T-72B also had a later development that had the same ERA as the T-80U (the only T-80 in team yankee is an 80U) that is the kit that Zvesda made (the T-72B 1989) Some T-72Bs were made without ATGM sights, referred to as the T-72B1

Cool! Thanks for that. Was the T-72B1 without ATGM destined for WP and export? I'm not a T-72 surgeon. The history is pretty general with T-72 because if you tried to follow all the twists and curves of their development and variants your head would explode. And the video would be hours long. :-)

@@FogofWar The export variant of the T-72B is the T-72S, the B1 was made for some strange part of the Soviet doctrine where they intentionally make batches of gunlaunching tanks without the equipment needed to use it, examples including the T-62M1 and the T-64B1 which both are existing tanks that simply didn't get made with a ATGM sight.

@Darren Rushworth-Moore When they made that kit the T-72B3 didn't exist yet if I remember correctly. Though the T-72B3 is a modernisation of the T-72B model 1989 for two main reasons, it has the infared search lights which were removed when they added the B3's thermal sight and it was made for a game based on the 1991 Gulf War where the Soviets counter invade Iraq to prevent an American victory.

So the kit is basically a T 72M1 ( which should have better armour than a T 72 Ural or a T 72M) or a T 72B, if you are not picky about details it could be a T 72A, shame the B is missing the distinctive radiation cladding from the turret.

I have a bunch of old T-72s as well. But I have some T-72s, some T-64s and some (mostly unbuilt) T-80s. I plan to use the T-72s alongside the new T-72B kits as proxies. I'm sure my opponents will be OK with them all being T-72Bs as long as I am clear about what is what up front. They never complained about my HQ tank, which was the Zvezda T-72B3. It just made it easy to pick him out. BF hate to repoint existing kits, so introducing the T-72B was really their only option.

@@FogofWar I find that a bit weird. I can understand reluctance to changing the stats as then all the old unit cards turn obsolete, but the point costs are in far fewer places. Of course, it's not bad for business if people keep buying new models.
