I read that with each take she just laughed harder until as you said edwards just gave up and left it in. It actually works with the character as she is deeply amused that this goofball would try to snow her.

@@billolsen4360 Wonderful actor, I'm happy whenever I see him. I advocate watching 1955's "The LadyKillers", where Sellers, very young, and Lom are together in supporting roles to Alec Guinness (one of the very greats, another wonderful master of disguise like Sellers) and the sweet, adorable, and inestimable Katie Johnson. It's been remade by the Coen brothers, but you should see the first one first, to know what and why things were adapted.

Bert Kwouk who played Cato Fong was in his last years one of the co-stars on the long running BBC comedy "Last of the Summer Wine".

Fun Fact: Inspector Gadget in his first cartoon episode was originally designed with a mustache, and either from threat of being sued, or worried they might due to the similarity to Inspector Clouseau, they removed his mustache from there on since and had to redraw the original intro. Subsequently, for syndication, every time the first episode is ever aired, a quick dialog takes place where Gadget and Penny discuss how the mustache is a fake and used as a disguise.

@@gutz1981 and the voice of Inspector Gadget was The Late Great Don Adams who played a character similar to Clousseau in that he was also accident prone and also drove his boss nuts. It was a 1960s sitcom called Get Smart.

I consider "The Pink Panther Strikes Again" to best and the funniest in the series.

As much as I adore Peter Sellers in these films, I think Herbert Lom as Dreyfus might be my favorite part of them. 35 years after watching these films for the first time with my mother as a little kid, I still catch myself emulating his twitchy giggle when I'm stressed. XD

The whole hotel room sequence, from beginning to end, IMHO is one of the greatest comedy sequences ever put to film. Practically NO dialogue, and 95% sound effects and sight gags. I've watched this movie ever since I was 3 years old, and almost 50 years later it still cracks me up. Peter Sellers and Herbert Lom (Dreyfuss) are up there with Laurel and Hardy as well as Abbott and Costello. Great choice for a movie reaction!! Love the channel!!

If you review "The Pink Panther Strikes Again" - that goes absolutely nuts! Inspector Dreyfuss isn't done yet! Bert Kwouk does a cameo in Peter Seller's very last film, "The Fiendish Plot of Dr. Fu Manchu" which was re-written because filming wasn't completed. "Being There" is worth the price of popcorn. It's completely different, but was one of Seller's most notable films.

It'd be wonderful if Matthew and Emily could watch Murder By Death...Peter Sellers essentially plays Charlie Chan in that one. It's a great mystery-comedy from Neil Simon with an amazing cast, and pretty much the model for the movie Clue!

Sellers earlier movies with eeling are also first rate His parts were often small but first rate. Kubrick took full advantage in Lolita and then drcstrangelove

Catherine Schell was way underrated and under utilized over the years. She played Maya in the second season of “Space: 1999.” She was also a very bright spot in “Moon Zero Two.”

"Waiter, another Kahlua and ginger ale." Guy Gadbois - utter hero. And "He is Sir Charles Phantom - the notorious Litton." Two of my favorite quotes ever.

Seeing this the first time in the cinema in 1975, I needed an oxygen tent. I just couldn't breath for laughing continuously.

"You raving Oriental idiot! There is a time and a place for everything, Cato! And this is it!" Fun Fact: Most of Lady Litton (Catherine Schell) laughter is genuine. Inspector Jacques Clouseau (Peter Sellers) made her laugh so hard once the camera was rolling, she had a real problem keeping a straight face in many of her scenes with him. This resulted in writer, producer and director Blake Edwards giving up on trying to get her to react like she was supposed to in the script. Also, the fight scene between Clouseau and Cato in the apartment is hilarious. One has to wonder how long Cato was waiting in the refrigerator. The fight is just very slapstick and clumsy that it makes me die of laughter every time I see it, as well as the Japanese restaurant scene between the two.

A couple of people mentioned it, but while Inspector Clouseau is part of the DNA of Inspector Gadget, another major element was Maxwell Smart, the main character of the TV show "Get Smart" created by Buck Henry and Mel Brooks. He was similarly bumbling, although is a secret agent, not a detective, and the show introduces gadgets. In fact, the influence went far enough that the producers of the show cast Don Adams as Gadget, who also played Maxwell Smart. A Shot in the Dark and Return of the Pink Panther are the two best Pink Panther movies, although there are at least a couple of other solid ones. Many have mentioned The Pink Panther Strikes Again, but the one that I'd be most curious to see your reaction to was the one odd movie out, Inspector Clouseau (1968), the one of the original run where Peter Sellers didn't play Clouseau. Instead, Alan Arkin took on the role. Actually, the title of this one is a reference to the *return* of Sellers to the role of Clouseau, as well as writer/director Blake Edwards and composer Henry Mancini, all of whom were busy making The Party and passed on the movie. It's a mixed bag, but it's fascinating nonetheless.

