as someone who plays destiny, the design and accuracy of how it looks is insane, and i love that they kept the reloading as accurate as possible, and happy lightfall launch day to all the guardians in the comments!

FYI in game, the Gjallarhorn shoots a rocket that splits into a bunch of little homing rockets on impact so this blaster being a "shotgun" is actually kinda accurate for nerf

Fun fact: there’s an ornament for the Gjallarhorn called the “Gjallarfoam” which replaces the original weapon texture to the Nerf gun texture and is loaded with Elite Missiles

It looks amazing, but you’d think with as big as it is they could fit some more power into in, that performance is really anti-climactic

I know what you mean, but they clearly wanted this to be more of a novelty display piece. Knowing how much they were changing, it would be prohibitively expensive if they built it for profirmance.

I'm willing to be that the positioning of the priming handle makes getting any kind of mechanical advantage difficult; probably wanted to make sure that it'd work well enough for anyone, especially those who don't use dart blasters that much

Blame Hasbro's lawyers, they're very risk adverse. Though those air holes in the shells suggest it's actually pretty powerful, so I suspect block those holes or brassing the barrels in each shell will yield much higher performance. Also 6 elite/half dart shells are a definite possibility. Main issue is the price, as that gets in the way of modders getting their hands on it.

@@bdeamon1 It's $180! Is that not expensive enough to warrant decent performance? They could have made it good but that's not what Hasbro are about. Modders exist because Hasbro ( NERF ) make blasters that perform terribly. Thankfully we don't need to give them our money anymore because other companies are making awesome blasters at reasonable prices.

@@ihave7sacks it's priced that way BECAUSE of the fact that it is a collboration with Bungie for D2. Very few care that this doesn't perform well. Any fan of the game series see this thing as pure novelty and the shell + mechanics alone with Nerf and D2's branding will warrant that kinda price. If you care so much about performance, you're looking at the wrong thing.

the reason the load/reload system seems kinda of clunky or cumbersome is because Nerf attempted to keep the loading system almost the exact same as in the game. Considering they had to design a whole new mechanism to try and keep this blaster as close to the in-game gun, I think they did a pretty good job. Although I do agree the giant tube should be detachable

Damn that thing is nearly to scale to the actual Gjallarhorn With so much space, I could def see someone mod this thing to fit a absolutely bonkers spring to like propel the darts at like 200 FPS Maybe even add a custom shell to fit Rival or Hyper Rounds to add even more of that wolfpack rounds feeling they seemingly went for

The problem with mega blasters is that a lot of them have gears, and upping spring load too much can break the gears. Slight upgrades & singling the shells would give it more power without stressing gears too much

fun fact: the in-game weapon can be equipped with an ornament that reskins it to look exactly like the nerf version. when you reload it, your character loads in a demolisher missile.

It doesn’t look exact. It was literally the 1st thing I noticed when I got mine and suspected they wouldn’t be able to being 2 different companies. Nerf has been around for a long time and a well respected brand. Bungie would’ve had to have their approval for the ornament to be exact, plus the Nerf logo being on it in-game wouldn’t make a lot of sense.

One thing that bothers me with prop toys is that they rarely come painted to look like in the game, but something cool with this blaster is that it comes with a code to insert into Destiny to make the Gjallahorn look like the toy in-game, so they made it in reverse xd

Such a cool looking blaster. Still a bit sad to see how Nerf has completely dropped Mega XL, and the fact there's only 3 elite darts in that massive shell is a bit weird. They could've have easily put 4 or 5, maybe even six. Though if it has something to do with the pressure system I could understand. Still great

I'm not planning on getting this blaster, but I do kind of wish that the Trilogy shell geometry would have worked out for someone to make a shell so I could shoot MegaXL from my ShellStrike, so somebody with a 3D printer is bound to have that thought about this blaster.

The shotgun functionality is meant to try an emulate the weapons' in-game abilities. Gjallarhorn is an 'Exotic' weapon, meaning it has additional abilities that make it stand out from other weapons. In this case, Gjallarhorn had the perk "wolfpack rounds" which means that after the main rocket is launched and makes impact, a series of small tracking rockets will break off and either deal additional hits to the enemy it impacted, or will seek out other nearby enemies

Only Destiny Players will know how op this weapon was back in the days of OG Destiny 1

played D1 since beta, but left the Game after Cayde-6 death, i felt like the story wasnt as good anymore so i stopped playing but man, i remember the ol' D1 days, cheating the last boss on Vault of Glass by throwing Atheon of the map where the days, i might get back to D2 with this new expansion but i'll have to look what is new to see if it is worth for me

​@@BaS12241they glassed several locations, removing the original story, and many campaigns and even weapons are locked behind a paywall.

