I played this game so dang much. Just ordered a PS2 and this and I can't wait to jump back in. It's one of my favorite games of all time.

I had gamecube as a kid & got this game at some point. I played it a lot. I think I was just mesmerized that something like this was actually on the gamecube. Pretty surprising that my mom bought this for me looking back actually.
The guy at the GameStop practically begged for me to buy this instead of GTA Vice City as a awkward 12 year old.. seems like a great game but Vice City practically changed my life, I absolutely adore that game even today and I’d say it’s what ignited my passion for all kinds of music regardless of the decade/style/genre.

i still love this game's soundtrack full of nu metal and rock from around the time. i'm a sucker for late 90s, early 2000s, nu metal, hard rock and hip hop

@KerrBox92 that taproot song in the game hits hard as hell when your in a story mission shootout! Haven't played the game in years, but I STILL remember having some awesome shootouts with taproot's poem blasting in the background! Man!🤘🏻😝🤘🏻 LOVE 90's and early 2000's Nu-metal!!!

This game is more interesting than Vice City i think
It's kind of messy but fun non the less, the shooting feels good and the melee fighting was miles ahead of gta or any other free roaming game at the time reallly. My mind was blown with the second one eventhough it was a slideshow it looked so good to me (ps2). And just like any other free roaming game that had driving that wasnt gta, the driving is nowhere near the aformentioned title. I also like that you where able to progress your character in power (if i remember correctly, like your aiming got better and you learned new moves I think). Edit: also, you can pick the game up for the price of a burger so that helps.

Certainly a lot of things to like.
Having a GameCube as a kid and always wanting a PS2 for GTA this game was a godsend for me at the time, I had a good free roaming game that had everything I wanted as a kid in 7th grade. This game got me into hip hop too and hand to hand combat. I loved this game mostly because we couldn't afford GTA (well a PS2 then GTA and my PC was crap at the time. As an adult, I have every game I wanted as a kid but depression happened and you know the rest. I wish I could enjoy games like I used to)

Really sorry to hear you went through a tough time. I've gone through similar stuff myself recently, but I still try to find the joy in the small things. Hope things get better for you.

The fighting parts wore on my thumb, but one of my favorite GTA style games.
This sounds right up my street. Looks like a load of fun, and I think my tolerance for these sort of games is broadly in line with yours. Plus, that cast is fantastic.

It gets real stupid by the end. The fun kind of stupid though.
Loved this game when it came out, I would actually take my time to find out the different paths you can take for the different endings. I didn't know they actually had a decent Hollywood cast for the voice overs. Terrific review as always.

I've played this game multiple time and didn't know about some of the voices either.
Mr Rater, did you know the Xbox version of Streets of LA has custom soundtrack support? I once free roamed with "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" by Wham. Such a cool feature.
This was actually a fav of mine at the time,as i adored the gta formula at the time. It has aged badly though, and only really the 'beat em up' part still plays well. Great style in this game though.

I was a lot more impressed by it back in the day, time hasn't been kind to it.
Great review as always, man. Might I suggest Warhammer 40k: Fire Warrior? I know others reviewed it already but I'd like to see your take on it.

I don't own that one yet but I'll keep an eye out for it.
Mr Rater, can you think about reviewing X-Men 2 Wolverine's Revenge sooner?
Fair review,I love this game despite its flaws. P.S Still waiting for that Headhunter review. :D

The reviews are chosen at random but the longer I make videos the higher chance it has as being chosen.
I hope you can continue and review Streets of New York, and also the original Getaway. You seem to often just choose to do a single game from a series.
To reference ColourShed, True Crime: Streets of L.A is very reminiscent of action movies of the early 2000's, which makes sense given the licenced soundtrack and voice cast involved, not to mention the bombastic action and cheesy one-lines that fits in this sort of thing. And like those movies of that era, it has plenty of issues, but it's charming all the same. Plus, it makes for a decent nostalgia trip for someone like me, a fan of the works of Jerry Bruckheimer, Joel Silver, and Neal H. Moritz.
Not a really but it's another nostalgic game that I have a lot of affection for.
I remember trying this but not really getting far into it. Sleeping Dogs - which started as True Crime Hong Kong - was one I really enjoyed though. Maybe a revisit is in order!

It's easy to give up on, especially with the game being as janky as it is at times.
Such a fun game back in the day, not anymore as much as i just don't like the controls anymore.

The controls feel backwards by today's standards.
I loved this game when it came out. Always wanted to play the sequel but never got the chance. I wonder if it holds up today though.

Man this was a great time when it released! I didn't notice any of these nitpicks in 03 tbh becauseit was 2003 what game didn'thave all of that, was it Vice City level? No. But it held it's own with Driver and other games as far as playability. This was one of the best games I played on PS2 throughout the console.
Will you review the original God of War, Red Dead Revolver, Gun, or Star Wars: Bounty Hunter?

Not on this channel sadly.
One I always wanted to try but never got to! There was so many "GTA Clones" around this time that piqued my interest.

For the price you can pick it up for it's worth a try.
I’m told Sleeping Dogs witch is sort of a tie in with this is good too. I’ve tried & didn’t get on with it, but like with a lot of games I bet if I gave it another go I would enjoy. Bet that one is the price of a bag of chips too. Thanks for the review 👍

Sleeping Dogs was a True Crime game that got cancelled and then reworked if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah i think i have different expectations for ps4 games (i played the ps4 version),wheras this game gets the nostalgia pass. Sleeping dogs plays like a 2005 game but it is still cool,i get that some people already habe nostalgia for sleeping dogs, but i missed it at the time. I think the driving is what killed it for me.
The technical issues not withstanding, the character models look and animate very well

Very impressive for the time.
It does look kinda average nowadays but 12 year old me at the time loved this game! I remember thinking 'wtf is going on' near the end when you go into that lava cave and fight the Chinese Dragon. It was so crazy and unrealistic/disjointed compared to the rest of the games tone but I didn't care anyway. Love your reviews mate. All the classics you review give me a good kick of nostalgia! 👍

I noticed on one of the other replies you say reviews are chosen at random. Just curious, how does that work then? Do you have a list of all games you own and randomly select one or does a randomiser choose through all games in existence then you buy it and review (under the assumption you capture from OG console hardware)?
@RetroGameRater
3 жыл бұрын
Every game I own from this generation has a number assigned to it and I use a randomiser to pick each review. I wanted to make sure that I didn't just pick the games that I wanted to play each week and kept things interesting for myself.

@@RetroGameRater That's a fair unbiased method. Thanks for letting me know. Looking forward to the next vid! Hope for you to cover some more obscure/hidden gems which I don't know about so I can get them for my collection 😄 Love collecting for this generation of gaming. Keep up the good work mate 👍🎮
Bro they should of added this on the Xbox backwards compatibility thing but sadly they ain't doing no more I think 🤔
This was a great game for its time for sure. Must have played through it 2/3 times.

Agreed.
When I was a kid, I thought this was such a cool game, but I was a dumb kid, who didn't get far in most games.. Then as a teenager, being nostalgic, I once decided to check it out again. I remember that, by the time I got to the worst ending, I was so frustrated and tired of this game, that I couldn't bother to try to get a better ending. And, while I don't remember much of the game, I still remember how I felt about it, and this has kept me away from this game for all these years.
