Review of NESCO Vacuum Sealer VS-12 with blueberries

Reviewing the Nesco vacuum sealer model VS-12 deluxe. I will be using fresh picked blueberries to demonstrate the sealer.
I am not getting paid by NESCO to review this product. I am showing how it works, what I like about it & how to use when freezing fresh picked blueberries.
I purchased this item off of Amazon. I do not have a paid link.
This is however, the Amazon link to this vacuum sealer: www.amazon.com/VS-12-Deluxe-S...
Rating by my 4 out of 5 stars. There is a bit of a learning curve with this machine. You will see in the video that I first followed the instructions for fruit, but after a few attempts off camera, I figured out how to get the bag to seal all the way across.
Positives: bag size- can get a variety of widths.
Straight forward operation
Easy to store
Reasonable price for value of the machine.
Bags last in the freezer
Offers a gentle setting for fresh fruit and other soft items that would get crushed under normal vacuum sealing
Negatives:
Learning curve for sealing products
Instruction booklet give general advice- have to test each time you seal a different item(fruit, veggies, meat, marinated items, etc)
Bags to replace original set included in kit are a bit different( texture) - could not find replacement bags from nesco.
All in all, for our homestead, we recommend this vacuum sealer based on what we are using to freeze for this winter. Items include: fruit, carrots, potatoes, corn, squashes & sweet potatoes.
As stated in video: We have not tried on meat nor marinades. Can not speak to those items for this vacuum sealer. I do like the option of being able to get meat in bulk & bag it for the winter though!
As always, Thanks for watching!

As others have mentioned, because the berries were wet, it was sucking the wetness into the seal area causing a poor seal. Three things you could do to alleviate that. 1) dry the berries before vacuum sealing them. 2) Wash them well, dry them, freeze them on a cookie sheet, then vacuum seal them. 3) dry them off and vacuum seal them using the double seal.

There is a double seal option.....and the red button can stop the suction if your berries are being crushed.

Thanks for writing in these tips! I believe comments before you have mentioned the same about double seal. According to the directions, I used gentle as seen in video. Great tip about the red button.

Your berries are pretty wet, and that moisture is getting into the seal area, that is why it did not seal well. Put it on double seal and see if that helps you.

I did eventually do that with the berries. Also, dried up the channel after every bag even if just a bit of water with other produce. Thanks!

After putting in the berries, you can get a napkin and wipe the bag in the area of the seal then put it in the machine. That has worked for me.

I have this exact model, and just as some of the folks have mentioned in regards to sealing. I have mine set on the double seal for everything. It's just a nice feature, and I ask myself, "Why not use it on all vacuum sealed food?" Thank you for your review.

It does. As stated in another comment, I found it after the video was made. My blueberries were also still a bit wet and that also attributed to me doing the seal twice. Since the video, have done carrots, corn, beans and hamburger. Works great.

Why don’t you use the double seal instead of sealing it twice? It seems like the double seal option was made for exactly the issue you are having with your first seal.

Thanks for putting the tip out there for everyone. I was going by the instructions recommended by manufacturer. I do double seal, dry berries on paper towel before processing. I just wanted to put up a video that went by manufacturer directions to show the process of figuring out this vacuum sealer.
