Such a trip to see my buddy Henry Sarria on the winners list!

Lived in So CA when in the 5th grade (1979) the Pepsi Skateboard Team came and did their thing on our elementary school playground. I lived about 15 min from Knotts Berry Farm too, and for a while they had skateboarding set up in the "old west" area.

anybody remember sneaking in to the skate the giant pipes on the East coast of Florida? I'm sure that OG skater nkmcfartin could tell us all about doing that :)

To give you an idea of how different of a time it was, at 10 my buddy and I would be dropped off at Knotts for the day, pay $9 for unlimited rides, and in the Old West area Knotts had an archery range. A 10 year old could pay 50 cents for 10 arrows and a bow and start firing at the targets. Today people would shoot each other with the arrows, and some wuss kids parents would sue Knotts because their kid couldn't hit the targets as well as some others. The lack of tough love in the modern age just hurts society in general, and especially kid's, because eventually they will be a part of the cruel world, without any experience in how to handle adversity!

Most of these great skaters where from the Florida area ripping it up!

I respect McGill for not quitting skateboarding like Gelfand did when it died.

it's a sport for youth, it's OK if Gelfand stopped.

You're just one of a million nerds who pretend to be skateboarders on KZread and know absolutely nothing about it. How old was Gelfand when he quit skateboarding to race VW's? What did Alan Gelfand, Mike McGill and Rodney Mullen all have in common and what are the helmets they're wearing in this video called? Did you read the part about me saying skateboarding died? Tell me all about, nerd.

Uhmmm yes, I was fortunate enough to skate with both McGill and Gelfand in the late 70s
