I cut off the end of the Festool bag. After emptying it, I roll the open end around a dowel and use binder clips to hold it shut. Been doing this for years occasionally replacing the bags. Way easier to empty when you can open the bag to dump.

My wife is a professional seamstress. I commissioned her to cut open the end of a regular Festool bag and sew in a robust zipper to reclose it. The zippered bag empties just as fast as the Festool Forever. Best to have your seamstress perform this surgery while the bag is new, so as to avoid dust in her sewing room.

A fairly valid solution, however, if you're using a Festool vac to eliminate fine dust entering your atmosphere, then using a standard shop vac without a bag (that usually aids filtration of finer particles) to empty the Festool seems counterintuitive - ie. those fine particles will be released back into your atmosphere by your un-bagged shop vac. I think you'd have been better off making your own version of Festool's reusable bag. It'll probably be safer for your lungs, providing you where a respirator when emptying it.

I fiddled with the bags like that for a while but finally got the festool cyclone and its much more convenient. Bags last way way longer and much easier to empty the cyclone. Same footprint. Pays for itself in no time.

How does the Festool cuisine compare to the orange Home Depot cheap $50 version? I'm in the market for a shop vac and Festool, Makita, and Ridge look to be viable options. The Festool models look really sleek with everything compact!

I just shake the dust out of the hole into a garbage can, although I have used my rigid vac to do the same thing. I’ve emptied my bag at least 10 times already and it’s still working fine.

I am a bit conflicted by this, and usually don't spew negative comments. However, a couple things come to mind. It seems to me that using a, ordinary wet-dry vacuum to transfer the dust out of the Festool kind of defeats the whole purpose behind the Festool in the first place. Aren't you introducing fine dust particles into the air that your dust extractor so admiringly captures? Also, since you perform that offload transfer twice, how much is your time worth? It seems to me that the cyclone pre-separator (204083 CT) would fit the bill. The clear container captures most of the chips and large particles, you can see at a glance how full it is, and it is very easy to empty. I'm just sayin'

I use a short length of 15mm plastic water pipe , the straight version not the coil, and cut a slot along it with my mitre saw. Chamfer the ends of the cut to make a shallow "V" at each end. This slips easily over a turned over bag end that I have previously cut off. Much easier that RPs method.

I have been reusing all my shop vac bags for a long time, Festool and otherwise. But with a much simpler method. I simply take a new bag, carefully cut a slit near the end (cutting only into 1 side). Then using duck tape, I cover all areas outside of the slit and also carefully folding some tape inside the bag to give a sturdy opening in the bag. This reinforcing the slit, makes it much more durable and gives you an area to put another piece of tape on it to seal it up. To do so, I layer on 1 more piece of tape over the top of the slit on the outside which seals up the bag tightly. To make it easy to peal off when necessary, I simply fold over a small piece of the tap to make an easy pull tab when time to remove. Then, when the bag is full, I can simply remove this top piece of tape, empty the contents, then wipe off the area of the opening around the hole (this is important so the new tape will stick), and replace with a new piece of duck tape. I reuse the same bag until the opening to shop vac hole gets a little lose to create a tight seal. Will last a long time!

Your processes are always top notch....I’d even be willing to buy a couple sheets of plywood for you to demo with!

I cut the end of my festool bags to empty them. I fold a little of the material over itself and then use large binder clips to hold it close. I can reuse the same big many times before it needs to be replaced.

Good video, I have found I can dump my bags without vacuuming them out, just fold them so that the hole is at the bottom and dump/shake. I get about 90% out and typically dump my bags 4-5 times before disposing.

It's Apr 2021 and plywood right now is at $95 for 3/4 sheet around the Montreal area. Also hardware stores shelves are going empty. There were no vacuum bags on the shelves of the two hardware stores I went to so I jokingly said to one of my carpenters to take the bag out of the vacuum and then use the vacuum to vacuum out the bag. Then low and behold, here comes Ron with a video vacuuming out a vacuum bag with a vacuum. 🤣🤣🤣

I don't understand what people are missing here. Yes, you put some dust back in the air, but not on the jobsite... Yes, you can breath in some dust and be exposed again, and you can also put on a larger respirator for the brief time you empty the bag outside and your good. This is also great advice for when you just run out and are in a pinch also, thank you!

You are exposing yourself to the dust again. Once whist you use your tool… a second time when you vacuum with the Ryobi… which won’t have as good a filter and is an aerosoliser for the dust. So what’s the point… just use your Ryobi to start off with in the first place if you don’t mind the worse filtration and save the money. If you want better dust control… close and throw away the bag
