Hey Grant, great video. There is a separate GMT CDG solo bot you can get. Also on BGG someone’s listed the cards so that there is early, mid and late war events. I’ve yet to play this too, but it looks fantastic! All the best!

Hey Grant, I think 2nd edition refers to the GMT edition (and changes made for that), I believe the 1st edition is the Avalon Hill version. I think the 2024 (25th Anniversary) is the 2nd Edition - 4th Printing, only the box seems to have changed....

Thanks Grant! I cut my teeth on the old Avalon Hill version and have loved it ever since. I held off on the p500 as it didn't look like much added value if you had the game. But seeing the updated map board, player aids and 3" box I am starting to have regrets! Definitely might have to grab the upgrade kit for this one

I considered purchasing even just the new board and box but ultimately decided against it...for now. I am perfectly happy with the mounted map I have now and my gameplay is mostly on Vassal anyway. Maybe I will purchase at a later time, I don't know.

Actually it's just one shared deck for both sides just packed in four decks because there are 130 cards. So you mix 'em all up and play off one deck for the whole game, no "early war" or "mid war" events here.

FtP and PoG are wildly different games. But looking at development from a chronological perspective then you can see how PoG came after. It has multiple decks that you digest in 3 goes (mobilization, limited, total) which is so much better than FtP's huge deck. I love FtP but I won't say no to buying some sort of 'upgrade kit' that is just about the cards. FtP shines in the relationship between the cards OPS value and the generals rating. Other than that the cards does not add as much value as it does in other games. Now don't get me wrong I love FtP and that it is a CDG. But the deck itself is one of the weaker parts of it. How the map, the generals, the components on the map all come together tough... the feeling of that makes me hungry to play it again!

Is it possible to play this game in one day? (realistically, not number from box). I previously looked toward The US Civil War, but playing for 2-3 days is too long for me. And in complexity - which is harder? I have experience with Paths of Glory - is it much harder?

3 hours, takes much longer. Im not sure if I got it right, you dont divide the cards in separate eras, all of the cards are mixed togheter. Its not like twilight struggle. Very fun game but I do struggle with the rules.

The riverine rules are a little tough to get one's' head around but the rest of it you just need to play it over and over to get the hang of it.

The cards are what’s turning me away from this game. It remind’s a bit of A House Divided and I really enjoy that old game but I’m too set in my ways, I have a hard time dealing with cards in these type of games. I am old Imsuppose 😊
