I’m pretty sure this is how I look when I ski groomers but no one ever films me. ..... .. . ..

I like both this one and the one about moguls, reminding people that skiing has many dimensions to explore. It seems a worthy goal to have carving, mogul, and powder turns in a skier's bag of tricks. Each is a separate skill and few can do all three.

Watch some World Cup speed events in slo-mo. It's amazing how many inside ski 'recovery' turns are performed on every run while draggin knuckles on an injected race course.

i love carving on corduroy. Being able to initiate a turn whenever you want is the ultimate.

Always headed straight to the powder, only ever 'fired' myself out of a real good carved turn using both skis by accident. Even when uncontrolled, that springy energetic feel you get from turning like a racer is so rewarding and addictive, it makes powder floating feel like kindergarten play.

That was the most entertaining 3 minutes of skiing that I've seen in my 47 years of skiing. Gotta love them groomers. Ripping with a high edge angle makes for a lot of fun.

It’s not just about arcing the turn. It’s about generating speed from the release of energy ;) groomers are life!!

Big, wide, steep groomers are my favorite and I occasionally like to run them on my 1970's Kneissl WhiteStar GS in 210cm with Marker Rotomats. They carve on hardpack and hold a turn as long as you dare keep the edge set.

Almost as good as fall line deep powder turns. Nicely done, lads.

Edge to edge, edge to edge, edge to edge, that's all I can do. Can't ski moguls anymore. My old joints creak too much. Completely lost on a powder day because where I ski that means wet mashed potato snow. I skied the trees when I was 12 years old until discovering wide slopes served by chairlifts. love the corduroy.

MAN I LOVE the groomers...good job on video showing perhaps people that never skied and seeing THIS! I freakin' love the speed, control, the glide, the turns...the G's LOVE LOVE LOVE this shot @ 3:01 Clap Clap Clap...takes me from my chair to right there!

I love carving. Floating on fresh snow is great too. But give me some springtime groomed corn at 11am and I'm a happy camper.

Must be nice having nobody else on the groomed run like that. Big reason I stay off them is to avoid all the beginners. Too unpredictable.

Idk, sometimes that’s half the fun. Threading sick high angle GS turns at 40+ mph through the hoards of slowpokes while remaining in full control and endangering none of them is pretty fun. It’s particularly rewarding when you perfectly predict the paths of 2-3 Jerry’s as they zig and zag their way down the trail so you can blast through the slot that opens up without having to slow down or change the path of your arc at all. I never raced, but I’ve spent my share of time slaloming through crowded trails with a few other fast friends, and it can be a great time seeing who can make it through the crowds fastest (and I’ve never hit anyone, or seen one of my friends do so either btw).

Love it-anybody can huck air but carve technique is what separates the jibbers from the pros! BTW the Bonafide is technically a great ski but an absolute plank ! even these guys struggle to flex it adequately and you dont need such a wide ski on groomers which begs the question what is this ski designed for? 100kg pros skiing dust at mach speed on crust? pretty narrow focus. The Brahma on the other hand is a much more versatile and equally capable ski.

To be fair, groomers at Snowbird are way better than any other groomers. Regulator Johnson is freaking terrifying

Alex S Regulator Johnson the longest and steepest groomer at The Bird. I have skied it on 98 + 100 mm waisted freeride skis but last season I intentionally bought my Blizzard X Power 810 Ti 167 cm front side skis. Man what a ride! If you liked Regulator try skiing The Wild Flower Olympic Downhill at Snowbasin Ski Resort it’s out side Ogden UT. Do it on a day with good visibility and take time to check out the course!

at 1:20 do you have all your weight on your inside ski? How do you keep in line with your outside ski in mid air? :D everytime i get on my inside ski i get into trouble, would love some insight, thanks. Awesome skiing btw.

heladar all your weight on the outside ski. just focus on that solely, the more speed you gain the deeper you’ll get and the more weight will be distributed throughout

Yeah he does, but not on purpose. He entered the turn pressuring his outside edge, went so deep in the turn that the angles stopped working, and held the turn with the inside just long enough to slam the outside ski back down and contact the snow for the turn exit. He pulls this off by having legs of steel, a lot of momentum, really grippy spring snow, and a lot of skill. Most of the time when you go this low your hip drags in the snow and you just kind of bottom out. It's a cool-looking screwup, basically, the kind of thing that happens when you're trying to see how low you can go.

I've found a new world on the groomers after skiing for 20 years. Up until the last few years, I was always searching for jumps and bumps. After a few years of doing a lot of track racing on circuits, I have a whole new view on skiing. It's so similar to the feeling of driving a race car. Intense focus, one mistake and you're fu***d

Thanks some great skills on display here. I do hope that no skier copies you and actually rips it through the SLOW ski zone like that though as they are there for a reason. Perhaps next time ski fast by all means but set a good example and slow down in designated areas.

Yep. The teens copying this type of behaviour can't stop fast enough to avoid the 5-year old kids just learning how to ski. And that's how accidents happen. Also, there is no way you can stop if there is a bump and someone just fell over behind that bump. You will see them too late, and will then badly maul them with the ski edge. If you ski over their head, possibly kill them. And then what?

Very poor example of how to ski. The slow signs are there for a reason & should be respected. It is a lot safer for everyone to ski @ slower, slower, slower speeds & tighten up the arcs to achieve the hip to the snow angles & forces. If speed needs to be lowered further might have to go from locked on edge carving to brush carving. Momentum can hid a lot of poor technique. Plus it is more fun to be skiing then ridding the chair back to the top.

I don't know why Tecnica would sponsor Marcus Caston to do this video when they could have worked with good groomer skiers instead. Marcus was completely incapable of balancing on his outside ski throughout this entire video.

Marcus gets away with skiing on his inside ski because he has developed good edge angles before losing the outside ski. He is strong and a good athlete so he gets away with it! If he was in an icy World Cup GS course he wouldn't make it through the third gate. His skiing shows the common flaw of not holding his angulation through the highest G portion of the turn. Look carefully at his upper body and shoulder rotation which ends up blocking the weighting of the outside ski---- just like so many beginners and intermediates. One of the hidden secrets that separates a truly great skier like Marcel Hirscher from the rest of the world is the efficiency of his edge to edge transitions--- and that includes a mili-second of skiing on the inside ski!--- but not during the high G arc portion.
