Review Demo - Sire Guitars Marcus Miller V7

Музыка

Read the review: bit.ly/SireMarcusMiller
Marcus Miller knows a thing or two about Jazz basses. So when Sire Guitars set out to create a J-style line, they consulted with the respected player to assist in the design and development. The goal was to create a well-crafted instrument with a heavy dose of inspiration from the classic J-style formula, yet with some modern enhancements. It also had to be financially feasible for just about any player. Could Sire achieve all this to stand out amidst a crowded field of J-style basses? Short answer: Yes.
Like Miller’s cherished ’77 Fender Jazz, the Sire V7 oozes timeless style. The body of our V7 test bass was carved from swamp ash, dressed in a beautiful tobacco-sunburst finish, and topped with an ivory pearl pickguard that adds decorative flair. (Alder construction and other finishes are available.) The one-piece hard-maple neck supports a maple fretboard that’s adorned with pearloid-block inlays and a natural-bone nut. While 3-bolt necks were commonly used on mid-to-late ’70s Fender J basses, Sire opted for a standard 4-bolt joint.
The Sire V7’s electronics package mixes tradition and today’s technology. The Marcus Super Jazz pickups are made with fiber bobbins, alnico 5 magnets, and heavy formvar wire to replicate classic J-style tone. Miller’s input inspired the Marcus Heritage-3 18V preamp that has a sweepable-mid EQ stack in a 3-band package, and a main-tone control that also works in active mode.
The V7’s hardware is quite nice for an instrument in this price range. Sire and Miller came up with an excellent high-mass bridge that combines simplicity, stability, and string-through capability. The open-gear tuners felt solid and instilled confidence that they could handle string tension over time.

Easily the best bang for the buck bass ever made. I even like my V7 5 string better than all the American made fenders + a lot of sandbergs.

3 piece body like the fender Japan. The source of body ash will be the reason it's a bit heavier but for price who complaining. She and Marcus have done a great thing for new players.

Considering it is an affordable bass, maybe it would be an idea to play it through an affordable amp? for those who maybe looking for a bass and amp on a limited budget.

The problem with jazz basses for me has always been the weight. Most are so damn heavy they are even uncomfortable to play sitting down. I finally found a Lakland skyline 44-60 custom that weighs in at 8.9lbs and i'm super happy with it. I know fender aerodyne is a bit lighter but the sharp edges are a bit uncomfortable for me but it is a nice bass. Many people feel if the bass is light weight it's cheap but that is just nonsense. Where are the ultra light jazz basses and why are they not being made?

my v7 out of the box. action i could fly a plane under , rough fret ends and intonation was out.. sounds amazing but being blunt its horrible to play even after set up cant get the action low without a lot of fret buzz.. and i have a light touch... its a really nice instrument visually but if this is the standard iam not impressed at all... truss rod works well but does not fix the issues ...

Hmm , maybe i got lucky but my 5 string version of this bass weighs in at 9.6 lb, less than my 10.4 lb Musicman Stingray 5, to me this bass is light! And I play it mostly passive because its got a killer tone in passive mode. When I want a little extra oomph , I'll switch to active to access a wide variety of tones! The Sire v7 bass is the best in it's class IMHO, for the longest time I was lusting over the Lakland DJ 5 , then this bass came along and I couldn't be happier! Just a fraction of the cost of the Lakland! Sire you have a fan for life!

+Nikolaj Haun Hansen It's funny though, some alder bodies are ridiculously light, then you get others that are ridiculously heavy. Alder is a very inconsistent wood, but it's good and sturdy.

Every guitar should string through the body. It makes for much more solid resonance and tone. Every string through guitar I've ever played, always sounds and feels better than top mount guitars. The only time it shouldn't be string through, is with a tremolo.

@Steve Cook, Here's another of your reviews that in my opinion fell a little short of the mark. I say another because, I saw your review on the Mesa Boogie Subway 800. Where you used a Fender P-Bass. I thought it was the amp amp,but no it was your adjusting of the amp. This review show's a lot of the same. This is a fine bass, your playing is adequate, but I just got the feeling that your were not into this bass. Although you did go through all of the electronics,it seemed as though you really didn't spend any time really getting familiar with them. Also the tone you had set up on the amp left a lot to be desired. This bass is capable of a multitude of sounds which you barely touched upon. I wonder was it your allotted time which would not allow it. Anyway,if I had to rate this review,I would give it a C-,and I know you're better than that. Check out Adam Dorn's review of this same bass and you'll see just what I'm talking about.

have had bad experiences with these basses in terms of quality... strings roll off the fretboard, stripped truss rod, poor fretwork, buzzing, dead spots ... would rather just get a Squier honestly .. literally had to trash my MM P bass after the neck was terribly bowed, made 2 1/4 turns on the truss rod and it stripped out completely :-(
