They are absolutely INCREDIBLE. IMO one of the best Epi's ever made, and right on par with any Gibson I've tried. It's amazing how much Epi stepped their game up. This modern is almost a perfect guitar. The ebony board, the real maple top on top the mahogany, the locking tuners, the probuckers sound awesome, the coil splitting, the CTS pots, the asymmetrical neck....it's just super spec'd out for the cost.

I picked up a Magma Fade from Sweetwater in January and had them Plek the neck. I then moded it with gold knobs with brushed gold inserts, and Gibson cream pick up rings. Unbelievable guitar! The neck seems to be intuitive, almost teaching me to use it in ways I hadn’t thought of before. Love this LP. I don’t even pick up my 2002 Gibson LP Special any more.

I bought the blueberry fade finish, and I had Sweetwater set it up to my specs. After a little tinkering of my own and some clear, speed knobs, I love it. Some people don't like the coil splitting feature, but since I write and record all different genres, it's perfect. Best affordable guitar I've ever owned.

Awesome playing, man. I recently got a Epi Les Paul Custom in Koa from Sweetwater, for $699. It's insane. I looked over every inch of it, not a single flaw could I find. I own a Gibson LP Standard; it has the same heft , feel, quality, sound. My Epi came with the action set perfectly, and I didnt even pay for a set up. Other reviewers basically said if you blindfolded them and put the Epi LP Custom or a Gibson LP custom in their hands to play, they could not tell the difference. Maybe it's a slight exaggeration, but if you're just an average Joe guitar hacker like me, I have no doubt its true. It literally looks, feels, and sounds like a Gibson, and for 700 bucks, its just an insane value.

  • @BigChuck525

Jimmy you were right on about it being a great guitar for someone who maybe doesn't quite know he/she wants. I got the faded Pelham blue for my son about 8 months ago. He's still in love with it. He had been playing acoustic for a couple of years but not much electric. The coil splits can get him close to the single coil sound and help him figure out what he likes. That Sweetwater exclusive is sharp. Being painted front and back makes it look more modern than the regular Epi moderns that have the brown wood grain on back. He has small hands and loves the carved heal joint.

My 'Sparkling Burgundy' Epiphone Les Paul Modern sits right next to my Epiphone '60s Les Paul Standard on the wall hangers! I got it mainly for all the extras like the Probuckers, locking tuners, and neck joint carve. I also got it because I'm an old dude and a big fan of The Cars. I've been listening to them since 1978! Their lead guitarist, Elliot Easton, played a beautiful red Les Paul. So, I got to like the color - next to my Boston-inspired Goldtops, that is! This guitar got me addicted to locking tuners. 😎🎸👍

I believe Ace Frehley did the same thing on his own to his first (Tobacco Burst) Les Paul that he played with KISS from 1974-1978 - before he switched fully to his 3 pickup Les Paul Custom (with only the BRIDGE pickup hooked up, of course! haha!).

@@jimmyfranklin Ace carved it out himself. I can't remember what specific year he did it, though. So, it was your basic, run-of-the-mill, Les Paul Standard. Ace modified it. He never used the bridge pickup. So, it was a fake that was set up to where he could push it in, and it would ignite the smoke bomb inside. And, voila, smoking guitar! There's a video on KZread where a guy got to actually play Ace's actual modded Les Paul. I wouldn't imagine you have links allowed on your channel in the comments. So, I'll paste the title of the vid. It's FASCINATING! And, beware, the title is in all caps! "ACE FREHLEY'S ORIGINAL 1973 GIBSON LES PAUL X WALT GRACE VINTAGE". Just had one arrive after being out of stock for a while. It plays way out of its league for a $650 guitar. I spend about two hours with it and was impressed enough to email my rep at SW and tell him how my low expectations for a Chinese-made Epiphone were ridiculously exceeded. It will be a great play out instrument that I’m not worried about getting scratched or damaged in normal usage.

Hey, Jimmy. Any comments on the frets? After a few hours of playing, my skin softens up and my fingers begin hanging up on the rather sharp leading/trailing edges of the frets. I play 10's tuned to B flat and I think that the reduced tension makes this problem even more noticeable, even when playing with the lightest touch possible.

And I said to myself, better save the $700. Because when there's guys who play like you, there is NO POINT to guys like me putting out that money when we'll NEVER get anywhere close to your playing. Kind of ironic, that a video that ostensibly is made to encourage buying that amazing axe, ends up hurling a bucket of ice water. Your playing is pretty damn amazing.
