RETURN TO PLANET THANET: Grove Ferry and Canterbury

Ойын-сауық

In this FOUR-PART series, I return to the KENT coast, where I lived for 20 years. Beginning on the ISLE OF THANET, known by the locals as "PLANET THANET".
In the THIRD episode of the series, I take a trip out into the COUNTRYSIDE, leaving THANET in my rear-view mirror. I soon find myself on the road to CANTERBURY, where I stop off to visit the BEAUTIFUL and TRANQUIL RIVERSIDE PARADISE known as GROVE FERRY.
Across the road from GROVE FERRY, I rediscover the STODMARSH NATURE RESERVE trail, where I take a short walk into a bog and ruin my sandals.
Returning to the road, I visit YE OLDE YEW TREE INN, which is the OLDEST PUB IN KENT, where legendary HIGHWAYMAN, DICK TURPIN, hid from the authorities, and where, centuries later, I ate some PUB GRUB.
Then I finally arrive at CANTERBURY, and go in search of my old haunt, the MARLOWE THEATRE, where I sweet-talk my way inside for some B-roll, before heading off to CANTERBURY CATHEDRAL, where I experience both disappointment and irritation.
And then I get lost...

@@kitsworld I visited Canterbury at the age of five with my parents. I often passed through Kent to get to Dover, when I was living in France. I have a friend who lives in Broadstairs, but haven't visited for 15 years...

LOL - I didn't flash them a bollock until after I'd been so rudely rejected! But when I noticed the breeze in my wedding tackle, it certainly didn't make me inclined to press the issue! 🤣 Thanks for watching, mate. 😊x

Thank you, Ken. It means a lot that you think it was well crafted. Thank you. I do my best. Yes, the Yew Tree Inn was a big letdown. I hope I was fair about them in the video, but I really couldn't get excited about them after being made to feel unwelcome. And they weren't exactly doing a roaring trade! Lol. See you next time, hopefully. 😘x

Hi Kit.thanks for the tour. I really love seeing nature preserves, cobbled streets, and architecture! Though I'm an atheist, the artist in me loves to see the fantastical elements of church architecture. I have opposing feelings of awe and dismay when pondering what it took to build those behemoths. Would that the monumental effort had been better spent on the betterment of peoples lives in a more real, and less spiritual sense. Gosh, time for me to grab my Canterbury Tales and get reading.💕😘💕

Hey, Barbara. Glad you enjoyed it. I would have loved to show more architecture, but I objected to the fees. I totally share your opposing feelings. But being bipolar I'm used to internal conflict. Enjoy your Chaucer. 😊😘x

😂 the bird as an ill-omen. Beautiful nature footage! Grove Ferry looks nice, lovely and rural. Beautiful sunshine Bleh for the bonfire smell. Stodmarsh looks really nice. The photographs are beautiful. Oh yeah that is muddy. Oops for wearing the same trousers! Aww for the food being expensive. Shame they wouldn't let you stay there. Fair reasons for you to not buy a big meal there. It is a beautiful old building. I'd get lost too. Interesting mix of old and new buildings in Canterbury. The Marlowe theatre! The treatre room looks huge. Glad you could take some footage! Aww shame they charge people. Yes I would've thought it'd be open to all, or at least some of it should be open to all. Yes I have definitely been enjoying this series! Sorry for being behind, sensory overload and all that.. you know it. Oh wow are those wolves? Gorgeous shot of the moon above an old building.

With viewing figures as low as mine, it's really gratifying to see someone actually appreciating my efforts. 🥰 As ever, thank you, from the bottom of my heart. You're a truly supportive friend.💕 Only one more of these Thanet episodes to go, and then who knows? And don't worry about delays. I'm not timing you, and I totally understand sensory overload. 😘x

Ha! How horrified were you to find yourself surrounded by children! haha! The Grove Ferry Inn looks lovely and i immediately wanted a roast sunday dinner there! Wow you really have a talent for taking photographs Kit, very impressed with the ones you too on the trail some time ago. Canterbury looks nice, in fact everywhere around there looks very pleasant..... how mean were the people in the olde worlde Inn not to let you stay overnight, especially as you were eating there.... pah! 😞 'I found a familiar passage' says Kit.... sorry but i did chortle a little bit then! 🙂 The Cathedral people charge MONEY to take photos of it outside!!! Ridiculous and Outrageous! This is an excellent video my dear, keep them coming please! xx

Thank you, John. 😘 Delighted that you enjoyed it. Of course, my left bollock only appeared offscreen on this occasion, but during filming in a cemetery one time, I split my other joggers and both bollocks draped themselves decorously over the top of the gravestone upon which I sat. True story. And they are still in one of the shots, but you can't see them much due to shadow. 😳🤣😘x

A different version of the Canterbury Tales. A pilgrim with his testicle a dangling. Made me laugh Kit, there' s so oft a wee naughtiness in some your posts. May I enquire if you've seen cruising, not on that river, but along that overgrown muddy path? I bet it's Ramsgate next week.

  • @kitsworld

"A pilgrim with his testicle a dangling" - most poetic thing I've read since Chaucer. 🤣 Naughtiness is indeed a big part of my nature. You'd be shocked at some of the stuff I have to cut out! Lol. I must confess I've never seen any cruising on any river, muddy path, or other habitat in the British Isles, although I did do a lot of cruising on the Nile - but not the sort you're thinking of. 😉 And I hope you won't be too disappointed, but Ramsgate is not making an appearance any time soon. Please don't tell me you've been eagerly awaiting it. Eeek! 😳

It was lovely. I'm a believer, but I share your opinion that churches have a duty to assume the risk and remain open. Pay to take photos of the exterior, I think you must have had the bad luck to run into an officious snit. Because of them, you are the one that got away, speaking of which, did the fisher of fish land one?

  • @kitsworld

    @kitsworld

    2 жыл бұрын

Thank you, my friend. The officious snit was actually moderately friendly and allowed me (under supervision) to get those brief shots outside from a distance, but the whole thing seemed fishy to me. And yes, the Fisher King netted a beauty. I chose to cut away before he scooped it up, in case it upset anyone. I didn't notice if he was keeping his catches or releasing them, and I didn't stick around to find out. 😘x

Traffic and school children is a terrible combination, indeed 😱 You're such a talented photographer as well. Those photographs are excellent. Ye Olde Yew Tree Inn looks really cozy and rustic. But what a pity they didn't let you stay there with your camper van. Bollocks! Wow I didn't expect that level of disappointment from the Canterbury Cathedral! I'm not overly religious myself, but I think it is exactly as you said, they shouldn't make you pay for a visit, aren't houses of God supposed to be free for everyone?! Despicable religious capitalism. Oh, did I see firefighters coming up in the next episode? How exciting!

Thank you, Jere. 😘 Yes, despite having a hobby I can't really afford, I do occasionally manage a decent pic, even on my cheap and ancient camera! lol 🤓 I'm really glad you liked my efforts. 🥰 The Yew Tree is beautiful, and hidden away in a secluded and very peaceful little village. I had planned to take my Hubby there one day, but after the disappointment of the food and the unwelcoming attitude to vanlifers, I'm reassessing my thoughts about it. And the are dozens of better places for us to go. 😉🌈💖 The less said about the Cathedral the better. Your understated and polite sentiments were well expressed and said it all. 😉🚽🧻 Firefighters? I don't know what you mean. 🚒🔥😁
