Return to Troubleshoot AC Compressor with Open Windings

I was doing an AC maintenance and ran into this packaged AC not cooling. Found the compressor not running and windings open. The air conditioners compressor was extremely hot. I return the following day to see if windings closed. Also troubleshoot the faulty compressor.
When I approached the air conditioner, first thing I did was turn on the power at disconnect. I heard the compressor start up and run. I noticed the suction line was warm. I checked pressures and they were about equal. The compressor didn’t sound good. I changed the power/ phase into the units contactor, to see if the compressor was running out of phase. After this the compressor started pumping correctly. The compressor was out of phase. After the video I cleaned the condenser coil.

Good fix Bill. Most tech's would not think of switching one of the 3 phases. There are probably more problems in this building.

I ran into a compressor in past doing this, even have a vid kzread.info/dash/bejne/h4qi0cWPftGth6Q.htmlsi=1bi66P42d0lmE32h. around the 15:15 time. this was first time I ran into a compressor doin this. all other units are from a different panel. this unit 8s from a panel in a part of building that got renovated.

@@thehvachacker That makes perfect sense. When they did the remodel, the electrician unknowingly switched the phases in the panel.

Just the sound of the compressor let you know it’s running backwards. Scrolls usually not really noisy
What’s the oil level at?

Should of been switched in the disconnect, not the contactor

Next time I’m up there I will. It runs and I’m the only one to work on it.
