Review: Hitman 2

Ойындар

Fifteen minutes of me gushing over why Hitman 2 (2018) (also can be called Hitman 2016 2, Hitman 2016 Season 2, Hitman 2016 Volume 2, Hitman 2016 2 Electric Boogaloo. Note: not to be confused with Hitman 2 2002) may be the best Georgegame since Smart Ball.
Apologies for the editing errors at 14:15. I did like half of this editing on bullet trains in Japan, so I'm not surprised some mistakes were made :(
Hitman 2 can be aquired cheaply here: www.gamebillet.com/hitman-2?a...
For new players, I reccomend starting with that cheap Hitman 2 code, plus the "GOTY Legacy Pack" which can be acquired here: store.steampowered.com/app/86...

    What a ridiculous title for a ridiculous video. Of course it's not historically accurate, it's a fictional video game universe with magic and Darth Vader. We don't need this unnecessary baggage shoved down out throats! That's just my personal opinion, though. I am very smart.

    "Best worst selling game of the year" is the most depressing thing I've heard in awhile. I've bought Hitman 2 on PC and XB1 and between the two with the new levels and replaying the older levels up to 20/20 Mastery, I've got well over 100 hours into the game. One huge improvement that I wonder if people notice is the voice work. Of course David Bateson is always perfect as 47, but in the previous game they seemed to recycle the same few voice actors, which doesn't work in a game that takes place in locations around the world. It's odd to hear a character that's clearly meant to be a native speaker of another language speaking English with no accent. This makes it feel like a B movie. In the new levels, it seems they took this into account. Small detail, but it makes a difference.

  • @TheOrangeMatty

    @TheOrangeMatty

    5 жыл бұрын

    The older Hitman games like Contracts, Silent Assassin etc also had good voice work in terms of how their accent was and also they spoke in their native language as well which made it more immersive in my opinion... I have no idea why Hitman 2016 didn't have native voice actors...

  • @SuperSamGalaxy

    @SuperSamGalaxy

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@TheOrangeMatty Agreed. My guess is they had a small budget for voice work in the last game and were only able to hire a few voice actors to play all the parts, but it really gave the game a cheap feel. Being in the middle of Marrakesh, for example, and hearing everyone around you speaking English as their native language, is offputting because it's unrealistic.

    One of the things I love about Hitman 2016 and Hitman 2 is how sort of old fashioned they are. They're just unapologetically gamey-ass games that are all about the mechanics, with a huge focus on replayability. They have no pretense of realism (or of philosophical depth), with story placed firmly down the list after gameplay. This is also one of the things that made me love Metal Gear Solid V so much, despite being a longtime fan of the series and actually being invested in the story.

    I was actually wishing they would add a difficulty setting above Master. Something where leaving bloodstains on walls, or empty clips on the ground would count against your "professionalism". It's probably too niche, but with as much accessibility as they've added, it would be cool to see them tackle the more nuanced approaches by acknowledging these little details. Blood money had that newspaper gimmick. Which, while barely implemented into that game, was still (imo) a move in a really interesting direction. I want each level to end with a couple of gumshoes going over the scene of the crime with a fine tooth comb, picking out every piece of leftover evidence and trying to build a case.

    @@AidanCooperSolomon It is indeed a travesty. I think the series lacks the kind of mass appeal that you get with a hero like Snake. 47 is perfect for the series, but he's a bit of a hard sell to general audiences. The story in Hitman is also difficult to get excited about, even for fans of the actual game. There's no marketable FarCry-eske bad guy to focus on, or even a generic high stakes save the world kind of affair. I don't mind this at all, but I think people who don't realize how good the gameplay is might not be swayed by these lackluster external factors.

Listening to the wealthy and powerful candidly chat in a party about how they've destroyed the earth for profit and then became environmentalists at the eleventh hour for good PR and now are buying secret bunkers to survive the impending apocalypse they caused while the rest of the world rots to death is the most efficient vertical slice of "fuck rich people" ever. It put the messed up situation of climate change into perspective in a blunt way that really stuck with me. The 2016 game with the secret virus laboratory and rogue militia ready to destabilize governments gave me similar feelings of being uncomfortable with unchecked power, but Isle of Sgail takes the cake.

