    Watching your videos reminded me to dig out my Plumb Boy Scouts Hand Axe which is actually a hatchet and use the rooster method to bring the blade back to razor sharpness It was a gift from my late father when I joined the Scouts at age 12 I am now 70 and I treasure this tool as a fond memory of my dad Bless you for your teaching ministry to those willing to learn modern applications of ancient skills Bless your little family as well

    Words can't Express how stoked I am for you to get your hands on one of those. I've eyed them online for many years and as you said they're either roached or wayy too expensive. What a lucky kid, a great father and a lucky Kyle! Nice job as usual bud.

    A Nessmuk-style small double bit should have a steep bevel on one end for chopping and a low bevel on the other bit for fine cutting.

    I spent 30 seconds to cut and paste the name of the axe from your description and found one for sale for $275 with a handle and sheath. May not be in amazing condition, but not that rare or as expensive.

    I found 3 all for far less than $400, even if you are going by Canadian dollars.

    @Kyle Noseworthy You said they cost north of $400 and that is Canadian? The axes I found were $275 for mint with a handle and then two other axe heads that cost less than $80 that were in okay to rough condition. I don't think that $400 is even remotely close to their worth. That is about as accurate as Dave's account of his military service. AKA BS......

    Also to say they are rare when there are three of them on eBay and 2 of them for less than $100 is not exactly what I call rare.

    Great work, Kyle. I also like sharpening on a medium grit belt and finish on a felt wheel; gives a wicked edge. Only problem is that my bench grinder is a bit too weak than I'd prefer. Can I ask how powerful the motor on your grinder is? Take care!

  • @kyle_noseworthy

    I believe mine is around 1/3 to 1/2 HP. That's a guess based on other motors I am using

    You know how you can hear when steel is hardened when filing it? It's funny how you can hear how hard, abrasion resistant hickory is. I glued in my wedges too didn't know that you do that.

  • @kyle_noseworthy

    @kyle_noseworthy

    Absolutely! The sound is so distinct between different hardness of wood. Also, I don't always glue in my wedges. It's not usually a necessity, but I did in this case since there is such a shallow wedging, given the size of the head!

    They're expensive for no good reason because they're really not a premium tool. The norlunds may be the most common or most well known, but the Plumbs and old Michigan pattern Collins Saddle cruisers are much better. I suppose the myth regarding the Companies history has people viewing them through rose colored lenses. The whole " learned from the Swedish " thing is BS, and Norlund did not actually manufacture anything. The Axes were made by Mann edge in the declining years for this manufacture. You may have to look for a good one, but is much rather have one of the Marbles saddle cruisers made by Imicasa. Excellent value for $20.

    Got to say man I'm a little disappointed in the title. I enjoy your channel and videos. The title is a tad misleading. I know you clarify this but it's still misleading. It's your channel thou, do as you wish.

    I thought hard about it, and figured I was still on the right side of the line with this title. Dave Canterbury is one of the people that have made this axe so popular, it being his favorite. So, I used that to my advantage with my choice in title. Will it help with views? I sure hope so!
