Restoration of an Extremely Beautiful and Unique Lighter that will surprise you
Ойын-сауық
Hello everybody!🖐 The Restorer is with you again.🔥😎
In this video you will see the restoration of an extremely rare and very beautiful gasoline lighter. This find is very ancient and unique. I have never seen such lighters before. Its shape resembles a bottle. Maybe it's a women's lighter. The lighter is probably more than 100 years old. Made around the 19th century or during the First World War. Such a design of products was often encountered at that time. Most likely, it is handmade. The surface of this lighter was in very poor condition and needed a complete restoration. Traces of use are visible on the surface (dents, mechanical defects, etc.). In the process of restoration, it turned out that it is made of brass or a similar metal alloy. Also on the surface I noticed a mysterious stamp with an inscription. But unfortunately, I could not read the inscription accurately. Perhaps the year of manufacture or the author's signature is written there. I wonder who could be the owner of this artifact? Do you have a guess? I was extremely impressed with the result of the restoration of this ancient find. I did not expect this rare gas lighter to be so beautiful and unique. And what are your impressions of the restoration process and result? Write your thoughts in the comments below the video. I will be very interested to know your opinion.🙂

It's a fake restoration. Brass doesn't oxidize brown, it oxidizes green. The only art here was when he painted on that fake iron oxide rust. You've been scammed.
I love seeing beautiful old things brought back to live. Your process is fascinating!
From the first quarter of the 20th Century or earlier, Ottoman Turkish antique brass petrol lighter called "ewer (ibrik) lighter" because of its form. It is made by Tresor (Austria) for Ottoman market. There should be "crescent and star" as well as Ottoman inscription in the level area in circular form on the front face.

That's a fair comment (i never thought maybe an emblem), but could it be part of a "smoking kit" where the stepped pin engages on to a cigarette or tobacco holder or did it clip on to a rod/stick for lighting high level gas/oil lamps or could have even clipped to a belt (train guard for lighting the train lamps) maybe? (my reasoning being if it was an emblem why the complex form for the lighter body).

Brass doesn’t rust, but it can be corroded, and it gets accretions. Think about brass and even bronze that’s been submerged in seawater! From Wikipedia: “copper reacts with sulfur to form a brown and eventually black surface layer of copper sulfide which, if regularly exposed to slightly acidic water such as urban rainwater, can then oxidize in air to form a patina of green-blue copper carbonate. Depending on how the patina layer was formed, it may protect the underlying brass from further damage.” I think that this is what we were seeing in this restoration. Thoughts, anyone?

Good result but not totally convinced about the "rust" on this and other items that you have worked on. The rust has almost always appeared to have unnatural colours and textures and is removed with relative ease and with little sigs of damage. The flint spring did not appear to have any signs of rust which, being inside, you would expect. I don't know if anything is done to make the restoration more appealing or not but if so then there is no need as the final outcome is great. Just voicing an opinion without wishing to offend

Old items such as these were originally made using copper and brass based materials. Normally, these materials turn green if neglected but will not rust away under normal circumstances. Enough of restoration videos where people add baking soda to acid just for cool reaction. Baking soda is a base and as such it reacts with the acid to form water and salts, it has no effect removing the rust! On the contrary, it neutralize the acid and stop the rust removal reaction.