'How much? How high is Up?' is a hell of a line.

The Closeau´s disguises just get "better" and more insane with every film. I just love these films and I hope they get more recognition. I am so, so very glad you are continuing these :)

One of my favorite details about the production of these movies is that Peter Sellars method acted his role... which really makes me wonder what life on the set must have been like for the other actors...

There is also Trail of the Pink Panther, which used cut footage and outtakes to include Peter Sellers after his death.There are also several films with other actors playing Clouseau. Including Curse of the Pink Panther, where due to Clouseau having plastic surgery, he was played by Roger Moore.

You should also check out The Ladykillers (1955) also starring Peter Sellers,Herbert Lom and Alec Guinness. It's one of the best comedies ever made

Burt Kwouk had such a recognizable voice also did the commentary on the English Dub of "The water Margin" series that we got back in the 70s in the UK as well as becoming a main character in the later years of the long running BBC series of "last of the summer wine"

Glad you enjoyed this! I think the Peter Sellers "Panthers" after this get better as they go along. "Pink Panther Strikes Again" has great moments but "Revenge of the Pink Panther" may be the most memorable of them. It was certainly a fitting swan song for Sellers' incarnation of the role of Clouseau.

Herbert Lom absolutely kills in his performance in Revenge. That one Dreyfus scene in that movie is totally worth watching the movie in full. Lom nails each portrayal as Dreyfus even in the lamer non-Clouseau Panther films.

I hope you get to see the rest of the movies in the series. 1) The Pink Panther 2) A Shot in the Dark 3) Inspector Clouseau 4) The Return of The Pink Panther 5) The Pink Panther Strikes Again 6) Revenge of the Pink Panther 7) Trail of the Pink Panther 8) Curse of the Pink Panther and 9) Son of the Pink Panther The series started in 1964 and finished up in 1993 if you don't count the reboot with Steve Martin and its sequel.

"Inspector Clouseau" has Alan Arkin in place of Peter Sellers, and doesn't even have Blake Edwards in the director's chair. "Trail" is much like "Plan 9 From Outer Space," having been built around a little unused footage of the dead star. Herbert Lom still provides some laughs, though, I barely remember "Curse" or "Son" at all.

Another wonderful Peter Sellers movie, and one that few seem to have seen (and none are reacting to), is "The Mouse That Roared". As with Dr. Strangelove, Sellers plays three different roles in the movie. It's lots of fun, I definitely recommend it.

The first Martin one was ok... just ok, but it's definitely a much lower bar. It's clearly a film that doesn't quite get it. The second Martin film was completely unsatisfactory. Maybe, it was better than Masters of Disguise & Mr. Magoo, though.

Totally agree.Especially avoid the the "Inspector Clouseau" movie with Alan Arkin.If ever there was a wrong actor for the role...

The outtakes from this (and the other Panther movies) are very funny. They could barely get through the one-joke scene (you can even see them trying to hold it together in the cut they used) "Do you know the way to the.Palace Hotel?" "Yes."

Emily: "Pippin, are you enjoying the movie ?" Pippin: "Not any more...."

Please consider watching my favorite Peter Sellers movie, the Mouse that Roared. It's not as well known, but it's brilliant.

also, this was when i think henry mancini was really in his prime. his compositions throughout the seventies elevated any piece they were used for. 7:00 -- i mean, he got better.

Christopher Plummer and William Shatner, both being Canadian, were in Repertory together at the Stratford Theatre Festival during the 1950s, in Ontario, Canada. They understudied each other for the same roles in Classic plays. Plummer was great at playing smooth, charming men who had an undercurrent of deadly danger. One such role was in the Elliott Gould-starring thriller, "The SIlent Partner", about a bank-robbing Santa in a Toronto Mall, at Christmastime. Terrific film with some horrific scenes.

In one of the sequels without Sellers (I believe it was "Trail", they used unused footage of the previous movies as Sellers died of a heart-attack 1,5yrs prior) Clouseau has gone missing and is declared dead, and Dreyfuss, now miraculously cured, has been reinstated as Commissionar, and has to give the Eulogy for Clouseau. And in pure Herbert Lom fashion, delivers it hilariously. How terrible the movie is, this scene is worth the price of admission. I think you should watch it for yourselves. It may even float around on YT.

Though we are nothing more than a very small country with just under 6 million inhabitants, but we are so happy to be mentioned in the famous Pink Panther movie 🙂

I had a girlfriend who had a pink panther tattoo on her inner thigh. My second favourite kitty she had. ( oh behave ) Im68 years old. All my jokes are about this good. That’s why I was a Painter not a comedian. Peter Sellers was simply one of the best physical comic actors. I loved the whole series .

