Restoring a 89 Yr Old Shirley Temple Doll/Mohair Wig Tutorial

In this video I show how I restore a vintage mohair wig on a composition 1934 Shirley Temple doll that is 22" tall. From separating the fibers without any loss of the mohair to setting it in curlers to styling her.

thank you so much , what you think means so much to me. I just found your comment. the last two days have been challenging. I just need more rest. Chantae and I are working on a plan that will allow us to do this but will also give us time to rest. Bless you my friend ❤️

Thank you! I was hoping she would restore well and she did😮. Now she’s in a special place just for her by my bed. I’m very blessed to have her.🥰

Thank you for this. I have a couple dolls, one at least 70 years old, that need their hair restored. I hope I have the patience to do it your way.

Welcome! Just start slowly and do a little at a time. Every new thing we try needs practice. If you get frustrated set it aside and try again later. If I can help, or you need a little encouragement just let me know. Good luck, and have fun!

So you can't clean the Mohair? Could you use dry shampoo on it to clean it?

If wish I could give you a definitive answer. I have tried some of the cleaners others say they the use to clean mohair. Each time I found that the product was to toxic or not a good choice. I’m still open to finding a way to clean mohair just haven’t found one yet. I have thought about dry shampoo but I haven’t looked into what chemicals are used in it. The dolls I have done that belong to me or for some body else all made the decision not to take any more chances that might permanently damage the wigs. Since mohair is animal hair the dirt stays on the top thin layer. Just as it would if it were still on the animal . That top thin layer can get dirty but the vast majority of the wig stays quite clean. At this point that’s the choice we have made . I can’t advise you on The dry shampoo. I wish I could help you more. 🥰
