Resurfacing a DVD using car scratch remover!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

We don't just clean video games here! These methods can be used on DVDs, Audio CDs, CD-Roms, any disc that has a protective layer of polycarbonate!!
Wel also don't just use Novus here, there's a whole world of scratch removers and plastic polishes out there that you can use! So here we go! Resurfacing a DVD using car scratch remover!!
The steps might seem similar to the other resurfacing videos, and they are. But I want to make sure people see that any disc can be resurfaced using this method! And remember that the results might not always be obvious at first, so make sure you're trying out the disc after a few polishes! Even a scratches disc can read sometimes!
And as always, let me know in the comments what issues you might have, or what successes you've had! It's way more interesting and fun to help others! So let me know!

    Avi pull your socks up! We're here with a video that apparently was in demand somewhat! Go figure! I'll be sure to make an Audio CD and CD-Rom version of this as well, but it's that same tried and true method! Give it a shot!

    Hi, I would like to ask a question. Could you give me an invite to your discord server? I remember back when you talked about one and how on there is enough info for some countries for alternatives to what you use in your videos. It is pretty sad how some people can do some interesting and pretty useful content but the algorythm still doesn't give you a helping hand, keep this stuff up!

    Sure thing! So its the GAMEYE game collecting app discord. I have a cleaning channel and cleaning articles on there. It also makes it a heck of a lot easier to talk about cleaning things directly. Plus I just really like the app! Link below! discord.gg/GrWaxWg

    These vids are so soothing and therapeutic. Keep up the good work I was so bummed when I ran out of scratched games/DVD's to polish (and that thrill of them suddenly running perfectly) I was really tempted to get into buying 'acceptable' condition games from ebay just so I had something new to sprooce up. You've infected me with the polish bug man! 🤣

    It's very addicting! I regularly run out of scratched non-working discs. There are discs that stores deem "nonworking" (meaning they just don't want to waste the time) and those tend to clean up quick. And don't get me started on how often eBay "nonworking" discs come back to life with a little polish! 😄

    The important things is. It is gonna work? It will have side effects? Like... having more scratches and even make the disc broke.

    Hey Doug first off just want to let you know your videos are fantastic you have helped me save so many cd's that I thought would never work again and now they play perfect. I have used Novus and did not have luck but when I used scratch x it worked great. couple questions I have is what was the name of the polish you use not the scratch x but the second polish you used, another thing is are you going to make a video of using micromesh sanding pads so I can take out deep scratches in some of my old childhood movies that I would love to save. And last but not least if you could contact me to see if there is a way to help me out on removing deep scratches. kind regards thank you for all the help Theo hope to see some more great videos.

    Mirror Glaze is the 2nd polish I used! It's a Meiguars polish, and I'll do an entire series on it soon enough. I am planning to do a micromesh video in the near future. I just have to be very very very careful as to HOW I make that video. I can just forsee people going to town with sand pads and wondering why things got significantly worse. I might actually do a live demo with someone else to show them how to use the pads. It's easy to show how to use them once you know how, but it's tough to explain, ya know? But so yeah, deep scratches require either sanding or Novus 3, but it really depends on the thickness of the disc too! Shoot me a message and I can help you address what you've got and what the next best step is!

    Hi, congratulations for the video, I'm an Italian guy and I'm also passionate about these manual DVD/game restoration jobs... On Amazon, I saw scratch X with a new formula "with wax protection", can I ask you if this product is also good ? or rather the old scratch X ? Before I used the Arexons scratch remover, some games restarted, but the scratches remained... They also recommended the Farecla G3 and the Farecla G 360 black cap, I don't know if you've tried them and can you tell me?.. Some also recommend the use of isopropyl alcohol before cleaning, but I find it a slightly aggressive product for DVDs? Thank you for these excellent videos, a source of inspiration for me, I hope to see new ones soon!

    I use car polish too, but for really deep scratches I use a dremel polishing wheel to great effect !

    So just be careful with anything powered rotation like that. You can actually start to get a wave-shaped pattern on the disc itself. A guy sent me over a few discs he tried to clean with a bench sander (with a polishing wheel) and they all started to ripple!

    I was just wondering if any kind of coated gloves will work. The ones i found at my store all had rougher textures compaired to yours and im worried they might cause more damage. Otherwise what kind do you use?

  • @RestoreAndReplay

    Mine are nitrile work gloves from Dex Fit. But yeah a lot of the ones I've found in stores have a rougher texture too. If you're looking for gloves similar to mine, look for cheaper ones. I'd rather the glove coating break down instead of them hurting the discs, ya know? But also you could absolutely get away with just regular rubber gloves that offer protection too!

  • @RestoreAndReplay

    I'm working on them! Honest!! 😄 A big part of the delay is my requirement, each method shown has to be replicable by others, and must hit a 70% success rate. So sometimes the method needs tweaked, or my explanations need redone, before a video can be released. It slows down the content creation a ton, but also guarantees that people will have greater success at the methods!! But also a lot of times I just get distracted and completely forget about those other videos. Which one are you looking for! I'll make that one next!

    Hey Doug, do you know any good scratch remover which i can easily get here in Germany (without paying a fortune)? I really don't know what to get because most of them seem to have no ingredient list. What do you think about these small round "scratch remover pads" instead of paper towels, are they any good? I saw some people using them (on cars though). Good videos, i like them a lot they are very useful and relaxing at the same time. Thanks!

  • @RestoreAndReplay

    @RestoreAndReplay

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes! Let me find a list I made for someone else in Germany. There are a handful of car scratch removers that are idential to the ones you'd find in the states. As for the scratch remover pads there are two kinds in the US. Ones that are a "wipe away scratches" and ones that are useful for applying scratch remover to. For the "scratch wipers" those are pretty useless (and expensive). but for the pads that you use to apply scratch remover to? Those will absolutely work! They are also pretty expensive at times, but will work fine. A rough rule of thumb is that if it's safe for car clearcoats, you're safe to use it on game discs (usually). Car detailers are a lot pickier about scratches and how to remove them. But I've used paper towels, shop cloths, tshirts, cotton balls, all sorts of things. Give it a test first and see if it causes any scratches and adjust accordingly, add more compound or use less pressure. You'll find something other than paper towels that will work best for you! I suggest starting with cotton balls or cotton pads for starters!

    Paper towel because it's a bad habit of mine.... Try to use a microfiber cloth if you can! Paper towels can add light surface scratches if they are low quality (I really need to stop using them in videos, but it's such an old habit!)

    Ive used that same stuff to buff out scuffs on my car. After a few washes, they are back. I am wondering if it is a temporary fix. I know I won't be washing the dvds, but does it stay over time?

  • @RestoreAndReplay

    @RestoreAndReplay

    Ай бұрын

    So on cars it's a little different since you are dealing with a clear coat and usually a polish/wax. On DVDs and discs you will actually remove the polycarbonate itself (not a top coat) which will take the scratch with it!

    I used Maguires on dvds and plastx i usually get results. Sometimes i think some dvds are defective. They can start working but some portions of the movie are cut out. And ive had a couple that absolutely would not play... I guess defective but ive had alot of them work again pretty good.
