Magic Eraser: amzn.to/2jsnSMD
www.1roadgarage.com
In this video I show how I restored my old shiny slick leather steering wheel to just like new again. I used the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to do it and it only took a few minutes.

So many critical comments. I've used Magic Eraser several times and it's been years and the leather is not broken or damaged. I would say 1ROAD you are missing 1 step... you just removed all the UV protection as well so you really should use a leather conditioner after the magic eraser. I typically only use a magic eraser on really really glossy leather. Dish soap can work as well but that is slower and messier. Magic eraser is hands down the quickest and cleanest way I've found to get an oil-free leather wheel but I wouldn't do it every time. Thanks for the video!

I put some Lexoil leather cleaner on a damp micro fiber cloth and scrubbed my leather steering wheel, leather shift knob and leather driving gloves. This was followed up with a rinse wipe from another damp microfiber cloth and finally a buff with a dry microfiber cloth. All of the cloths were dampened with distilled water, to avoid mineral buildup. I used a product called Sapfir Medaille d'Or Nappa as a balm to treat the leather and now all the leather looks and feels like new, soft and supple. I might add some Jojoba oil to the leather over time to maintain the proper amount of oil in the leather to keep it healthy. One of the benefits of using driving gloves is that they keep the steering wheel and shift knob cleaner for longer. When the gloves and steering wheel are clean there is a nice cohesive force between them that allows a lighter touch on the steering wheel and shift knob.

Wouldn't use this technique on an expensive leather, but for a Chev its a good idea. I would still use a leather conditioner after to treat the leather.

For those who think it's the paint that is making the water black, no. That's literally dirt! I have a red leather steering wheel and not a trace of red in my water. Just pure dirt and grime. But do be careful though.

Thank you! Water is not going to remove frikkin leather dye! Cobblers literally use sand paper to fix leather surfaces when needed! This is a brilliant solution. Follow it up with conditioner and it’s perfect! I love this!

The black water is the dye from the leather. A quality leather cleaner with a micro fibre cloth followed by a conditioner gets same results and doesn't damage the surface. Only takes a little bit longer but well worth it.

Use the leatherique treatment, then if that's not enough finish it off with the Swissvax leather cleaner brush. That's the proper way to clean a steering wheel on a 7 series and M3 that I have, it will work on other cars too :)

This trick worked well for me but be warned that too much rubbing with the abrasive pad will damage the leather surface. I'm happy I stopped cleaning mine when I did as I'm really happy with the result. I used slightly warm water, after looking at the results I recon it really depends on the leather surface and quality etc. (Just a little advice, check if the leather that you want to apply this to is synthetic or genuine) Will be interesting to see how this is in 2-3 months time.

Yes, it's not good for the leather He's is literally sanding it , this might be a good method for a while But over time you gonna regret it You can use leather cleaner with a bore hair brush It's gentle on the leather and does not damage it . Chemical guys sell a pack on Amazon Comes with the cleaner conditioner and brush.

DON"T use A MAGIC ERASER on LEATHER IT WILL DAMAGE IT! srs! MAGIC ERASER is very very abrasive.(it's basically sand paper) It will damage both genuine and synthetic leathers.. Personal experience lucky it was a cheap Junk yard CAR . Use a mild soap with clean soft rag then conditioner(for synthetic / genuine leather )/ leather wax after. I think your next video will be I trashed my leather and now have to replace it.

It comes down to discretion. Don't go in full force, use the least amount of pressure to get the job done. Check out "APEX DETAIL" and watch a real old school PRO (Brian) detailer instruct on the uses and ways to use magic eraser. Auto detailers use this with great success... I myself have been detailing since the 90's and I use magic eraser for tons applications.