The near 1:1 sizing makes me wonder about possible modifications for such. Imagine stuffing the internals of the now defunct big bad titan into this and turning it into an actual foam missile launcher… Either way, this is pretty much a display piece that I’ll eventually paint to look more like the proper launcher in game lol

On the launch day of Lightfall, no less! I gotta say Coop, you often mention the "emotional response" one gets from using a particular blaster. As a D2 diehard, that has put over 3200 hours into the game, holding this blaster for the first time, was a surreal experience. The emotional response of this majestic behemoth was beautiful. I couldn't help giggling while holding it. What a fun blaster for the D2 Diehards.

The in-game Gjallarhorn fires four rockets, so it makes sense for it to be a shotgun style blaster.

The amount of mod potential in a blaster that large is insane

Frank, as a Destiny player, it *is* to scale, and it works just like the launcher in-game, reload-wise. Sure, dart performance stinks, but that's not what I got it for. I wanted to have a physical Gjallarhorn blaster in my home. I freaking love it.

So glad I checked this video out! I’ve barely used my Nerf Gjallarhorn, but decided to test/check it again but without loading because I have nowhere to really use it….. I almost panicked thinking a spring or something was stuck in the top part because I could swear once you fire it was supposed to spring/slide forward, maybe I’m wrong there from the looks of it instead of having to push it to open the ammo latch. Man when I 1st tried it out I thought I broke the dumb ammo cover/door off. You’re a life saver, man! Only come complaint I have like my Iron Gjallarhorn replica is the fact that the scope only sits on 2 side and I’m a lefty, this fires right armed.

Knowing how big coop's hands are, this thing is massive. He complains about a small grip every other video, and JESUS THIS THIS IS HUGE

Hey, coop. Even though I don't buy or use nerf guns anymore I still enjoy watching your reviews. I recently received my Gjallarhorn and being a avid destiny player this thing is awesome. Your review was spot on although I don't have the cutting issue you seemed to have. And to your point of no stand I really wish a $185 blaster would come with two double-A's. But, in all it's just so cool of a blaster I'll be taking it to comicon in a few weeks and potentially painting it down the line. I've seen some people already making 3D print files for new cartridges too. Final note: the battery cover does fall off, a lot a lot.

He should do 420 dart challenge with this!

Very fair review! Couple troubleshooting things as someone who's been playing around with this thing a lot. For getting out the shell, gravity is your friend. If you're in grass or on carpet or just not scared of dropping them, tipping the 90 degrees backward when the flap is open will dump the empty shell out. Improves reload time a lot and also feels very cool. Second, even though the tube and handle aren't meant to be removable, if you file she sharp edges on the tabs to rounded ones, those pieces are fairly easy to remove for storage. Not really things that make the blaster better at base, but some fun... yeah, i guess coping strategies :/

Released on the day of Lightfall. I think that's super neat.

8:48 I've learned from experience with mine, using gloves actually helps relieve some of the discomfort when holding the blaster with only one hand while reloading, but it is tiresome in the arm with how heavy the blaster is. But as a player who does have the Gjallarhorn in the game, it is definitely a well-made replica of the Rocket Launcher, and it definitely was worth it. My version of it seems to be a bit different compared to yours, it seems like the mega darts do a little better than the elite darts to me, and I haven't had any issues with the battery cover plate falling off, nor the wobblieness of the priming handle.

One hint to prop people that are into painting and are willing to disassemble: a coat of mirror-effect liquid chrome followed by a coat of clear gloss yellow on those ornamented parts. The result will be wonderful, Trust me.

Love to see the mod potential for this. Stick a much stronger spring to launch those darts further.

This blaster may seem underwhelming to most people, but as a destiny fan I felt like it is a masterpiece of a blaster. Almost everything about the rocket launcher is an exact 1:1 scale of the rocket launcher in the game and it's crazy how they even got the loading system in there. I wanted this thing bad enough to the point where I spent literal hours unlocking the Gjallarhorn in game so I could preorder the nerf gun

Everyone remembers Crota's End D1 with this on Crota at the end. Good times.

Honestly impressed with how well nerf executed the breach loading system, hopefully this becomes an extended partnership between bungie and hasbro, would love to se a version of thunderlord or dead mans tale

I know this this is massive and would be difficult to store no matter what, but the rear tube and front grip really should have been made to be removable for storage and packing if you are moving. I feel like the front grip has the potential to get snapped off during shipping.

I've got one of these and I can't wait to paint it either.