About time someone reacted to a great movie franchise. Several sequels that are even funnier. Revenge of the Pink Panther and Pink Panther Strikes Again will keep you in stiches.

Christopher Plummer was on his on adventure, and Peter Sellers following the wife the whole time. 'The Pink Panther Strikes Again' is probably funniest of them all. Or maybe 'Shot in the Dark'

This was so fun! My dad absolutely loved these movies, and it was such a big deal (1970s!) when one would come on; family viewing every time.

Its notable, that these reviewed Films are almost 50 years old. They are way ahead of its time in terms of situation jokes and slapstick. there were a ton of bloopers, as nobody could manage Sellers deep serious and ultimate dry way to present certain scenes. However as Emily said, some scens in the movies have altered not very well. Some jokes are over the top, or some kind of lame, but thats is due to their age. It was different time and we see here real pioneer movies of comedy. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, review the next PP "The Pink Panther Strikes Again" too.

Another Blake Edwards classic is The Great Race. It has many great actors from the 50s and 60s and is a riot from start to finish.

Next film on the list is 'The Pink Panther Strikes Again' (1976) followed by 'Revenge of the Pink Panther' (1978), but after Peter Sellers died in July 1980, director/creator Blake Edwards continued the series with three tribute films to Peter Sellers which included Trail of the Pink Panther (1982) immediately followed by Curse of the Pink Panther (1983) which starred Ted Wass. The last one was Son of the Pink Panther (1993) which starred Roberto Benigni.

The movie that started it all was called the Pink Panther..David Niven was the older..established leading man..hoping this would mark his comeback..Robert Wagner was a young good looking actor with credits under his belt..but Peter Sellers stole the show with his Inspector ..falling..slipping, sliding, tripping..and popping champagne in bed…followed by A Shot in the Dark with Dreyfus..in 1963..Claudia Cardinale as the princess and Capucine..who played John Wayne’s love interest in North to Alaska..1960..with Stewart Granger..whose real name was James Stewart..but couldn’t use it since it had already been registered by SAG for the one we know as Jimmy Stewart..and Capucine died by suicide because of depression..shortly after ..

The next one "The Pink Panther Strikes Again" is my absolute favorite!

As a side note, yes Inspector Gadget was inspired by Inspector Clouseau but, also Maxwell Smart of Get Smart. Don Adams voiced Inspector Gadget and, played Maxwell Smart.

I should point out that, if you guys continue to delve into the Pink Panther saga, keep in mind that continuity is largely a suggestion.

Cluseau was originally a character in a French stage play called “le idiot” Edwards borrowed the character for a small side part in the pink Panther with David Niven as the star. Sellers was so funny that rewards expanded his part and Niven complained about his shrinking role. Edwards then bought the rights to the idiot and turned it into a shot in the dark and the rest us history

As a young 'un, I used to be disappointed and confused by these movies because the cartoon Pink Panther was not a part of the story. He then became a separate character with his own cartoon series.

A minute detail, but still quite impressive for the time: The scene in Lugasch, where Lord Litton is told the 'dead or alive' bit ( 14:25 ) - the camera shot with him fleeing until his drop is either well-planned (as it seems to be a continuous shot) or REALLY well cut at the points where the camera passes the columns.

This is one of my favorite moves of all time.

I'm not really a comedy movies fan. But "Return Of The Pink Panther" is one that I do recommend. That Henry Mancini theme song is exceptionally good. And Peter Sellers as inspector Clouseau combined with Blake Edwards directing is a movie I'll certainly take time to watch. Herbert Lom plays the delightfully deranged Chief Inspector Dreyfus with comedic aplomb.

On the topic of "if I had 10 of him I could destroy the world". There's literally 2 movies that are almost about this: 1)- Dr. Strangelove 2)- The Mouse Who Roared They're both starring Peter Sellers, and they're both about global thermonuclear war. And i think in both he plays multiple roles. (Not 10). The Mouse who Roared is a cute movie, Dr. Strangelove is a beloved classic a very dark satire.

Peter Sellers made deadpan slapstick comedy look effortless.

One of the funniest moments of this film is when Clouseau goes into a house wearing a disguise, in this case a telephone repairman, which is something you do to keep your true identity from being recognized. But he uses as his disguise a mustache, a beard and a hat that makes him look exactly like Vladimir Lenin, the famous former leader of the Soviet Union. That always cracks me up!😂🤣

Don't expect too much continuity between movies. "A Shot in the Dark" made no mention of the end of "The Pink Panther," or Clouseau's status in that one. This one didn't really care about all the people Dreyfus killed in the last. "Strikes Again" is a rare case where it actually *does* continue where the last one ended, but then "Revenge" ignores the end of the last one completely.

Any pink Panther movies with Peter Sellers are absolute classics and will always make you laugh but holy cow do you have something to look forward to in pink Panther strikes again see it go crazy laugh your face off and have a great time
