Restoration Old Caucasian DAGGER - So Rusty BLADE
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Hello folks! Today I show you the restoration of an ancient dagger of the Caucasian type. This type of Caucasian dagger is from the late 19th century. The condition of the blade was bad, during the process I realized that the object was lying somewhere in a damp place (basement or barn). The handle is horn-shaped and well-preserved. Well, let's start the recovery.
First, I dismantled the old handle parts and rivets. Next, I placed a rust remover on the blade. After a while, I took out the blade, dried it and sanded it to get rid of the stone dirt. I carried out the sanding of the handle manually, I used sandpaper from 80 to ~ 400 grit.
The handle of the dagger - I cleaned it, soaked it with glue from below because there were many cracks and borrowed it. I cleaned the rivets of the dagger, leveled the edges and replaced the pin by soldering it with silver solder. Handle and rivets, riveted under washers - without glue.
I made a new dagger sheath out of wood. I glued them with thin genuine leather and made new fittings. As usual, I conducted a test to show that everything is working and everything is holding up fine. Thank you all for watching!
Sincerely, Alex. Thanks for attention!
Good luck and health to everyone! With best wishes, Alex!

Hello! Thank you you mate ^_^
Эта реставрация должна стоить достаточно дорого. Очень много времени и труда вложено.
Отличная Работа!!! Супер!!! 😊
Fantastic restoration job you did on that Caucasian dagger, which looks more like a sword than a dagger. Anyway, it looks much better and it cuts like a sharp knife. Excellent work.
It looks like the blade was left in the rain a bunch of times. But, once again you got the steel to shine through. I'm amazed and glad you were able to save the original pins. 😄 On a side note, I've recently added 3 new antiques to my collection. None in bad condition. I like to think I'm keeping them safe from becoming like the rusty blades in your video openings. ⚔️👍. Keep rescuing these poor old blades🙏

Fantastic restoration .... that old steel is the best 😊
I've been watching yur vids for a few years now and the amount of hard work u put into these pieces is astonishing and yur only getting better not only the item itself but the leather work and the tin work as well for each case and the best part is u don't take the pitting out even though u sharpen and restrengthen the piece it still looks aged thanks for sharing and keep it real. 😎👍🇨🇦

You are a great master, congratulations 👍🍷
Have you considered giving the inside of the grip scales a wax coating to help reject water and keep the grip end of these blades from rusting? I just love watching you work. With each video I get a new tip on fixing something old (not just weapons) and also get new ideas.

Hello, this is not required because after completion, all my blades are oiled, and they themselves impregnate the sheath from the inside
This dagger looks almost like a roman gladius...u did amazing as well Beebeep 👍

True, the shape of the Caucasian dagger is similar to the shape of the Roman gladius. Because the Roman gladius is the forefather of the Caucasian dagger. Thanks
Merry Christmas, and beep beep! I've watched you restore so many of these daggers and make scabbards for them, but it's sad they get forgotten or thrown away in the first place. Another great restoration!

Well done, as always.
What a beautiful dagger! It may be a little plain with few embellishments, but who needs those on what is at the end of the day a tool? It's simplicity is in itself beauty. I really like that you showed the full process of making a new scabbard for it, and it's a very nice scabbard. That's a detail that most restores don't do or show. Bravo!

Excellent, I was doing the same type of work with a French Hussar sword. Hands sanding is the best option, the blade had grinder marks... and a blue and gold finish, a good restoration requires respect and balance of patina.

Hello! Thank you mate and have a good holidays ^_^
Самое главное не то что просто восстановлен, а то что он опять в строю, а не просто блестящая безделушка. красивая работа.
BeeBeep Alex! Another job well done. I like how you left the pitting and two chips in the blade as they were. Makes for a more realistic 'antique' IMHO. Looks like that was/is quite a formidable weapon. Was that mostly a military design or was it used on the farm as well?
@ScrewsAndTools

Hi, thanks. This is just one of the types. I.e., a huge number of Caucasian daggers were forged with different lengths, widths, shapes, and geometries. With and without fuller . Therefore, there is no specific answer.

Чудова реставрація!
Great job as always.. be beep
I was a little concerned at first when I saw you sanding the blade with the point facing you.... until I saw the point was stuck in a wine bottle cork! Safety first all round, with a bonus of added recycling/ repurposing!