Im just amazed that the literal rocket launcher tie in blaster wasnt made to be able to fire rockets too. The shotgun blast does sorta-kinda mimic the "wolf pack rounds" in the game -- but it needs a rocket!

interesting, i didn’t have that issue with the battery cover piece on my unit. The grip definitely needed some practical changes from hasbro though, the blaster is stunningly accurate to in-game appearance but the grip just sucks and it being more comfortable is more important. Also, the pulling the shells out is fairly annoying, yeah. I wish they had gotten the spring-open-jump thing that they have on the Sledgefire i think, or one of the other Hasbro shell blasters, so you could easily grab on inside the cavity.

Three mods instantly come to mind. First small spring for shell ejecting. Second improved power spring, of course. Third cut Bay for in tube insert spring, instant shell Carrier.

Man, I love this thing and Destiny as a whole, I’m super bummed I couldn’t get my hands on it, it just looks sooo cool and fun

just a tip, a single piece of tape was able to fix the scope cover in two seconds flat. it's also not like you're gonna be changing them any time soon anyway

With spring upgrade mods it can be cool as a similar use as the rhinofire, set down, behind cover.

Odd, I have the blaster myself and I haven’t had the cover plate pop off yet. Fantastic video though! I always look forward to these.

Coop! Let gravity do the work! I've had mine for about a day now and if you just tip the blaster forward after firing, the entire slide moves forward on its own and a spring mechanism ejects the shell slightly so that it's easier to retrieve from the breach! And for as cool as this thing is, as somebody who DOES play the game... the grip is a nightmare for how heavy the blaster is

So expensive then you gotta put hot glue to keep it together and I can throw foam darts farther than it shoots. Hasslebro😂

This thing is huge. Dunno anything about Destiny but I see this as a very viable cosplay prop stand-in for a rocket launcher. Looks a lot like a MANPADS actually. They could've given this thing a stronger spring honestly since it's just so massive

While a paint job would like nice, I feel like this needs an electroplating chrome to look the best. I would love to see this replaced with a massive air cylinder, an electric bike pump to fill that stuffed in the rear, and a door that opens AND closes with the priming slide. A mega XL shell or demolisher shell would be bonus. It should've at least come with the gold chrome already, considering it's primarily a collectors item.

They could have gave it multiple different shells. The shotgun shells are a nice feature and it was cool they attempted with mega but since it is a rocket launcher anyways they could have gave it shells to shoot a single mega xl dart or a rocket. This would really improve its performance too I’m sure. Perhaps a shotgun blast of rival rounds would have been cool too. I imagine there’s all sorts of air leaks in its mechanisms as well. Hopefully modders can do something with it.

Fascinating that your scope guard comes off. Mine is pretty held secure and requires a bit of force to take off. Maybe a small piece of tape could help your problem?

I’ve got one sitting on my mantle next to my other 3d printed destiny guns. Two gripes with this blaster, I NEED a stand and I need a plug kit for the screw holes. I want to display my Gjallarhorn with the scope out but every screw hole is in there.

I got one of these bad boys and I'm really happy with it. Not competitive for nerf because its just way too dang big and does not shoot great, but as someone who plays Destiny it's pretty epic.

Thats a nice and reasonable video. As a destiny player i can say it is up to scale and like the ingame version. Well the ingame version has 2 shots in the mag

I’d say that the blaster isn’t really made for active nerf combat situations, it’s more of a novelty purchase for fans of the game (such as myself lmao). If you’re looking for something that’s good for play, this won’t be for you. There are just countless better options. But if you’re a collector, or a fan of the game, it’s definitely a cool blaster to have.

For the price, and something that was clearly aimed to either prop people or young adults I think there are a few missteps on top of whats already been discussed. One of them being a missed opportunity to at least have a sound effect when firing. It would have made more sense to have tow of each shells, or instead just have more firing power so that the Mega's could go at least 30ft without falling.

When we get 9-rival round 3d printed shells and a way to fully eject shells (via mod) this thing will be top-tier.

Something else, the out of box mega dart shells are vented to the nines, I bought a modded shell that ISN'T vented and has a tighter fit on the darts, and it makes it work twice as good. I think it puts it on par with the elite or slightly less range, dunno, haven't had a non windy day to go test the new shell.

It's very cool how reloading the nerf gun is pretty much the same how the weapon reloads ingame

With how much space it has, I wonder if I could easily modify it to fit a Titan air tank. Sure, it wouldn’t make it any more war worthy, but it would give it more missile launcher like performance.

with that big stock you would think it would auto-load the shells after you load the stock (which would act as a mag) it would be wayyyy better with that
