Returning to life an old HP laptop

Ғылым және технология

Hi everyone, thank you for 9 minutes of your time. In this video I back in function and upgrade old HP laptop. Current specs are: CPU i7 2670qm, RAM 8GB DDR3 and 120GB SSD. The laptop is good for some basic things like watching videos or movies, listening to music, working with documents and some very low requirement games.

There are actually videos on this channel about turning Laptops into Desktops/PCs, you can follow those to get a basic idea of what you need to do. Remember to keep certain things, like the Wi-Fi, Battery, and (if shipped with one) CD-ROM drive.

I bought the wrong type of ram(8gb) and i returned it. I showed the laptop to a computer shop nearby and they told they cost more than what i bought for...

Hi Andrew - a relative of mine gave me a used and in very bad shape Toshiba Satellite c855-1el that had 4 GB RAM, i3 i3-2370M and 500 gb HDD. The upgrades that I had made were: I replaced the CPU with a more powerful i7- 3630QM, added 4 more gb RAM and i had put a 240 GB SSD, i had replaced the cd drive with a caddy drive where I had placed the 500 gb original HDD for more storage, I had replaced the batery with a 6600 Ah and changed the keyboard. All this cost me around 100 euro (i had the ssd and RAM and bought the CPU from local market - used parts) - now the laptop is revived and works much better. I love your channel and I had learned many from your videos. Keep up the good work, bro!

I have a Toshiba Satellite A200 from 2007 or 2008. It has some cracks in the casing, some wear... It came originally with Windows Vista, Core 2 Duo E5400, 2GB DDR2 RAM and a 200GB SATA hard drive. I upgraded to a Core 2 Duo E6500, 4GB RAM (wich is the max RAM for this model), 256GB SSD and a faster WiFi module with Bluetooth. I was able to install a trusty lite version of Windows 10 and it's running dam fast! I'm amazed how well it's performing!

I upgraded that same model laptop for a family members during lockdown cause it had been dropped and unused so i changed the screen, hinges, the bezzel, upgraded the hdd to an ssd, the keyboard (i found the keyboard the hardest thing to remove yet you popped it off like the pro you are :), replaced the cpu fan cause it was noisy and faulty and the thermal paste. I also found a used palm rest on eBay that was in great condition cause the track pad section was more worn than yours. I tried to upgrade the wifi card but the bios was locked to the hp card so i changed it back. I used your past videos as a guide on how best to prep, clean and assemble. Good work always 👍🏾

G6-1000 series laptops have BIOS Whitelists for the Wi-Fi card, however the newer G6-2000 series do not. My parents' old HP was a 2000 series and I replaced the Wi-Fi card with a Wi-Fi+Bluetooth card. (I did not upgrade to an AC7260, the best card for these boards, because the E2-1800 was holding everything back, including the wireless speeds!)

I don't think I could upgrade this machine, but I was thinking of removing the battery getting a blue-ray disk drive for it and making a custom case for it and turn it into a multimedia center. While the processor and amount of ram may not seem to be enough it does a pretty good job of handling stuff at 1080P, and I currently have Linux Mint installed on there (since Windows 10 is about to hit end of life in the next year). However, I still feel like I could get some better performance from this machine as well... But I still haven't found a better operating system yet...

Hi bro, yes, the bios can be updated but also not as well. Most of these laptops were made to support more CPUs, just because of the market and price there are few options, cheaper option with slower CPU and better option with better CPU. Also on the motherboard there is a space for the GPU and memory, the top models are coming with dedicated GPU. Basically is one motherboard but with more options. The bios can be updated, but in this case won't change anything, if the laptop had better specs then is a different story

Sir, is it okay of having a laptop with the CPU temperature 70-90℃ ? Mine is a Dell Latitude 3330. And it remains 70-90℃ almost all the time. So, I use an external cooling pad.

Hi bro, 70-90℃ is at the border, but many of these laptops are running hot because of new and powerful CPU and very thin cooling. Anyway, using some cooling pad will be good

Most of the music was Epidemic Sounds, which you can either find on KZread, or you can get a license from Epidemic themselves. I don't think it's that expensive.
