Installing AC Refrigerant Line Set to Condensing Unit

Ойын-сауық

I am finishing hooking up the air conditioner’s line set to the condenser. I solder in the fittings using Staybrite 8. The line-set doesn’t reach the condenser. Therefore, i have to add a piece of copper pipe for the suction line. Afterwards i connect the liquid line drier. Plus more 3/8 liquid line piping to the service valve.

Picked up a new pipe cutter with a big diameter cutting wheel. Maybe 1" round, it barely leaves a burr if you go slow. Nice work on this one

Im a brazing guy, but stay brite for a solder is pretty damn good and strong. I have nothing against soldering lines. As long as it holds....who cares how it is done.

    Why not just use silfos?

  • @thehvachacker

Why not just use staybrite 8? I have no leaks and have been using staybrite 8 for 15+ years. Its rated for 410a. Fittings can handle more pressure than silfos. Silfos works. Yet then need to purge, try not to overheat txv, or service valves. Thats my reasons. If you think silfos is better than use it. As long as the system is tight and holds below 500 microns. All that matters

I thought those lines need to brazed?

  • @Balticblue93

They most definitely need to be brazed and many jurisdictions will fail you. I don’t care what anyone says about Stay-brite 8. It is inferior to flowing nitrogen and braze with an oxy-acetylene and Sil-fos 15. My guys are not allowed to do this and we replace and fix too many systems when guys half-ass it with solder and not real brazing.

@Balticblue93 this is not true. Before posting a comment saying most definitely, you should make sure it’s factual statement. You might of had bad experiences with staybrite 8. Techs not knowing how to properly solder, ect. I have zero leaks on my linesets. Wish I could say the same for evap coils

Is their a reason your using flux and solder? I understand it uses much less heat but the fittings you are joining are easily accessible, an oxy torch with a nitro purge and heat trap on your filter dryer and service valves would be much better. Why add any contaminants to the system if you don’t have to?

    Stronger and no nitrogen needed

  • @pineychristian

@rj.parker definitely not stronger. That's just what he choose to use. Brazing when done correctly the joint is actually stronger than the copper pipe itself.
