It should work
I bought polident 3 minute denture cleaner for my retainer instead of actual retainer cleaner tablets, is it still safe for the retainer? Will it damage overtime because its for dentures or its pretty much the same?

no issues with it as long as you rinse it off should be good

Usually just brush it away
It's important that you use a brush to clean it it is highly poisonous.

I did all of this and rinsed it and scrubbed it with a brush and ny tongue started to burn

Not sure what to say. Did you rinse it fully before placing the retainer in your mouth? If so, check with your orthodontist/dentist and see what s/he recommends. Some people are allergic to certain products. Good luck!
