Retro Charm CGA Snow Example in 80-column Color Text Mode - THIS IS NORMAL :D

A design flaw in the original IBM PC CGA resulted in 80-column color-textmode software often having "snow" effects (when scrolling and/or using high intensity colors). Software that used the BIOS to access the display would not have this issue (but would run slower waiting for a proper screen refresh), but software that wrote directly to the display typically would have this "snow effect" issue. In this example, MODM (a MOD music player) is being run on an original 4.77MHz IBM PC 5150 at 11khz playback.

You use a really old version, the latest one is faster.

Oh? Sweet! I'll check it out - as long as it's still real mode 8088 code that a 5150 can handle.

@@voidstar1337 Howdy neighbor, do you have a moment to talk about our lord and savior, the NEC V20?

@@big0bad0brad :D I have a V20 but never installed it. I'm ok with keeping my 5150 "bone stock" with its casual 4.77 MHz. But fair point, might be interesting to see what a V20 alone does here. I keep notes about my 5150 setup at voidstar.blog/ibm-pc-5150-notes/
