Jon here from Fallen Dominion Studios. I know I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again. I LOVE this WHOLE series of GMT sub games! Great stuff, hours and hours of fun! Great video Alexander! More people need to buy these. So good!

I haven't got it on the table yet. It's sitting on my shelf, right beside The Hunters, The Hunted, and Silent Victory.

Great to see a player who appreciates the challenges of soldiering on with the Early War examples of ships, planes, tanks, and weaponry, and doesn't immediately want to go to the super weapons of the late war!!! I'm not very bullish on solitaire games by principle (if a player plays a game solo, and no one else is there to see it, does it really happen??), but if I were ever to buy a solitaire game, it would be one of the games in THIS sub series. EXCELLENT playthrough, along with your decision reasoning, and explanation of modifiers and odds.

The "weak" stuff is some of the most interesting, actually has some real tension to it, even minor incidents can have dire consequences!

@@ThePlayersAid EXACTLY. I've had a lot of frustration as a player of tactical aircraft games where players tend to be "gottawins" and always pick the heaviest-gunned, most robust model of any weapon, without regard for earlier models that were actually more representative of type. In so doing, your Spit IX and XIV drivers miss the tension of the 1942 "Focke Wulf Scourge" vs. their Mk V Spits. Or you get the fair-weather F4U Corsair "fans" who will only fly the **extremely** late war -4 variant with four 20mm cannons, never flying the version with six .50 cals, which did all the heavy lifting for the type in the war. Or, for tanks, you get players who never even try to drive a Pz Mk III, or short-gunned Mk IV, because they go right to the Panthers and Tigers.

@@Stiglr One of the things I really liked about Nightfighter Ace was that as you played through the game you gained prestige through kills, medals, and sorties. As such when you have enough prestige to gain an improved aircraft it felt EARNED. Also the new plane would only be marginally better so the prgoress was incremental through your career. I like that.

@@ThePlayersAid I feel the same way. Build up your experience with the weaker equipment first. I always use the early weapons first then do a seperate play with the later weapons.

Yes the other three all have the sequence of play on them. the med one does not. I'm probably just going to make a copy of the hunters page and then since I have all those cards sleeved in page protectors just cut out the sequence of play from the copy and fit it in there someplace so it's right there for me. I picked one of the boats that can carry the SLCs. (Note: first Hunted cruise, hedgehogs got me. Still got my 1st boat in other two games. Barely.) Lots of fun. Very good video, as always👍👍👍👍👍.

I love this game. The Cagni class is a blast to play, smaller torps w 8 front and 6 rear tubes. Fun little boat. My Medico is cursed so far, lost three in one career...no one else. LOL

Fun _big_ boat, actually. I believe it's the biggest of the bunch. It's the torpedoes that are small :)

If you like the early war Italian subs, you may like "Raiders of the Deep" from Compass. It has a lot of what you seem to like in this kind of game - it's very much focused on role-play elements and building a story as the war progresses. I'd love to see you review that game.

Is there any benefit to the Acciaio and Flutto classes except they don't have the -1 penalty to crash dive? The other classes of submarine will be rid of this penalty eventually (at the expense of an additional 1 month refit), so to me it doesn't seem to make up for starting 2-3 years later. The Cagni looks the most attractive to me due to its massive torpedo load (and 8 fore tubes and 6 aft tubes!), but it gets a +1 penalty to damage rolls, which is significant when dealing with larger vessels.

Is there a benefit? No, but unless you're min-maxing then they're great for historiocity and role playing etc.

@@ThePlayersAid Thanks. The rules refer to them as "advanced" models, and referenced them as if starting early was a disadvantage for not being able to choose them. Oh, and I just noticed something: the rulebook says to roll only 3 ships in a convoy, even though the chart says 4. Gregory Smith says the rulebook is right, and the chart is wrong: boardgamegeek.com/thread/2479718/questions ...and that post also answers another thing that was bugging me: the asterisk next to the aircraft on the encounter chart is apparently just a typo. And extreme range gets a -2 DRM, which isn't mentioned anywhere.

@@ThePlayersAid Indeed! My own little house rule - after I got spectacularly thrashed on my very first encounter on my virgin run - is that I get a -1 encounter bonus if all my torpedos miss (which all five of mine did), and -2 if at night. After all, as badly as I missed, by all rights they shouldn't even know they were under attack.

Does this differ from The Hunted on Attack Damage Chart[U3]? - I wanted The Hunters but am on the P500 waiting so I got The Hunted while I wait - anyway U3 is 2d6 in The Hunted which make the damage much harder to get vs 1d6.

Great video, if you like this game you should definitely check out GMT P500 listing Wolfpack. It is a simulator placing you in charge of a single submarine in charge of a Wolfpack of a solo game or four player co-op Wolfpack. I placed my order last month and the games already moved to final art work and I think this one will be a great crossover between solitaire and co-op gaming.