    Like you, I have always loved stealth and I knew you’d be a HITMAN fan. I have long loved having 47 as an avatar of the kind of assassin you would want to be. I initially play like Vincent from Collateral and just adapt however i can. And then I love to play as a “target only, suit only” assassin. This and Splinter Cell (another franchise I have throughly enjoyed) should be way more recognisable and demanded by the general gaming public. Splinter Cell could be another Mission Impossible film franchise if managed correctly.

I don't know why they couldn't just add all that stuff into the normal game instead of relying on servers thst will inevitably shutdown.

    Thanks for giving this the exposure it deserves. So many reviewers have just been calling it "Hitman 2016 expansion pack" but they're either completely missing the point of this game, or aren't playing it right, or just aren't the right audience for this type of game. The levels are designed for replayability, for REAL. No other game puts this much effort into smart/clever level design where you have so many alternate routes and paths and so many sectioned off or cordoned off areas that can only be accessed with the right disguise. Heck, I was discovering hidden areas in a level on my 9th or 10th playthrough when I was pretty sure I had the entire map memorized. We all loved Sapienza and Hokkaido from Hitman 2016, but every level in Hitman 2 meets that quality bar and sometimes goes beyond it. It's honestly shocking how they managed to pull off a game so well. IO Interactive knows this genre and their audience so well.

I'm not a fan of the episodic design of these games, but Hitman has always been one of my favorite series of all times. The time sensitive missions in Hitman 2016 will unfortunately be something I missed out on, but I would rather have one long playthrough of the game than spend time waiting between the episodes. It's just how I prefer to play my games. Good to see that Hitman 2 seems to improve on everything the first in this reboot series did, and maybe by the time I finish the first game this one will be nearly complete.

    @DensetsuVII5 жыл бұрын

    Okay so I've never played a Hitman game. I'm not huge on stealth but George's depictions are always compelling and I do enjoy the environment design I've seen. I had completely forgotten this game was out after seeing some demos near E3. And every time someone talks about it or I see an article about it I need to spend time figuring out if they're talking about the new game or the older. And after all the debacles with DLC in the last game, I wasn't even sure whether I could get this entire game in one purchase (which, as a newcomer, still entails a high asking price for a game I'm not sure I'll enjoy). Or given this review, whether I should be getting the first one as well? The point? In some ways, it really doesn't matter how much this series appeals to fans; its already niche audience appears to have shrunk with the DLC debacles that do the double duty of making it confusing to newcomers who want to try the game. The gameplay, I'm sure, may be much more accessible than ever. The game however, looks like it is not. The fact that he needs to spend 2 minutes at the end explaining how to get into it, in a way that... to be honest, I'm just too stupid to understand. I'm not a stealth gamer. I'm borderline on whether I'd enjoy this. So having to know which edition to buy and knowing I'll still end up spending what equates to 4 good indie titles to see if I'll like it? I feel like a lot of potential buyers went through this thought process and maybe concluded as I do that... I'm not sure I can justify buying it. I dunno, just wanted to share that opinion *shrug

    Your video for the previous game sold me on the last game, along with IO changing it to one package you could buy once after not touching the series since Silent Assassin. It was a fantastic experience and Sapienza is one of the best levels in a stealth game i've played this gen no question. I was eager for this but then 'episodic, but not really' and 'always online, but only kind of' and 'repeating missions from the last game' and with so many games to play right now i was okay after hearing it to let it sit. Sounds like many did the same which is a shame but its kind of on IO really. They already sold everyone who tried the last one on the gameplay and design. They just needed to sell the product and this looks like a swing and a miss. But this video does make me wonder what George thinks of Forbidden Siren. I know he's not really a horror guy if his channel can attest but those games are an exploratory puzzle game really and it feels like 2 in particular has sections that scratch that same itch i got in Hitman 2016.

I understand the cuts to animated cut scenes. Bums me out but i get it. Especially after all the ip and publisher stuff, what a story of victory in the face of defeat.
