Sorry about my 'man cold' voice but I just wanted to express some thoughts on the latest two images dropped and probably my last Alien Romulus update before we get a full trailer. Despite my scepticism, I am actually really looking forward to viewing an Alien film once more in the cinema and I truly hope for the best. Hindsight will probably play a part with this particular films as I am sure the initial reaction from seeing this film will need an amount of analysis. Stay tuned for more information and a review on this critical addition the the Alien franchise.

2:00...Fede Alverez's "encyclopedic knowladge" of the Alien franchise is the only thing giving me hope for this one...its quite well known that he's a massive fan of the Alien films and he did do a pretty good job with Evil Dead 2013 ...I think if this film does bomb it will probably have more to do with " the powers that be and disneys box ticking " instead of Alverez's story and directing ...Great video 👍

I think many of us consider the first two movies pretty much perfect, so it's gonna be hard to top or get even close. Thus far Féde is saying the right things, but I'm not sure that getting Scott & Cameron's blessings is necessarily a good thing. They've both changed a lot the last couple of decades, and not for the better imo. My first impression of the Romulus cast is not great, but I assume they're all good actors that were hired for the right reasons (...) so in the end it will come down to the script and direction. Yes, I'm trying hard to lower my expectations so I don't get super disappointed once again 😂

  • @ENTERTAINtheDUDE

Yeah it's difficult to get too hyped because the more I think about it the more my mind travels back to the golden age of innovative horror films from whence Alien and Aliens were birthed. Romulus is a modern addition to the franchise and should be able to stand in its own two feet and bring something new to the table without clinging into nostalgic fan service. I just hope it does. I agree what you say with the decline of Ridley and Cameron, sort of 😉. I enjoy watching the Avatar films in cinema but apart from the technology, there isn't much else going on if I'm honest. Then there is Ridley who every now and then hits a home run but then Napoleon almost made me fall asleep haha.

I would think the backpack device is most likely a flamethrower, though it does lack a visible pilot light; could still use a self-igniting accelerant like TEAL or whatnot though, or maybe the pilot light is within the muzzle somehow. Otherwise, the speculation about an acid sprayer from Out Of The Shadows (I only listened to the audiobook, and didn't recall it, but I've seen it mentioned as a mining device used in a makeshift fashion) could be an interesting item though presumably the xenomorphs would be acid-proof as shown in AVP anyhow.

Thank the gods for a non-shill like analysis of this upcoming Disney film, a refreshing take considering the state of YT reviewers these days. But let's not forget that this is first and foremost a Disney film. This is the first strike against this next iteration of a beloved franchise. Second is the quite obvious casting choice to emulate the cast of ALIEN but falls way short because the actors all look look like teens simply because this film is targeted for a Gen-Z audience. Third Strike, and I'm so OUT by now, is the highly rumored connection to David and ALIEN COVENANT. It's seeming more likely by the day that this film is reinforcing the ideas introduced by Barmy-Ridley in PROMETHEUS and COVENANT and, whilst nostalgia baiting us with news that Big Chappie makes a return, we're still being anchored to the nonsense origin of the Xenomorph that Scott so desperately tried to make canon. Personally, when I go to see this in August, I'm setting my stopwatch for the countdown to when the actors bring up references to pronouns or trans/gender ideaology, because it's Disney and it's 2024.

It will be Disney's fault if the Romulus is a box office flop, not Alvarez. But, everything looks great so far so don't be pessimistic, remember it is a movie, it is not real (there is only so much you can pull off.) With believable characters and horror, Sy Fy scares are to be had, there is very little doubt in my mind so I am very excited. Think about it like this, with all the Star Wars movies which we have (good, bad, and ugly) the director and crew still pulled off a great surprise called Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. This "Alien Romulus" will, I believe, deliver the same results.

School plays tend have more feeling in them.

I saw Alien in 70mm in 1979. It was amazing and is made me rethink wanting to explore space. However the critics of the day were pretty brutal on it. The lines were mumbled, there was no character development, it was just a haunted house in space, etc. Over the years Alien has become iconic since those, like myself, grew up after seeing it. Are the newer films worse? I think if I saw Covenant in 1979, and it was a stand alone film without any preamble. I think it would be every bit as freaky as Alien. What messes all these films up is that they are sequels and prequels. That creates nearly an impossible job not matter who the writer is, the director is, etc. Aliens worked since it did not attempt to give you a back story and a sequel. The only backstory was Alien and that was it. The biggest failure of Aliens was the reduction of Aliens to basically big insects. With each iteration the Alien was further reduced until it was just a gimmic produced by man. And the anthrocentric nature of the universe triumphs again, putting humans in the center of everything.

Wise thoughts on this subject matter. I also have looked on these creatures as very mysterious beings that are part of a history in the universe far bigger than us, almost like they exist beyond the films. Sadly, the films as you say have weighed them down with egotistical human characteristics in my opinion. I realise that AI and greed always played a part of the films that gave them drama but the incredible secrets that the space jockey had died with will always be the most fundamental aspect to Alien in my opinion.

Every thing after the epic aliens was desperately watered down and made no sense. This upcoming movie I'm hoping to see a lot better action and actors who you really route for. I want to see and hear exactly what the aliens movie provided, action and dramatic plot that has the survivers fighting for their lives, I want to see something that I can feel deep in my bones but again I must see that these kids can give a good fight and use their intellect to help combat those alien bastards.

