Review | Battlefront plastic T-55/T-55AM2 1/100 (15mm) | Team Yankee & Tanks

Ойындар

Battlefront's plastic T-55 replaces their resin-and-metal kit. T-55 was the Soviet workhorse Main Battle Tank in use around the world. This kit builds the AM2 Cold War variants for Team Yankee as well as the earlier T-55 for Fate of a Nation, 'Nam and even Tanks: The Modern Age.
Join us as we look at the plastic of this kit and check out some history. We also look at Team Yankee stats for the T-55AM2.

Battlefront has an army set for Nam, with 2 ZSU-57-2 and 9 T-55 plastic tanks. It’s a great deal.

Luckily they are a fun kit. My main opponent fields East Germans, so I see about the same numbers of T-55s from him!

I just wish it had enough parts to build both turret versions so you could just swap between the models... Well, I guess some plasticard could work.

Even with two complete turrets your T-55A will have skirts and a hull applique, or your AM2 will have no skirts or applique. With those inaccuracies you might as well just build one tank and proxy it as the other as needed.

@@ausaskar Hmm... I didn't notice the hull applique, I thought they were the same. It's nice to be able to build multiple models but on the other hand it's irritating to be left with parts for half another tank when finished...

How does this stack up versus the Plastic Soldier Company version? The Battlefront kit is a good chunk more expensive for 5 compared, but it seems like it's easier to assemble?

I have reviewed the PSC kit as well. In the end, I like the BF kit. It is simpler to assemble, particularly the AM2 turret version. But the PSC kit is great. I have a box of them I need to finish building...

I bought some PSC Leopard I's a while ago as a cheaper alternative to the new BF Leopards, and now I regret my choice. The much less crisp molding, lack of decals and lack of options mean I will be buying BF over PSC in the future even if costing a little more.

Depends on what you're looking for. I personally, don't see any detail that the BF kit does objectively better. The PSC kit includes different hatches for the slight differences in the Czech/Polish licenced T-55As, has the wind sensor the BF kit lacks and a heap of different configurations for the external 12.7mm ammo boxes. The PSC kit also has different turret stowage boxes for the AM2 which are more accurate to the Czech/East German version. (The BF kit seems to be based on an early Soviet T-55AM.) The drawbacks are that it's a very involved build for a 1/100 kit (not always a drawback for scratch-builders) and the PSC kit doesn't come with the Type-69 trackguards or NSVT.

I didn’t mind the PSC kit, but it did have issues. Missing gunner optics and hull fit problems, plus a more complex build. But it did have some extra options. But the BF kit is very nice! The PSC Leopard has been mentioned here. I used them for my Australians and they were OK. But the BF Leopard is in my review stack. Looking forward to reviewing it.

Ahh you're right. I do remember the omission of the gunner's sight and co-ax MG ports was a dealbreaker for some.

Anyone Know if Team Yankee will do a “China, Vs Taiwan?” Modern day War “South China Sea,” United States, British, Australia, India, Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, & Philippines. VS China, North Korea, Russia, Pakistan, & Thailand/Laos/Burma?,

Not sure about that! However the Chinese Type 59 was widely exported, so they turn up in places like the Middle East.
