As @magnit3 said. It's really a necessary evil. The piping is bad, and the wiring is beyond bad. It's definitely a major safety hazard to continue living in the house as is. OK Cole, once again I am going to plead with you to soft demo all that beautiful woodwork and reincorporate it back into the house. That is all old growth wood that is impossible to get these days. If you don't want it (for whatever reason) you may be able to sell it to someone that is doing a restoration on an old property. I'm a bit older than you are, and had a father that was fantastic at home construction, and he taught me to appreciate the "old timers" woodwork which made me very partial to good clean natural wood, stained and varnished to showcase the woods great look. That will also help to break up a big blank wall. I would also suggest that you not open the house to much. It may seem great for right now, but in a few years you will wish you hadn't opened everything wide open. I can only tell you that, you will have to learn it on your own.

Woohoo! I am already hooked on this series, keep it coming! So excited for you and your family!
Buy a 40’ container. They are water and mouse tight. Have it on the farm during renovations then sell it after.
Cole, since you have an issue with faulty electrical in the house, I've got an idea that will save you an ton of money and make installation 10X easier. Have a 400amp panel installed in the basement, then run a single cable to the attic and install a 100amp sub panel there. Same for the 2nd floor, and install two panels for the first floor living areas. Dramatically reduces the labor and with the panel on the floor you're on in the event of a breaker trip, beats running to the basement to reset. By installing the sub panels, the wiring runs are shorter, you don't have long runs of wiring back to the basement and you have ready access to the service panel. You spoke of replacing the radiators in the house, but didn't state what type of heating you intended to use as replacement. IMO, no heating system provides the same warmth as hot water re-circulation heat. Yes, radiators take up space, but are period correct for the house. With a re-circulation system, you can use glycol so corrosion will be almost non existent. The small baseboard radiators work OK, but don't have the mass to stay warm.

@@kevink4914 It is not only the service capacity. It is also the number of circuits. I designed and built a 6000 ft2 house with two 200A service panels and am almost out of circuit spaces after continuing to add on. You decide to add a treadmill...well that is a 20A dedicated service. You decide to add a 240V electric heater, and two slots disappear. You must not have a large house to make that comment. It is always better to have excess capacity and have more control over circuits than to wish you had a couple more breakers available to do something you want. The time to do that is with the house gutted, and it is only a small nominal additional cost.
Wishing you and your family plus Ma & Pa Cornstar all the best plus tons of patience as you do this next big reno stage. If you haven't already, I'd suggest covering up all the things you're storing in the garage. Some tarps or even getting a roll of vapor barrier plastic will keep the dust off.

Couple pieces of advice coming from someone who renovated a 80 year old house currently. Go overboard on electrical. Put outlets everywhere that you can. You can never have to many if your line can handle it. Put you office on a separate breaker than other rooms. Thats the mistake I made. Office is the same breaker as the living room, and running the Wifi, 2 TVs, laptop, desktop PC, anything else on the outlets, and during Christmas all the lights and tree. It can trip the 15amp breaker especially if you start a vacuum in there. I am curranty separating the line to add another breaker but it sucks after drywall was all done. Also go overboard on insulation. You house appears to have very little wind break on multiple sides. It will get cold if you dont seal everything. Spray foam IMO is the way to go. And consider an in floor heating if you keep the boiler, It is a life changer having a warm floor and not walking around on cold hardwood. It drastically cut our heating bill as well. Consider batt insulation in interior walls like bedrooms and such. Helps with the heat but mostly for noise. It helps Final thing if your redoing the entire floor consider adding a new layer of plywood on the floor, put screws everywhere. It gets rid of any creaking or squeaks in the floor when u walk on it
So stoked!!! Subscribed years ago when you started cleaning up the farm and have been waiting for this restoration!! Get after it Cole!!!

You definitely need an architect to help you plan the Floorplan. Someone with more experience than you. That house will cost a fortune to rehabilitate & remodel. Try to avoid open concept with that house as it will be too expensive to heat, & the noise factor & lack of privacy & coziness will ruin family life.

The cost would usually be covered when you’d actually mail the packages. However, no rule or law says you actually have to mail them thru USPS. So… free boxes.
It was at this moment I realized y'all had a baby and became parents. CONGRATULATIONS ❤
im so sad that so much of the original woodwork is a goner 😩
The mansion that your house was when built, was still largely intact, until you attacked the upstairs. Houses can be rewired, replumbed and gently updated for modern living, without having their character and features destroyed. The woodwork in your home, and the pocket doors, hutch etc are NOT replaceable at a box store. EVERY time you point a finger and say this wall is coming out, more of the beauty and character of your house will be destroyed. Your house does not deserve this treatment. Anyone can GUT a home, and end up in a bland box. But most houses are not lucky enough to have woodwork like yours. NO box store sells anything remotely like it. Your plans are NOT TO RESTORE. Your plans are to GUT and end up with what will have as much charm and character as your workshop. I can't watch you destroy this house.

I am sure the original owners who built and loved this glorious historic home are spinning in their graves. It would be soul crushing to have lost such a house to now have it gutted this way to turn into a generic cheap looking McMansion. 😞 Cole should think about the homes built in the 1980's and 1990's that no one wants now because they weren't built as quality as this home was and now no one wants them because they are dated and not in a good way.

It's good thing it's his house and not yours... he can do whatever he wants. Even if it is sad that he's changing everything.

@@HighSierraDawnI’m sure the original owners who built it are happy that he’s doing what he wants with it, instead of living in a glorified museum.

@HighSierraDawn I never said I agreed with what he's doing. All I said was that it was his house he could burn it down or tear it down and it wouldn't affect your life in the slightest. However if you watched any of his videos besides this one you'd know how much this house, this farm and his family mean to him. Hes updating his house how he like so it's safe and worth leaving to his his kids or grandkids.
Good luck Cole, your taking on a huge job, it will all be worth it, can't wait, so excited for you all. Happy remodel!!!🎉🙏🙏👍👍👍👀
Cole I must admit I've been slacking for a while I haven't watched your videos and close to a year I'm impressed that you're married now and that you have a baby and I'd like to congratulate you with that and I can't wait to see that home finished and you guys move back in okie dokie❤❤❤❤
Please tell me you're going to keep all that trim. Please.

In his last video he goes over in detail that yes, he will be keeping a lot of the woodwork and incorporating it in the new build, if you haven't watched that video I suggest giving it a watch, it's very informative :)

I did watch it; as an Interior Decorator I understand all too well how expensive & difficult it is to replace any of that trim. Along with the pocket doors, etc. It breaks my heart every time I see some get destroyed, @@makeuplover6852
How could you destroy that woodwork omg

If you watch his previous video he talked in great detail about preserving a lot of it :)
Great Job ! Moving stuff around is never fun, but you did it and almost all by yourself !!! You did already making a amazing job cleaning around the Farm, so i am sure that the renovation of the house will be a success ! In memory of your late Grandfather this will a blessing project !
Cole needs a video where he says about 500 times, that he is saving the woodwork. Even though he has said it in multiple videos, the comments fill up with people bemoaning him "getting rid" of it lol.

Lol...I think he needs to pin a comment to the top of every comment section from today forward that says " YES !!!! We WILL be saving much of the beautiful woodwork and incorporating it in the new build! Stay tuned to see how we reuse it" :)
Noooo all that beautiful wood.
