    I have this Bible and will use it in my prayer closet. I’m in the process of making it into a prayer Bible similar to the style popularized by The Sisterita Club KZread channel, only simplified.

    I have this Bible. As is often the case with Crossway, it is well designed and aesthetically pleasing given its relatively affordable price point. It is in a beautiful blue hardback and the paper is decently opaque albeit a bit thinner than I'd like, but again it's good for the price. I especially like that the ESV Prayer Bible can serve as a kind of reader's Bible so long as you don't mind the prayers of well known Christians throughout church history interwoven throughout the text. It is single column and all black text. The chapter and verse numbers are present but they're largely unobtrusive. I'd say it's more or less on par with the ESV Reader's Bible - especially now that the ESV Reader's Bible no longer offers red accents throughout the text as it originally did and which was a nice touch, but instead it is now plain black text all throughout which to my eyes isn't as nice, and since the ESV Reader's Bible is more expensive now (I originally bought it for around $20 but now it's nearly double that price and without the red accents). The benefit of the ESV Prayer Bible over the ESV Reader's Bible to me is that it can double as a reader's Bible but one where you can still reference verses and the paper seems slightly more opaque to me. Just my two cents' worth which is probably all it's worth. 😊

    The version I have of a Prayer Bible is the NKJV Prayer Bible, printed by Thomas Nelson. I like it, and enjoy the NKJV because of its poetic language. I have tabbed out a few Bibles in the style of a few creative Bible journalers and had fun doing that. The prayer resource I mostly use is Bible Promises by Crossway, with verses and scriptures easy to look up for inspiration. I can easily look up a theme and relevant scriptures. I enjoy your channel, thank you for the resources you discuss it is helpful.

    I wish they publish a Personal Discipline bible in the way of the 12 step program Serenity prayer guide. That will be amazing because that is the biggest need today where people are in need of meditation, self control, self discipline. That is more practical and real than collection of some roman catholic random prayers.

    You might want to check out Tyndale's Life Recovery Bible. I have a copy based on the NLT, but I understand that there's also a KJV edition. It includes devotional material and study material based on a 12 step program and also includes material relating to the serenity prayer.

    @@richardvoogd3012 thank you. I watched a review of that amazing bible and posted a comment, I'm copying it here for this context. It's not just for alcoholics and drug addicts but mental health is in decline for all. Adhd meds are out of stock for 3 yrs globally. Do write to Crossway and other publishers to launch similar books. Look at the boom of meditation, mindfulness training videos, podcast industry. Andrew Huberman etc. This is perfect. I was hoping something that covers the biggest need for today. Adhd is on the rise and all are addicted to phones etc. It's not just about AA Program but for all. If you can try to find out whether a bible deals with the topic of sin and righteousness then do find those references in all ur reviews bec many bibles may come with the gnostic faith alone lawlessness doctrine background which finds excuses to justify sin and suppress guilt conscience, turning sin and righteousness nominal and fake, the exact opposite of truth and what were looking for. So do find those crucial study notes on 1john 3 and 5 and Peter:s epistles to check if they faithfully represent the biblical doctrines or do they twist Paul's few words for our destruction. Remember Luther openly encouraged sinning. In his letter to Jerome he advices drinking more and sinning more by befriending satan.

    You might think about the ancient (Catholic) practice of lectio divina (prayerful reading of scripture) rather than taking a swipe at "random" prayers. Try grappling with the Divine Office (Liturgy of the Hours), which puts into practice the biblical injunction to pray seven times daily, particularly by praying the psalter or the many canticles taken from the Old and New Testaments; or try praying the Collect (opening prayer) from the Mass of the day, which leads to the three or four scriptural readings given for each Mass. Random? I don't think so.

    @@richardvoogd3012 thanks my previous comment somehow got hidden. It's a perfect bible edition. Doesn't matter if it's NLT. I watched a review video and it's amazing. It's for all the Xians not just for alcohol and drug addiction. Do write to other publishers to encourage them to launch the similar ones on self discipline, mindfulness etc on the theme of serenity. I advice all reviewers to focus on 1 john 3 and all those areas where the study bibles may be misguiding towards licentiousness or faith alone by making sin and righteousness nominal and fake, the exact opposite of truth and what we want. Martin Luther in his letter to Jerome encouraged befriending the devil, and to drink even more. His whole life was dedicated to licentiousness lawlessness by gnostic revival.

    I have a question: I have a question: I have read in PEW research survey that 65% of US population identifies as Christian. However, what is the actual number of practicing Christians, it can't be more than a third of total US population? In Europe (including Russia), half of population still identifies as Christian, but less than 20% of population can be considered practicing Christian.

    It seems like a good option for someone who wants a single-column ESV but can't justify spending money on one when they have a perfectly good two-column ESV on the shelf already. "But look! It also has prayers from famous Christians in it! It's not redundant at all!" I would be tempted on those grounds, but I probably have enough ESVs (and NRSVs, which are essentially the same translation most of the time) for one lifetime.

    I supppose you haven't reviewed the NABRE Bible. Plz try to get it if you can. Its liberal critical study notes are very antagonistic to laymen, but for those interested, they are amazingly helpful as this bible is the only one which presents critical notes as opposed to the typocal study notes on history, details, theology, cross ref that we see in all study bibles.

Both the translation and the study bible come from the catholic scholarly community of the academic side which is very close to protestanism in theology and you cannot find any catholic bias or doctrine in it. Its purely academic. The name is quite countr productive as it scares non catholics.

  • @Strongtower

    @Strongtower

    4 ай бұрын

    Hellos brother. Luke never wrote "our father which art in heaven". Our earliest manuscript evidence shows that was not original to Luke. We first see that reading in Luke from manuscripts from the 5th century and onward. A scribe likely tried to harmonize the prayer from Matthew 6:9 and Luke 11:2. So it's not that the verse was removed, but that the verse was added. We should want to read what Luke wrote, not what someone added to the text.

    Wow! Protestants discover the ancient practice of lectio divina (prayerful reading of and meditation on scripture). Sorry, I know that sounds patronising. Different traditions can learn from each other.
