Thanks, you got me pulling out a game I already own. I backed this on Kickstarter, and was a bit underwhelmed. I think I was expecting Muskets and Tomahawks, and I didn't see the simple elegance just playing it solitaire. Now that you showed me how it works with 2 proper players, I'll give it a go.

Irregulars were indian (both sides), ranger (english side only) and coureurs des bois (French side. And that's a challenge for Grant to said it loud and live 😄. ) At the time of this war the equivalent of Medal of Honor in France were the Croix de l'ordre de Saint Louis and Croix de l'ordre du Saint Esprit. So you can give your Compagnie franche de la Marine (the real name of Marine unit) and your milita pips those crosses (well to the noble officers as the simple soldiers weren't really given those distinctions)

This game plays best with the optional simultaneous written orders rule, I find. Adds a lot of tension and gamesmanship.

While we didn't fully play that way, we love hidden movement games and feel that you are correct in that it will create another level of intrigue.

You mentioned solo play. How is that possible with "hidden" block images?

I think simply. You would just blindly setup the opponent and not know what they have until you attack them or they move into your space and attack you. I don't think that we are saying it is fool proof but it can definitely work.

Great review! Looks awesome. I am thinking of a French-Indian war game to get, that has to be fairly quick and not too complex, but still thematic. This looks like a good candidate for me. Do you know any good F-I war game for 3 players, that is a 1.5 h max? Thank you.

For 3 players, I'm not sure, but check out 1754 from Academy Games

Wilderness Empires is another block game covering the war by Worthington, and it plays three ( British, French, Indian). Not sure if still in stock anywhere though.

Has anyone played this and Quebec 1759 by Columbia? I’m wondering how they compare. I heard Columbia will kickstart a “deluxe” reprint of Quebec 1759.

It does seem really similar to 1812 & Siege of Quebec doesn't it?

F&IW is an excellent “weeknight” lite family wargame.