I do approach this with a certain amount of guarded optimism, sine we're getting Fede Alvarez. If anyone can do an Alien movie right it's him. But I'm starting to feel like the Alien franchise is the abusive boyfriend I keep going back to. I'm feeling much more optimistic about the upcoming television series than this film. AFTERTHOUGHT: one of the things that made ALIEN horrific was the sexual overtones - they were completely gone from ALIENS. Ronald Shusett in a documentary remembers the shock this carried saying they were all disturbed as "This thing will fuck you!!." We see a sexually suggestive erect barbed tail climbing up between the legs of Lambert and the wild sounds from the Alien sound like humping. Also, in the penultimate scene, Ripley strips down to her underwear. The movie is loaded with penetrations and secretions. The alien itself is a rape, a violation, and I remember how creepy the egg in the marketing was, it was on par with the movie poster from 1974's IT'S ALIVE w/ a claw hanging out of a baby carriage. There were tons of 'rape monster' movies that followed ALIEN like THE ENTITY, HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP, EVIL DEAD, THE BEAST WITHIN. In fact, given that female protagonists are virtually a must for this movie (and remember, it set the bar for that originally), I'd say at its core it is a movie of violation and rape. For ALIEN ROMULUS to have that old magic, it better summon up some of that. He handled two creepily sexual scenes in the EVIL DEAD remake (the vines) and DON'T BREATHE (the insemination basement chamber scene), he can handle it here if its written in. I think its crucial. This is a trope that goes way back, just look at the myriad of sci-fi films with a sexy damsel in distress, typically the poster had the monster carrying her off (or Robby the Robot in the case of FORBIDDEN PLANET). It's Disney, and Disney is fuck all liberal feminist Woke nutjob now, but the movie has an R-rating, maybe Fede can 'slip it in' yuk yuk.

I could not agree more haha. I remember looking at a book of Giger's artwork when I was very young and it disturbed me so much like looking at alien porn or something. So much of that was implemented into Alien with everything you said and then more more orifices for good measure ;) The alien itself was incredibly perverse and made more frightening by what you don't see or understand. If Fede is such a big fan then you have to wonder what weird treats he has in store for us.

@@ENTERTAINtheDUDE What could be more 70's sex-horror than a beast drooling KY Jelly? I forgot the other rape scene: Ash trying to regurgitate something (we can guess what) via a rolled up magazine stuffed in Ripley's mouth. Look closely and you'll see in that scene she's surrounded by nudie magazine pinups on the wall. All this sex horror is foreshadowed by Parker making a lewd oral sex joke directed at Lambert, implying miscegenation right before the chestburster. The innards of the facehugger we see during Ash's dissection are raw oysters which are analogous to female genitalia. Again, none of the sequels have these sexual overtones, they're content to just settle on the splatter & gore and I'm afraid Alvarez might as well. Via a leak we know one of the aliens will erupt from Isabela Merced's ass: As per the blog WORLD OF REEL: "Here’s Merced speaking with THR: There’s a scene that I’m in, and they all had to turn away. Not one person stayed looking at that iPad because it was so disgusting […] And I was watching it like this … (Merced pretends to hold an iPad with a mesmerized look on her face.) I was so excited. I’m pretty sure I know what the scene is, so, SPOILERS ahead … Remember the chest bursting scene in 1979 original? Álvarez one ups that one with a rectum bursting scene. Yes, a baby xenomorph tries to find its way out of a human body and decides the best way to go is via the anal cavity. This is coming from a single source of mine who saw a rough cut of the film, so take it for whatever it’s worth." PROMETHEUS was loaded with that but it did little for that bad movie but ALIEN is a body horror movie, but that does not overshadow the subtle elegance of its sexual themes as it does in the sequels. H. R. Giger is a decadent artist, which means he combines the primitive with the sophisticated, the organic with the technological, and a high amount of detail to trap the eye in voyeurism. I'm not going to get academic here but decadence is a disease of the eye, which it seduces and inflames with pornography. Here are two terrific walkthroughs of his museum in Switzerland where you will see the original ALIEN artwork: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ipiJ1cdplZyel9I.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/faigucSmZaq7k6w.html Be fun to make a pilgrimage to that museum after the movie hits.

@@ENTERTAINtheDUDE I knew i was going to get this comment from you and you are absolutely right. You can have your own opinion. However, The reason covenant went off of the rails isn't because of Ridley Scott. It was because of haters not seeing the xenomorph as much as they wanted to. If he was able to make the movie he wanted to make, it would have been amazing. People who hate on the stories SO MUCH that they don't even realize that they are the reasons the movie is terrible. Film makers are there to tell stories and they have a vision in their head. Ridley Scott obviously had a vision in his head about the prequels which is why he did them. But once the hate started and kept coming, he decided to cater to the haters instead of making the movie he wanted to make. Instead of hating constantly, i wish people would accept the vision of the people who created the series. (yes, i know who invented Alien, i am purely talking about the movies). If Ridley Scott was actually able to follow through on a decent sequel to Prometheus, it would have been amazing. That didn't happen because of so-called fans. By having a larger youtube video, you have more influence than the normal fan such as myself. The negative connotations of the story will have more effect than some friends just talking amongst themselves. Whether you want to believe it or not, that can influence people who make these movies because they are after one thing, $$$$$$$$$. Case in point, Covenant. I liked it, but the box office draw was the xenomorph and they gave the fans what they wanted to make that money, and that ruined the vision Ridley Scott was going after. I don't give a shit about money. I want a good story.

@@N0rseman ok mate, point taken. I still don't know what vision Ridley did exactly have in his head as I know he doesn't write himself and relies on writers to craft his films. The writers for covenant and to a certain degree Prometheus were below standard for the task in my opinion. So yes, Ridley was not to blame if you bare in mind that the studio were paying for the film and ultimately were in control. As for your other concern, the Ripley 2.0 was clearly a joke but and I have to be honest in my critiques but in the spirit of positivity until I have actually seen the finished product, it might be more productive and less harmful if I remain more neutral in my content. This may be more fair as I understand how much hard work goes into making films from research and clearly there are many optimistic fans out there also.
