yardstick, and the Japanese are lost for the most part so why would anyone want to knock off a bad knock off? An aspiration intellectual car for American intellectuals, as opposed to geriatrics who like to pretend they still know what's good for America. We can compete in war but we can't compete in motoring?

all that i have to say is ,,this lincoln is still a inmature car for this times,,,germans brands are comfortable without sacrifice sport feeling, and of course styling is something natural in german brands...so if lincoln pretend built cars without put special atention to sport feeling for this times ,,,,lincoln is doom......cadillac is going by a good way with its cts v,,etc etc,,,,,,,,big brands like bentley and mercedez benz (s class),,are supercomfortable cars and very very competitive in sport performance.....i consider that is not a shame imitate good things ,,,if lincoln have to adquire the goods manners of the germans car builder in order to survive ,,,applause for lincoln..if not lincoln will built its own tomb..
